Driveclub weather update out NOW. laawwwwwd.gif

I remember when people were saying this game wouldn't look as good as this:
ExcellentAnguishedBluegill.gif

They were saying it was a bullshot and supersampled.

What now? ;)

I don't.

People have been fapping over the IQ since day 1 just about.

What does this game do that a game like GT6 doesn't do?

I sold this game a few week's ago I got annoyed with a track I could not beat. Luckily my misses has got my son a driveclub ps4 bundle for xmas I will have to give it a try with this new update, probably wont change my mind but will be nice seeing this update.

Hey Viveks, do you know something about how the replay mode will be? ... will it be more realistic, like gran turismo, or more action, like a top gear show? ... or both?

Any chance of a replay editor?

This game is so beautiful that the absent of replays is a sin.

No clue, to be honest.

I'm confused, help! :)

The PS store website says the full version is UNAVAILABLE at the moment, but I can purchase the £35 PS PLUS edition upgrade.

Can I buy this and play NOW, before the actual PL Plus edition is available?

I'm a PS Plus subscriber.

Is this just a cheaper way for me to get it, or would I still need to buy the full version?

Thanks!

That is the full version. You should be fine :)

Great song, video would have been better with no hud/overlays though

Yeah, I realized that afterwards. >.< Gonna' pull em' for any future videos. Plus, the engine noise seems more audible on YouTube compared to my PS4 audio set-up, so I'll probably tone that down as well.

Racist Youtube blocked your video in my country. :(

Ugh... I was considering using a different tune as well (The Choice from TLoU OST). May make an alternate version...

Did anyone else notice that when the bright lightening strikes that it isn't also seen in the rear view mirror (which stays dark)? At least from what I can tell.
I can't see your video but wouldn't be astonished, since the rear view mirror doesn't reflect a bunch of things or effects going on in the game.
For example, they won't reflect smoke, dust clouds, electrical wires, spectators...

When the game comes through the letterbox and I put it in my PS4 for the first time, what do you guys recommend I do first in order to truly marvel at the sheer visual splendour this game has to offer? I want to get the best first impression. I'm thinking one of those snowy mountainous tracks with a spot of rain, but I dunno, maybe there's better?

As soon as you can, take whatever your favorite unlocked car is, ditch the tour and start a single event, time trial, and take it to any point-to-point track (the first two options in each environment) and go to options to set HUD Opacity and Ghost Opacity to 0%. Set whatever event settings you want, though I'd recommend early mornings and some cloud cover and time compression at x30 or x60. The point-to-point tracks are the star of the show here, and luckily its very easy to restart them once you've reach the checkered flag. Once the race is over select 'restart' and its literally instant and you'll be back at the beginning of the course, ready to go.

If you find yourself just wanting to drive and drive without stopping, and seeing more transitions, do the same setup as before but choose an open road circuit (the track options after point-to-point but before the standard race circuits). Set time compression at x15 to x30 and just drive though the full 24 hour cycle. Gorgeous stuff and my personal favorite way to play.

Whatever you do, don't do the first tour track.

I recommend:

Pick time trial (so you don't have to deal with AI right away)

Pick any Norway track (I suggest one of the Point-to-point tracks).

Set the time for 05:00
Time speed x 60
Weather: Stormy
Precipitation: Dynamic

And stealing a tip from the post above:

Set HUD Opacity and Ghost Opacity to 0%

Then just pick the car you want, and go fast :)

And just to be sure, the game's tour events are great, but the game starts with relatively flat and visually unimpressive track circuits before you get the point-to-point and open road circuits. Its also better to get a feel for the handling and views when you aren't expected to go toe-to-toe vs AI.

One last bit of advice: Acceleration and braking are amplified in this game, so brake later into corners. Doing this also means the AI won't slam into your rear quite so much. Slow-in-fast-out still works as a principle, but even when braking early you want to brake further into the turn than you would in other games.

Enjoy.

Damn, that's a lot of specifics. Thanks guys, I'll be sure to follow these steps word for word first time I reach the main menu. Looking forward to it!

You're welcome! After rethinking it, starting at 05:00 (nighttime at Norway) might be a bit tough if it's your first time playing, especially if there's heavy rain/snow. I just suggested it because I love the sunrise.

If you want to start in the day and watch the sunset, You can try starting at 17:00 and leave the rest of the settings as I mentioned.

Is it possible for GT7 to look as good or even better than this? GT7 will likely target 60fps and I just can't see it looking as good as this. Besides Mario Kart, I haven't played a racer in a while and these visuals are just making me feel...........happy.

Hard to tell really. The environments probably won't look as good. As nice as GT5 and GT6 looked, they were always behind the curve on environmental impressiveness. Cars may end up looking even better because Polyphony has always done a great job with that aspect. Lighting could end up looking as good, but who knows. Same with weather.

Will definitely be exciting to see.

I wouldn't expect GT7 to look as good or better, but I do expect it will have a lot more cars and tracks to make up for it.

With the added smoothness it'll pack more wow factor with less effects. But then it's a sim racer and I prefer arcade ones :/

I've been playing Driveclub for the last couple of hours (just picked it up today). If Driveclub were 60 FPS I think Gran Turismo would have a hard time touching it.

It's really easy for me to appreciate the lack of car tuning/upgrades, since that makes it all about your driving skill.

I wish I could get a hang of Drifting though..

Just picked this wonderful game. Thanks guys for an awesome recommendation. Add me as I'm looking for some buddies to play and compete against in driveclub. Noone on my friends list has this game.

This is still first gen software. GT7 will blow this away, by a large margin. People say that because of this generation of consoles being closer to PC that reality does not exist anymore and there will be no graphical improvements in the lifetime of the PS4. But these people are very uneducated. Back in the day absolutely everything was a Motorola 68000 chip, consoles, Amiga, Atari, whatever it was it had that inside. Programers know it like the back of their hand. But even with such a well known architecture there were massive leaps in graphical quality from first gen software to last gen. There is a massive difference between having experience working on a general architecture platform and having experience with this very specific set in stone GPU+CPU+RAM specification.

By the end of this generation, as with all generations, the games we have now will look like crap in comparison. And if PD can run their incredible lighting and weather effects (which do rival DCs) on a PS3 then you know they will bring something special on PS4. Especially with all that RAM for textures and models meaning they can really pump up the environment detail.

That said, you just know PD will port assets from GT6 so... Expect half absolutely incredible graphics and half disappointment.

Looks so much better without the mini waterfall of droplets on the screen in the final version.

Agreed. Please EVO, let us turn them off. I have actually had to become something I hate, a person who plays from chase cam :( It is the only way I can see in the rain and be able to compete with players who can actually see the track.
