Super Smash Bros. for Wii U |OT| True Potential of Smash Bros.

I have never played a Smash game, but just ordered a Wii U and thinking about getting this.

For someone who has never played a smash game, does it play "better" with a GC controller? Or is this just for people who are used to playing it with that controller?
As someone who never played a prior Smash game, and has spent time with four different control methods (game pad, remote and nunchuk, pro controller, GameCube), I found the GameCube controller to be the worst. I didn't like the triggers at all, and the buttons didn't feel right either. The analog stick was harder to use correctly.

I use the pro controller, but could easily use game pad if needed.

The Gamecube controller is for people who have played Smash for a decade using that controller.

No one else.

Didnt play Melee? Dont get the Cube controller.

I might just have learned this game is for the hardcore lol. Girlfriend gave up after 2 matches.

And frankly, I don't know what I'm doing either.

The peach player I talked about legit never touched the ground though, it looked like I was fighting the defected no leg peach amiibo. It messed my WFT ground game hard.

God damn it Crazy Orders.

My own ally almost killed me with an exploding box. I died off the top but the enemy died before I did. Still took a ton of unnecessary damage.

Wish you could use custom controls in this mode, can't see anywhere to set it. Also wish you could turn off items because god I get screwed by them so much.

Was totally in sync with my CPU ally there. Upsmash the enemy into the air and he jumped in with dat 9 for the KO.

For what it's worth, I saw it a second time last night! :-O

Edit: Tips for All-Star without healing? I made it to the last fight with Ike and then got combo'd all over the place. -_-

Do it with Cap Falcon so you can finish both at same time.

For Cap Falcon, I just damage them with down B (since they can't block it most of time and it can kill them too) and I also use side smash, down smash up smash, bair, and up air to get rid of them.

Side B is pretty useful depend on situations.

You can set your controls the same way as always. You can use custom characters & equipment as well as one of the most given suggestions for the 20 round challenge is to abuse Home-Run Bat equipment.

That's laughable. I bought the Wii U for this game... I just did it in advance, as I knew I would be getting it eventually. Also the GCN adaptor has been sold out... That's money in Nintendo's pocket, too.

Same. Friends convinced me to buy it early for MK8, and there was a bundle so figured why not.

In regards to the adapter specifically, I think that's far more an indication that they simply didn't produce many of them rather than an indication that Nintendo stands to make serious bank on the GC adapter. Assuming they even bother at all to react to the demand for the product, I don't think it has great legs. Unless they plan support for the controller outside of Smash, they are in fact right that it's a product with niche appeal. They've simply overestimated just how niche it is.

Do we know why they removed the stars on the Vs screen when you win a match against an opponent? They replaced them with badges, but I find it harder to tell the number of wins/losses now. Of course it doesn't really matter, but I'm curious.

Having the worst luck. My last two crazy order's passes made a total of 5 turns... after I got to 12 on the one before those. I guess I doomed myself to bad luck after doing so well for a while.

Then I go 5 straight turns without taking damage. Okay. Too bad the rewards it is giving me are garbage. :(

I love playing Captain Falcon, it's the most satisfying thing in the entire game to hit a sweet-spotted Knee or a Falcon Punch, but I'm still pretty terrible with him.

Does anyone know of any good SSB4 Falcon videos I can watch to help myself learn and get better?

I'm also semi-interested in Meta Knight but I have a really hard time with his range. I have to be literally in someones grill to hit them with anything other than dash attacks/dash grabs. Any recommendations here?

Anyone have any good recommendations on sites or resources for strategy/improvement?

I would also watch tournaments on twitch (vgbootcamp has weekly smash 4 tourneys) to see some strats in action.

I completely reworked my peach/Megaman/Ike based on what I saw in tournament play.

VGBC had an event last night, and I think it was Pink Fresh playing Peach. Pretty sure someone was. Try to look through the archives at twitch.tv/vgbootcamp

Edit: Actually nevermind, check out this thread: http://smashboards.com/threads/peach-video-thread.369598/

Exactly what I was going to post. Pink Fresh's Peach is really good, however, he does a lot of things that don't translate to Smash 4 though (which makes sense, the metagame is still very young)

The most annoying feeling in FG1v1:

Losing to someone you KNOW you can beat (bad character matchup etc) and then instead of going for a second match, they change they name to something like "GitGud" or "lolnoob" or "Wrrrekt" and then they drop the game.

Happened to me last night when I lost to a Samus spammer. Got my Zelda ready only to get trolled and abandoned :(

my Mega Man and his metal blades laugh at your spikeys.

Yeah a good megaman is always hard to deal with, his air game is legit. Bair and fair are almost always safe, and Upair push box kills at low percentages. Not quite sure what the best counter-pick is to him but for now i'm sticking with Peach safety.

wow

that's ice cold

I think the Gamecube controller is good, but the shoulder buttons are awful.
The Wii U Pro Controller has great shoulder buttons, but the analog stick is not across from the buttons, which is uncomfortable. Plus it's wireless, which I think is irritating.

It's really about picking the lesser of two evils. If the 3DS had a better analog stick, I would actually said it has the best control interface.

hahaha, I also get mad when someone beats me and I know I can beat him/her.

but I have never experienced the name changing. I'll do it someday, hahaha.
