Favorite Anime Adaptations of Video Games

Still awesome.

Nothing else I've seen has come anywhere near matching this--including the other SF anime work, unfortunately.

Persona 4 The Animation was a good adaptation for the fans while simultaneously being a great standalone anime.

I'm not entirely sure about how I feel about the Persona 3 movies yet though. While the main character in P4A was essentially based on the funnier answers you could give in P4, the movie's main character is just an asshole.

I also think the Tales of the Abyss anime was pretty good, but while they adapted the main plot well the lack of skits etc. took away from the impact of the characters. I also had the whole nostalgia thing going on, so I don't know if it was good as a standalone show. My friend who doesn't play many RPGs liked it at the very least.

Oh, and Sengoku Basara was great but I have never played the games so I don't know how it compares.

Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni (When They Cry) started as PS2 and PC games in Japan. The anime even takes one of the game's mechanics (which I can't spoil) and uses it as part of the plot.

The anime was so grossly oversimplified in both narrative and in its own animation QUALITY.

Although the Umineko adaption was even worse.

I'll toss in another vote for Sengoku Basara. Steins;Gate too if we're counting VNs.

Probably Halo Legends, particularly the episode "Prototype" where some dude goes all Gundam on the Covenant.

VC was alright. Sonic X was muck. Senran Kagura had an anime but haven't gotten round to watching that yet.

Yeah, I haven't watched too many game based anime.

Street Fighter 2 Victory

Take Street Fighter and just fucking make it 90's to the extreme. The show was basically a karate anime buddy cop flick and it was AWESOME

This is an all time classic but i HATE how Ken and Ryu have super muscles and shit and they still are only 17 years old.

By the by, what's English dub situation for P4G and P3 animes? Happening, not happening, already happened and my googlefu sucks? Slightly offtopic but figured you guys would know.

Do visual novels count? I guess Fate....cause ufotable...just...ufotable.

Then Street Fighter 2, Alpha, Valkyria Chronicles, FF7 Last Order....

Last Order: Final Fantasy VII

Best depiction of Sephiroth ever, Cloud rage face and Tifa swinging Sephiroth's sword.

They should just remake the story using this anime studio.

Steins:Gate

Well... it's a "Visual Novel".
But it's on Xbox 360 and PC so I don't care.

This is the correct answer. I couldn't agree more.

Goodness, just, yes. I love Steins;Gate.

In regards to Danganronpa, I found the anime fun and enjoyable, but I wouldn't consider it an amazing adaption by any means.

As i said up above, i agree. I liked how they showed Tifa much more beautiful than ever before in that style <3 I wish they redid FF7 in anime like that

Still awesome.

I have to go with this. I don't know what else I'd even go with. Kirby?

I'm actually struggling to think of another really good anime based on a game (although I haven't yet seen the Bayonetta movie and it sounds fun). I keep thinking of awful series like Viewtiful Joe or Legend of the Mystical Ninja or Bomberman fucking Jetters, holy damn that show was bad.

-Street Fighter II the Animated Movie
-Street Fighter Alpha is okay
-Street Fighter II V
-All 3 Fatal Fury Movies
-Pokemon season 1
-Pokemon Origins
-Pokemon Movie 1
-Pokemon Latios and Latias

I liked the Tower of Druaga far more than I ever thought I would. Same goes for Bahamut as has been mentioned. Really, why is it so entertaining? I thought for sure it would be pure junk, but it's actually worth watching (although it's stupid).

I want to say Space Dandy because it feels like a videogame, but really I want an adaptation in the other direction. Travel to different planets, each one has a different vibe/art-style and theme, stupid crazy shit happens all the time, play hard-boiled minigames in your spare time.

Also if VN's count, most recently Fate/Zero and UBW, which I love so far.

Super Robot Wars OG: The Inspector for me, pure Obari awesomeness all over my favourite mecha, really made some of the best scenes amazing. I desperately hope they do more

.hack was pretty good too if it even counts

Man I hated that anime..

How much of it did you watch? I thought the Ragnarok anime was really well done myself
the first episodes are fluffy cute pointlessness but later in the series once they get promoted shit gets crazy, dark and fucked up. It really worked well considering how you're killing porings and bunnies early on in the game but fighting demons and undead later

Opinions lol. Its my personal favorite due to loving the game and the anime does a decent job at adapting it. Yea i'm bias!

The VC anime did a TERRIBLE job adapting it, they fucked up the story about 8 different ways lol People only like it for Alicia :p

Advent Children if it counts. I love it to death. I prefer the original cut, though.

If not, then definitely the Street Fighter II: V series, or Fatal Fury: Legend of the Hungry Wolf.
