How do you get the Palutena's Guidance convos to activate? I tried every combination I could think of with Pit, Palutena, and Mario (character to be guidance'd) on Palutena's Temple but I couldn't get it to activate. Same with the starfox convos.

You have to tap the down taunt EXTREMELY fast.

Were you doing Omega Form? Doesn't work there for some reason.

TWILT if you are still there I am up for some games, will host room and whenever you're ready

welp, kind of laggy, I guess someone is using netflix over here :c

That was a really good game. Finally getting the hang of techs over WiFi. Don't wanna get too used to it though. Fraid that will mess up my timing IRL.

I think he's actually 15 on the tier list now, according to a wiki I was reading.

I was more hoping to see a rundown on all of his animations. I don't remember what that stuff looked like outside of Lucarioball.

nah he's currently 21st...out of 26

poor Kirby, went from 2nd best to worst in one game

One more Romance! I'm gonna wait to start till my girlfriend gets out of the restroom. I want her to see your DK/Bowser haha. Then I'mma bail. :)

Alright, last game for me jnWake!

Fun matches! I can barely recall how we began but it was Rosalina vs Yoshi right? Sorry for the egg spamming but that's the only way I could take out your Luma without risking myself too much!

There was a battle where I panicked when you did a Warlock Punch and rolled aimlessly to death. It was quite funny.

I also laughed when the MK8 stage killed your Luigi. You had that match in the bag haha. Then the Falcon spikes took care of Pit! I love that Utilt does that spike on the ledge! I'm pretty bad with Falcon though, can barely land a grab!

Gonna play Romance now. GGs man. I like your ROB. :) You'll get better the more you play! My tip is to mix up your options as you're falling. Sometimes airdodge, sometimes nair/bair, sometimes up-b and space yourself away.

GGs.

Thanks for the tip. I just became really discouraged at some point and didn't really try to evade you as much as I could have because I knew it wouldn't make a difference. :P

Hey Romance, any tips for me?

One thing I've noticed is that some people are just really good at turning on a dime and grabbing, something I just can't seem to do. Feel really slow next to good players.

Really GGs Romance! You teach me how to space and play footsies, so I really value our games. Let's play again in the future.

Hahaha yeah man and thanks for taunting! Makes me less stressed! Of course your Diddy skill prepares me for the future. Thought for sure I had you on that last one though! later!

Pivot grabbing: I couldn't do it to save my life because my tourney winning brother can't teach for crap. Oricwindser helped me figure it out. During a dash press GRAB then turn in the opposite direction. Not at the same time. It makes your range longer. Pressing a button and turning at the same time can result in a pivot tilt or a pivot smash. I can do it but not good enough to include it into my natural game. What I like to do is attempt it on people that I may out play for the most part so I can actually think about it. And I constantly do it while in the waiting room.

ROB is actually one of my worst match ups. That blasted spinning top can be used in such awful ways. Figure out spacing and you will get me really good. Some of his moves have clear start up and so you have to watch out for that. I went to the ROB boards on smash boards for help against him and they told me his weakness and thats what helped me in my fight against you.

GGs guys! Both times I had to bow out for family stuff. For both Boogie and Wake, I did win the majority of the matches but there were a few times were you both caught me in a string of movements where you predicted me very well. It was only after I caught on to that I was able to predict you. Otherwise very good games!

Your DK was pretty damn good. His Bair (I think?) is very good for combos. I could barely keep up with ROB.

Bowser was good too. I had no idea DownB could do those combos and that really threw me off. I think I fared a lot better in the Yoshi vs Bowser matches than in the DK vs ROB ones haha.

Ouch those Dairs.
You have to be willing to use Flare Blitz!

Edit: TWILT, are you wired?
But the extra damage from that :(

And I am, but I think Kei's PST while I'm EST (and well, in Canada), and I've usually experience at least a little bit of lag with some west coasters, so hmm...

I only have 10 challenges left, no hammers used yet. Yeehaw

Clear Classic at intensity 9.0 without losing a single life.
Clear Solo Classic in 12 minutes on intensity 9.0 with Marth.
Collect all custom moves.
Collect all Mii headgear.
Clear All-Star on Hard with all characters.
Destroy a total of 50,000 or more blocks in Trophy Rush.
Collect over 300,000G
Clear Crazy Orders after 20 or more turns while playing as Mario.
Clear Classic at intensity 9.0 without any customizations.
Clear Classic at intensity 7.0 or higher with all characters.

I plan on hammering "Clear All-Star on Hard with all characters" and "Clear Classic at intensity 7.0 or higher with all characters" once I've completed a few more challenges.

One thing I did after swallowing my pride was asking my blasted littler brother why he kept beating me so much. He uses Dedede which is already a nightmare scenario for DK and Bowser users but he pointed out some things that I always did that got me punished. In that one instance I changed my play style slightly and now or matches are more even despite him still winning most of them lol.

So for you ROB guys when I could predict the dreidel I would Power shield you and go for the free grab. Also I remember catching you guys on a lot of rolls. If I dash after you roll towards me if you must rather than away.

It's tradition - maybe this game really is Melee 2.0 after all.

HOLY SHIT WHY HAVE I NEVER HEARD THIS I LOVE IT SO MUCH

The relative obscurity of arrangements like that is one of the main reasons why I really wanted to see them make it in - this may be a crude metric, but currently a single video of the Wii U version of Environmental Noises has received more attention than every upload of the Nintendo Land Norfair theme combined. If it had been included, it might have received the recognition it deserved...

There's so much locked on-disc content in this game. Nintendo is probably the most shameless publisher in the industry right now.

GOD DAMN!

Young Link looks adorable!

Alright GAF, I asked if people were interested in this before, and I saw ~10 people say they were. To me, that's enough for us to try and see if this works. I have never done something like this before, so bear with me as I try to figure out proper organization, and know that I welcome suggestions.

All skill levels are welcome!

EXPECTATIONS:
-You will play a FT5 once per week with someone on the ranbat list, minimum.
-You will be respectful toward others, and understand that this is intended for fun.
-1v1.
-No items/customs.
-2 stock with an 8-minute timer.
-No stages with hazards.
-Good sportsmanship.

Fair warning: the Google Form asks for your e-mail. The only reason I am asking for this information is to give you a Google Spreadsheet invite for recording match data. I am a public school teacher with access to thousands of addresses, phone numbers, and e-mails, and I previously managed a 70,000 person legislative district with all the personal information I could ever want at the tip of my fingers, including SSNs. If you are too paranoid to trust me, I understand and respect that, but this is the only option that ensures only tournament players can edit results without placing heavy record-keeping burdens on me.

Let me know if you think I forgot anything, or if I screwed up the Google Form.

I'm not sure what can and can't be linked to around here. But have we been talking about this?

Sakurai says there will be no more balance patches.

--In the future, do you plan on adjusting or balancing the game further through a patch?

Sakurai: We don't have any such plans, but at the very least we will be working on a few things connected to the online play experience, bit by bit.

If we were to do something like tweak characters' customized special moves, then there'd be no end to it. But with that said, if there are any glaring issues, we may address them.

I'm pretty pleased with how well this game has turned out balance wise. It's nice seeing a tournament with Ness and Donkey Kong with the later beating out Mewtwo Kings Diddy Kong. While Diddy may very well be top tier I don't think he is impossible tier like Metaknight was he doesn't break the game. Not yet anyway. That said I wish some of his followups weren't darn near guaranteed at any percent.

It doesn't say they won't ever balance, actually. Just no major changes forthcoming.

I mentioned how Bowsercide being bugged and the whole Meta Knight's range of Bowser Klaw is kinda meh. But I can still make the characters work.

It's hard to avoid using rolling haha. This is the first Smash game where I'm trying to play at an actually decent level, so I was pretty used to roll spam from casual play.

I'm trying to do it less though!

What do people recommend for someone feeling completely overwhelmed by the chaos of this game? I want to understand and appreciate the mechanics and really start to get into it, but every match - against the CPU or other players - feels almost completely out of my control. The screen is just chaos.

I want to love.

Start by playing 1v1's without items.

RANBATS:
Ranbats are basically defined as a local "league" of players. It's kind of like a tournament, but more casual and relaxed in its setting. Everyone plays on a set weekly basis, and players accumulate points to "win" the season. There are no rewards here; it's just a way to keep folks playing and meeting new people, and it adds a level of discussion for the community.

EXPECTATIONS:
-You will play a FT5 (first to 5 wins is declared the winner of the set) once per week with someone on the ranbat list, minimum (up for discussion).
-You will be respectful toward others, and understand that this is intended for fun - be a good sport.
-1v1.
-No items/customs.
-2 stock with an 8-minute timer (up for discussion if folks want another standard).
-No stages with hazards.
-Round Robin format (everyone plays everyone once - the player with the most wins at the end wins the season).
