Two well paced and dramatic episodes in a row? Maybe they'll stick the landing after all.

Somehow identifying the airship Baton Jr. was on was lol, as was the second in command of the entire United Earth Kingdom army having no escort of any kind, but I guess the plot must move on by any means no matter how stupid, dammit.

I really hate that they rather stick with the joke than giving Zhu Li something. The same with Wu's speech. Stop trying to make everything a joke! It don't works.

It isn't necessarily a joke for the sake of "OH LOL JOKES". Varric wasn't expecting her to be there and his persona/automatic response to everything is make a joke about it. He only gets serious once he has time to analyze the situation, like when he was depressed about Zhu Li and talking to himself when him and Bolin were captured/escaping. I think it's pretty obvious that at one point in the finale he'll have a serious heart to heart with her and it'll result in a kiss or something. Or at least in a confirmation of feelings. Heck once she gave him the "ultimatum" he got serious again.

Also I find it hilarious that the humming birds were never used and probably got all destroyed in that attack. Can the show really introduce new tech and then destroy it before we see it?

Kuvira doesnt truly care about Bataar jr. she was only using him, she was making time and only got interested when she learned Korra and the others were with him.
She appreciated him, but not much more than her other mooks.

While this is more likely, there still was little need to say she was going to marry him if the plan was never to go with the 'aristocracy bloodline' angle. She could have lead him on about being interested and about maybe considering dating him, not to mention praising his intellect and importance and he still would have come due to all of that neglect. Saying she was going to marry him implies that at one point they actually dated and have probably kissed. That's a bit too much manipulation, and if so it makes Kuvira a complete ass, and not in a good way.

That would be nice if they can put it up early.

Also both episodes will be up at the same time.
That would be sweet because it'd be up at 11 PM thursday for me, and then I can spend the next 2 hours or so before heading to sleep discussing the stuff with you guys.

That episode was straight up piff. Got the fucking iron giant in this too, let's go.

Notto dissu shito agen.

Though if one of the minor characters died in that aftermath I wouldn't be surprised. I would argue one of the twins is a safe bet for dying, similar to another fantasy story that had charming twin characters and one of them died. Anything more than that is unlikely considering that this has been used in TV countless of times before and nobody tends to die from it.

"you guys, they showed Tenzin getting beat up at the end, no way in hell is he still alive"

I liked that episode, but if no one died there, then I'ma be real disappointed.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OutrunTheFireball

Though all are related to Non-Fatal Explosions, there are also two more directly related tropes. One is the Rocket Jump: an extremely hard-ass character may exploit the power of the blast as it propels them through the air to reach places they wouldn't normally have been able to. The second is combining this with Out of the Inferno: for a second it seems that the characters won't make it as the flames from the explosion reach and engulf them...Then a few second later they come out bursting through the flames, slightly parched but unharmed.

They already did the "don't show the aftermath until the finale" with Tenzin getting beat-up, they want to build tension but they won't do shit about it. There is a very slight chance that one of the expendable minor characters died but again it's more likely they all survived and some are more injured than others.

If you're going to be disappointed with this show for following basic TV formulas that's another story entirely.

No one died. They're not going to spend the requisite time for mourning and feels on a character dying, as it would serve no narrative purpose.

Unless it was someone important and Korra goes into the avatar state due to rage or something, which if so, kill me now.

I don't mean to be a dick but you all know one of twins is going to be the only casualty because they afford to spare one right?

Gonna lead right into 'upped stakes' and Batar's 'redemption'

Like we'll be able to tell.

Two of my best friends are twins so it's easy to tell the difference between the two for them.

But for these two guys? Where they've maybe had a total of 20 minutes screen time and usually it's battling? Yeah. I can't tell them apart. Plus they're drawn so unless they spent the time making it clear that one wears red and the other wears blue lol

So close Varrick so close.

Who knows, we can say he was an expendable pawn though, considering he was her fiance, second in command, only scientist left, most devoted follower, etc.
She didnt doubt much before blowing him up with a giant laser, then she tries to make a sad face for a few seconds.
Kuvira at least could have tried to rescue him, i dont know how, but if she cared, she would, maybe he is not even dead and will have revenge :P

Wow giant meka looked so out of place. Episode was meh overall. I like korra but this show has been my biggest disappointment simce green lantern

Iroh was wasted, huh?

I honestly thought when he showed up in the first season that he was going to be a series regular. Would have been quite okay with that, or at least were he a bit more frequent than showing up for like 8 minutes per season.

Well we know Batar didn't die because he is now in the "Kuvira is fucking crazy" party.

He can't be dead because he's going to tell Korra et al the mech's only weakness.

The Nick player is so terrible... Shitty ads, can't even rewind because it's lagging so much.

I use Kissanime and it's always been great for me.

I think she does love him, but in the moment she figured that killing Korra and gang was worth sacrificing Batar.

That's the reason I say that "at one point" she could have genuinely loved him before the power got through her head and she went hungry for more. At this point I have little doubt that all she cares about is more power.

Why does anime CGI always look so terribly out of place? In any case, Giant Mech wow. I seriously cant believe it. Does bending have anything to do with the Avatar universe anymore?

Spirit weapon can punch holes through mountains but can't obliterate one measly building. I don't really blame Kuveira for taking the shot, it's only plot armour that stops her from getting the septakill. I'm still amazed that they are actually still acting as if Wu can be king. I mean c'mon, at least have SOME awareness.

The CIA needs to teach Korra about some "enhanced interrogation" techniques. That was the weakest shit I've ever seen. A ten year old wouldn't fold under that pressure.

The lack of military air presence is very surprising especially since they were so effective in S1. A few airships here and there but no fighters or even military biplanes. An obvious strategy would be to bomb her army from the air and try to force her mech into wasting shots. Of course this relies on you actually having good defence measures. Sidn't they already agree with the fire nation episodes ago the beef up their defences? So now they have an extra week were they know an attack in imminent and they still don't have any forward scouts, spies or forward defence force. Even if they expected an attack by rail there was no guarantee they wouldn't do a two pronged attack or even have the weapon on a tank like the Ba Sing Se drill in ATLA.

Overall I didn't think it was a terrible episode especially for a kids show with limited budget, but it could have been much better with fleshed out character motivations. I don't know what motivates Kuveira, which at the very least I could say about the other one-note villains in the series.

this is the same Korra that went

"Let me talk to Kuvira, I can change her mind damn skippy"

Kuvira: no korra because reasons

"You make good points, let me talk to Su I can change her mind damn skippy"

Just finished the EP! Thoughts:

- GIANT MECH!!! Looked bad, but hey, maybe somehow we'll have Korra piledrive that thing.
- Varrick is the real MVP this season, but come on cuz, you don't pass on Zhu Li...
- Budget cuts are showing right now... Kai can't talk, and a lot of shots of evacuations and what not
- Kuvira still hasn't won me, idk... But if someone actually dies from that explosion, she'll get some points on my book
- I think it's RIP Mako #teamdead

The Nick player is so terrible... Shitty ads, can't even rewind because it's lagging so much.
Seriously. So many damn ads played while I watched it.

I watched this week and last week's episodes and they were damn good. This has definitely been my favorite season thus far. That mech was an interesting idea that caught me by surprise. I'm just sad Toph didn't go King Bumi (forgive me if I butchered the spelling) and wreck Kuvira's army. And she hinted that Kataara could probably go beast mode as well.

I can't wait until Kuvira is defeated although she was a pretty interesting villain.

I'm hoping we get some casualties from that blast. Would be a shame if they all got out of it alive.

Part of me also hopes that someone in Team Avatar bites it too. If not in that explosion, then at a later point in the finale. I thought Book 3's costly victory was a great way to end the season, and it'd be good to show Korra rise above personal trauma to fulfil her role as Avatar.

Basically, I want Mako to die.

I think she genuinely loved him even as she was about to blow him to smithereens. She just loved power more, and when the two were on the precipice she made her choice.

I'm not going to question why Kuvira wants Republic City so badly at this point because the answer will always be awful.

But how can it possibly be worth the amount of resources she's putting into taking it?

Yeah, Korra was going to torture Bataar while his mother and 2 brothers were there, watching. Amazing.

And the Mecha did kill people, those 2 watchers were obliterated by the beam.

It's the center of culture, technology, and commerce in the entire world for one.

It's basically constantinople of the Avatar world.

Guys this isn't Akame Ga Kill, where main characters die brutally and on the whim of the writer. Everyone will probably be fine or some gets hurt and out of the fight. I doubt anyone is going to die.

Because it's the basically the capital of the Avatar world, and is on Earth Kingdom land, which has been an unpopular decision among the higher-ups at the earth kingdom ever since it was created. The amount of resources put into it is because Kuvira is aware that she's taking on the entire rest of the world, essentially. When you do something like that you need a trump card. In real life, it was nukes. In their world, it's lasers attached to giant robots.

Nah, she'll freeze up and then have a flashback of her younger self being chased through Zaofu by a giant spirit, then it got defeated by Su piloting a giant mech.

So the shonen "sees life before they go out/defeated" flashback then.

I'm just going to assume you've been trolling this thread the entire time.

Yea i've pretty much placed him in joke character status in regards the season 2 finale and Kuvira stuff

.

Anime and CGI just does not mix well. I think Pixar was working on a way to make them seamless with Paperman, but even that has a way to go to looking like 2d animation. There was this one game, however, that looks like 2d animation until a special move is used, but I do not remember the name.

I would not have liked it if one person would have been able to stop their army.

ahahaha
maybe we couldve not had that clip show if we didnt need crappy cgi for something like this
book 4 continues to impress me in all the wrong ways
