Fabula Nova Crystallis official site opens

I can't find anything wrong with Lightning's design. The belts are, at the very least, functional. They aren't just hanging off of her for fun.
If by functional, you mean excessive, then yeah.

But I actually don't mind the design, it's part of the charm (although I would like a grittier take on a FF one day).

I feel sorry for the poor characters though, getting dressed must take a hell of a long time, and that big heavy coat can't be easy to move around in.

that's not that high of a standard to hold them too honestly =p

Fabula Nova Crystallis is a horrible name and makes me want to punch my brain.

This game, however, is pretty and makes me want to shit rainbows.

FNC is just the umbrella term used to refer to the (at the moment) 3 FFXIII games
i like it :P

Listened to the music. The piano stuff is good. I like it!

Battle music has a very interesting intro, but then it morphs into a totally generic bombastic and rather forgettable melody. I certainly hope the people praising this one are not the same who bashed Sakimoto's score for FFXII into oblivion.

so now that the site is up hopefully Square will start dumping some of the newer trailers (i.e. JUMP Festa '08) on there.

With the website up in early Jan., the demo out in March, hopefully media updates inbetween and after... I wonder if Square-Enix is marching toward a June-July release for Japan? Doubtful... but we can hope. :D

I know it's just a term for the series, but I cringe at some of these pretentious names full of made-up words that JRPGs tend to perpetuate. Still, at least they didn't tag "HD Remix" onto the end of the name.

LOL...

I really like the update Lightning design. Thanks Durante for the rips. I'm having some trouble getting to the meat of the site, it doesn't seem to load completely. Oh well, can't wait for these games I'm just beyond ecstatic! Now we just need a release TIMEFRAME, hell, I'm not even asking for a set date!!

I think Fabula Nova Crystallis is in Latin, though.

so if your scale puts things at 'pretentious' on one end and 'simple' on the other, what would be an example of 'in-between'?

Between you and Kuroyamakaskwdjwbedmq up there throwing around the word 'pretentious', I'm curious what you would title the collection that wouldn't be pretentious...?

I'd call the series Androgyny Palooza.

It's simple and tells you exactly what's on the tin.

And Latin is totally made-up on the spot.

simply calling the series the XIII saga or something of the like would've been fine with me. hell, I would've been fine with Latin if it actually rolled of the tongue.

The title is definitely Latin...but is definitely pretentious. Either way I think it's something that will grow on you..
I don't think it's faux intellectualism so much as your typical Japanese weird appropriation of Western culture.

Technically, it isn't even Latin. The Latin for "crystal" is "crystallum" (plural "crystalli"). These are just some random words stringed together to sound like Latin.

In my experience with books, movies, anime and games I've come to realize that when a few people call something "pretentious" it's usually a good indication I'll enjoy it. I've come to think of it as the opposite of "unaspiring". So rock on with the Faux-Latin!

That sounds about right. The name is with good intentions at least. I personally don't mind it but can see how it would be classified as such.

Didn't realize that Crystallum was the proper Latin term. Wonder what the deal is with making it up? If they wanted it to sound like Latin why didn't they just use the proper words? Perhaps it didn't flow together as well.

Either way I want more trailers SE!

FFXIII needs a latin name because it is a big deal. It's like when science dudes discover a new insect, you gotta bring out the latin.

I don’t like the design of this character.

She looks like one of those typical ditzy female characters that show up in most Japanese RPG’s.

except, evidently, she's suppose to be a very important character. So stick that in the bank and deposit it, pancho!

the title is very obviously latin...and fittingly flashy for ff

Well fabula nova are correct, crystallis has been altered...although that doesn't really matter all that much, because it sounds far better than crystallum...

I just don't want another Rikku in anything ever again.

I could show you far worse. You don't want to see how deep the rabbit hole goes. She is really not that bad at all in her design (and hopefully she can be peppy without being gratingly annoying).

i agree, but not for that reason, as i don't get those vibes. i just don't like her outfit and, while i really like her hair (color & style), i don't think it fits with the face.

It should be Fabula Nova Crystalli then, if they were going for the 100% route with Latin. This is just a variant of Engrish -remember we're dealing with a country where people actually wear shirts saying I HAVE A CAT.

Not to put it against them, though. I've seen Spanish mangled in many more ways than I thought possible in the USA. It has not been pretty.

Rikku the type of hot, freaky chick that would bang you after a few margaritas and a stray shot of tequila... and she'd never feel guilty about it because, well, she's a free-spirit pyromaniac.

There ain't nothing wrong with that, pal. Nothing at all.

Shows what the fuck you know. Nouns in Latin decline, crystallum is neuter, and crystallis is the genitive form.

That is the most depressing thing I've read so far this month, and I've been reading some heavy stuff in and out of class :(

Rikku, the type of where I constantly roll with my eyes until I don't know where is up and where is down.
