Anyone have tips for playing as Little Mac?

He's pretty fun to play as but I'm struggling a little. I think he's too fast and I need to get used to that, and also I think I got completely destroyed by Samus. I assume projectile characters are the worst for Mac lol.

Well, use smash attacks and overwhelm your opponents. As for projectiles, no-brainer but use shield and rolls to get close to your opponent to best of your ability. Remember that you can counter-attack projectiles too; some people like to use a projectile and then immediately dash at you, and so if you counter the projectile and the enemy dashes towards you the counter will hit them.

Him being fast is his strength imo. His combination of speed and power really makes him stand out, along with of course the fact that he sucks in the air and with recovery in turn.

Just how improved are Ike and Captain Falcon from Brawl? Are they more viable in advanced play?

Falcon seems semi-viable. He's not even comparable to Brawl Falcon at least (entirely non-viable, among the worst in the game). I feel like he's way too limited though and will probably end up mid-tier at best. Knee and stomp are basically limited to being KO moves, so you can't throw those hitboxes out there on tech chases. Just too much lag, you will get punished hard. His combo game is basically limited to throws and uair/nair, maybe weak bairs. Up and down tilts are buffed, but still aren't things you want to throw out. Gentleman is kinda nerfed, has way too much knockback beyond low percents so you can't really combo out of it. Rest of his moves still suck like they have since Melee.

I might be imagining it, but I think he's more likely on the large stage than the small one.

I always play the medium one (the one that looks a bit like a pokeball), 25 turns. If you play on the smaller one, there's a big chance of him running into another character and on the bigger stage, it might be difficult to catch up with him.

Metroid appeared once every five games with my setup. Really!

Jesus Christ this game. So I got the 3DS version. Loved it. But got my Wii U yesterday with Smash and... Wow. It's just fantastic. The level of content, options, modes.

My brother had been slightly apathetic towards the 3DS version, but he soon changed his mind when we played a few rounds of the Wii U iteration. I like they give you the opportunity to use your 3DS as a controller too; not all of us care about lag/competitiveness, so it's nice to have that simple option.

Yus! Just got the metroid challenge. Had to grind 6 25-round games with 4 dummy humans before I got it at about round 15 (Ended up getting it on the medium stage). Thanks for the tip!

Probably played about 10 games of this mode total. I once had the chance to get the metroid earlier, but the board interpreted my control stick input to mean a different direction, so I failed... I wasn't happy. But now I have it!

I have never played a Smash game, but just ordered a Wii U and thinking about getting this.

For someone who has never played a smash game, does it play "better" with a GC controller? Or is this just for people who are used to playing it with that controller?

Every answer to this question is bound to be biased. People who prefer GC say it's a better controller. People who don't buy it claim Classic and Pro are just as good. Who is right? It's a matter of preference.

Played with 6 humans and two CPU's last night. My friend threw his Lvl50 Amiibo in too.

It was hectic and fun. I kind of wish there were more stages to choose from for 8-player Smash though. The selection is sparse.

Been doing pretty well in 1v1 with Charizard. Dunno if people aren't use to fighting him often or not, but I love him and seem to be doing pretty decent with him.

I seem to be getting the hang of 1 on 1 for glory. I'm currently sitting at a 50% win ratio, which I am happy with. I dont run from people who beat me (unless its just a total hopeless smack down), and I even back out if I'm getting multiple consecutive wins. Using Peach as a main, even though I've heard she's difficult to use? Iunno, I love throwing turnips and crown smacking too much to change.

I still need to adjust to the lagged air dodge when online. Sooooo many times I get air combo'd just because it has that split second delay online, and my muscle memory tries to dodge at the very right instant.

If the person is still sticking around after losing multiple time in a row, he/she probably wants to keep fighting you to learn and become better, just like you said you don't run from people who beat you :)

I might actually play this today, maybe a little online. I don't think I'm going to stick with Falcon here, I feel like he's so predictable and limited.

Not sure who I want to try though. Need to give ZSS some time, but she feels really different in Smash 4. Maybe WFT and Yoshi. Dunno. I guess most of the cast is an option at this point.

And I haven't played online on Wii U, but on 3DS I just stuck with whoever I was playing whether I was winning or losing. Usually they would leave on their own, I'd improve against people who were initially beating me easily and once I beat them 1-2 times they would leave. And people who I didn't lose to within the first few matches usually quit on me.

Yeah I get that, its only after like 5 or 6 lol. I need as much learning as they do haha. I guess Ill try to stick around longer, I just don't want to be padding my stats.

If you switch to the Omega list, there are a few more options than on the default list.

Me too. And Bowser and Ganondorf. Maybe I'm good with heavies.

No thanks, man :) That's exactly how I did it. (Having an Excitebike trophy during the game will help, as it will help give you enough steps to catch up.) I hope more people will be able to do it this way; there's really no reason to waste a hammer on this challenge.

Edit: Tips for All-Star without healing? I made it to the last fight with Ike and then got combo'd all over the place. -_-

Try doing the first three rounds without healing at all (maybe only using a Maxim Tomato if necessary). If you manage that, you will always have a heart container for the last fight, i.e. you will have won.

My amiibos are way too powerful now. Luigi's smash does over 30% uncharged and his tilts and throws near 20%. Villager also won't go down. The pushing lloid is crazy broken, don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

Does anyone else on GAF play a really good Peach? Or know of any videos to show me how to up my Peach game? Currently I have zero combo ability, though I can annoy the shit out of people with turnips and floating.

Is there any good Rosalina online right now? As a Ness/Jigglypuff main I'm having quite a hard time against her.

My NNID is Frozenstorm if you want to play.

How do I unlock custom moves for my characters? I haven't sunk that much time into the game yet, but when I go change moves for any character, I don't have any available.

It's a bit of a tedious grind because there's like 370 of them, but if you play with the characters you want moves for you're more likely to get them. Classic Mode on high intensities gives alot of them, Crazy Orders gives a whole pile once you get pretty high, Smash Tour even, etc. - you get more with higher difficulty.

Crazy Hands Orders is great to unlock custom moves, try to play a few turns and see how it goes

I think I have an "above average" Peach, it's not a very "comboable" character, but you can cause some trouble if you master some of her gimmicks.

-Down + Jump (Hold) lets you hoover at ground level... Peach's F-Air is lethal if you connect it properly. You can catch people off-guard with this. And with some practice, you can connect it to a forward throw for some serious damage.
-ALWAYS throw vegetables at people trying to recover. Some of them can cause cheap deaths, and if you are brave, you can predict if people will avoid it, so you follow the vegetable and punish people when they avoid it.
-If you know that your opponent is gonna grab to the edge. Before he gets there, throw a vertical upwards vegetal. If he tries to roll to dodge it, you receive him with a front smash.
-Neutral B (Toad) is one of the best counters in the game. Don't underestimate it. Toad absorbs the damage the princess would receive and knock it back. So, if Ganondorf is charging a Warlock Punch, get in front of him and let Toad do his job.
-Down Smash is great to punish rolls and cause a very decent amount of damage
-The Up B (Parasol) is great to recover and avoid getting meteor'd. It can cancel basically anything if you time it right before they try to hit you.

that's all I can think of right now.

Haha, I think you missed the "without healing" part. ;-)

Oh shit, it seems I did.

I did that one with Ike, as his great reach and KO potential help with this enormously. The secret is to know the levels (and how to react to them; always stay in the upper center of the F-Zero stage, for instance) and the AI's patterns. After a while you start to see safe ways of punishing the AI, even when they're in groups. When they're standing on a platform and you're diagonally underneath them, they will ALWAYS drop through that platform in such a way that you can get an up smash in, even if you're already charging it.

It's a tough challenge to do, but if you're good with a heavy and learn the levels well, you can do it without too much problem.

Also: I would simply restart the whole thing my damage was above 50% after two rounds.

Smash didn't move wii u sales

Source?

Apperantly in this game to be a good peach you have to abuse her float ability more then previous games. I got bodied at a local smash event by one yesterday....me being a old Peach Main in old games, I did not like his dirty playstyle though. But yeah learn to float and use it for offense.

Edit: beaten. Eventually ill go back to using peach....I just have WAAAAAAY too many characters to use this time.

I've been ruling out Peach as one of the weakest characters, but damn, now I'm curious to try that out. People here sure have cool strats for every damn character.

oh noes, smash didn't sell good, now it feels less fun and people will make fun of me in the internet :(

my tastes in videogames need to be validated :(

I've been getting better at the ground float, but I still have issues getting people to whiff their attacks to crown slap them. I'm also a barrage of turnips. I pretty much throw them every chance I get, even if it wont hit, just to bug them. Except wrinkle face. That's always one I'm gonna throw to hit.
Didnt know Toad was so good -- most of the time I use him its to throw off someone trying to hit me on recovery, though the little upwards float from it makes it miss most of the time. That, and getting used to that bit of delay to time it.

I mean how else are you gonna play Peach but to annoy people? At least she's not Wario haha.

I've heard that she's a character where you have to abuse her in a very specific way to win. One of those hard to master, high reward characters. I just like pissing people off with turnips.
