Super Smash Bros. for Wii U |OT| True Potential of Smash Bros.

I'm having a problem in this game that I don't know how to fix. I've been playing this series since Smash 64 pretty devotedly and playing Smash 4, I find myself in situations that I really shouldn't be so often. It's like when I want to be aggressive, I always find myself in poor situations that I have to swim against the current to get out of and when I want to play patient and focus on fundamentals, I feel like I'm always just one hair out of range and it hurts everything from my ability to capitalize on reads or punish to just establishing stage presence.

I'm kinda hating how much I feel like I'm flailing around and things that I should get for free are slipping out of reach. What's more I'm still not used to a lot of the subtle changes a lot of the cast (vets mostly) got and that leads to some pretty silly miscalculations on my end (seriously why is Peach such a beast and why does Shulk manage to be the most easily understood character that consistently kicks my ass).

What should I be focusing on in general playing this game guys?

Hey -- Just got the game. I tried playing online but the lag made it basically unplayable for 2 out of 3 matches.

Can anything be done or should I just wait for next generation to play online?

So I decided to play smash 3ds for glory 1v1 in a long time and it seems as though everyone already abandon the game lol. When I did find someone to fight, they were so bad they made the CPU look hard in comparison as they kept rolling and I kept hitting them anyway with my dash attack or dash grab them where I proceed to juggle them until death percentages.

Say how many trophies are there in the 3DS version? I have like 672 trophies I think. Want to collect them all at least before abandoning it. Just managed to finally complete all challenges with the help of some hammers.

- Fix your router
- upgrade your connection
- get a lan adapter
- move your Wii U closer to the router

Netcode is fine if yiu have a decent connection.

Fuck the Fitness Junkie event. As if using WFT wasn't enough, they put you against 2 Giant Warios. And I hate Wario in Smash, can't predict any of his movements and they're so fast and annoying. They even ask 45 seconds in Hard for the reward!

God damn it. I managed to do it but it was painful. And I didn't even do it with walk-off abusing.

If sonic was deleted from this game, It would make it even better.

I've only completed about 54 challenges so far, so the Dr. Mario one should help a lot. I also haven't been buying trophies since I seem to acquire enough new ones through other modes.

I agree with your critiques of the stage roster. It just feels like a lot of content is duplicated (Mario Circuit vs Mario Circuit, Smashville vs Town and City, etc.) and that feels pretty meh. I love almost all of the new stages--which is precisely why I wish there were more of them. :/

And I don't mean to say I would prefer a smaller soundtrack: I'm all for more content! It just feels sad that they could have implemented new remixes of new music rather than, say, throw in another version of Ashley's Song or the LoZ theme. Again, I'm nitpicking--there's a ton of really incredible stuff in the game! (The Mega Man and Animal Crossing series definitely won in terms of brilliant new arrangements.) They used a different sound team than they have for previous entries, though, so I wonder if that has something to do with the lack of variety in some of the other franchises.

Crazy Orders are so frustrating because it feels like random elements end up screwing me over all the time: a bomb spawning right above me, CPU destroying a Skyworld platform so I can't recover, etc.

Just a heads-up about the trophies: I'm pretty sure there are some trophies you can ONLY buy, mainly each character's "Alt" trophy that you get in the 3DS version by beating All-Star mode with them. In Smash Wii U, you get their Final Smash trophy instead, so you have to buy their alt trophy... but it only becomes available in the shop in the first place after you beat Classic and/or All-Star with that character.

There also seem to be some trophies that are easier to buy than get randomly; I have enough trophies now (550 or so) that I'm starting to see the most expensive tier of trophies become available for purchase (stage trophies, for example, for 2500G or so), but I've never seen any of these drop randomly.

Yeah, I'm in love with all the new Mega Man arrangements. :) I do wish there was some more original Mega Man music as unlockable CDs, though.

Oh, and here's a great tip for Crazy Orders that I used to complete the "Finish Crazy Orders after 20 or more turns with Mario" trophy. There's equipment that lets you start each match with a Home-Run Bat and also swing it more quickly. Use it. Then just spam side smashes and profit... heavily. The end battle with Crazy Hand can still be difficult depending on when you challenge him and how much damage you have going in, but getting through all the matches before Crazy Hand is stupidly easy using this method (though you still do get unlucky sometimes).

I used my hammers on:
- Clear All-Star on Hard with every character
- Clear Classic on 7.0 with every character
- Clear Classic on 9.0 with Marth within 12 minutes

I still have two left, and the only challenges left that I can use hammers on are the collect all special moves and custom headgear ones. But since I want all of those anyway, I'm thinking about just leaving those two hammers there :)
Thanks! And congrats on nailing that Metroid challenge! I still haven't started seriously attempting it yet...

Aw, the Sonic salt is real. I like that he's been buffed for this game; he sorely needed it.

Mega Man is a great counter to Sonic, though. His regular Mega Buster shots (lemons) interrupt every single one of Sonic's specials. It's glorious. My best friend mains Sonic, and the way he rages when I just pea-shoot away all of his various spin dash attacks never gets old.
