What's the absolute worst game of 2014 you played?

Well, the time's almost upon us to vote for GAF's game of the year, so let's take a look at the opposite side of the coin.

I'd have to give it to Rambo: The Video Game. I've posted about this game before, but it's still highly relevant, so what the hell.

I only bought it because it was literally $6 new, and I must say, the reviews were right on the money. You'd think Rambo would be a perfect fit for a stealth shooter, sneaking around the environment, stabbing guys, setting traps, shooting everything when the going gets tough, etc., but nope. It is a light gun game without the light gun. It's on rails and there's an onscreen cursor you move with the analog stick to shoot things. The controls utterly killed this game. They're never as responsive as they need to be to work as a rail shooter. The appeal of light gun games is that killing enemies is a function of response time, so it's fun to test how quickly you can react; Rambo doesn't have that, because you need to crane the reticule over to every bloody target before you can shoot them. I can honestly say I did not have one shred of fun playing Rambo, and felt it was misconceived on a fundamental level; like, I can't imagine this being a good game even if it didn't look like a PS3 launch game, and even if it wasn't an hour and a half long, and even if it didn't just lazily stitch together a few scenes from the movies to make up the whole game.

So GAF, what's the worst game you played this year? Give a rationale and don't just post a box, please.

My personal worst 2014 game starts with a D and ends with a Y.

I won't beat a dead horse, but seriously. My biggest gaming regret this year.

I actually didn't play bad games intentionally this year, so for high profile games, I'd have to give it to either Watch Dogs or Destiny

Infamous Second Son - I really didn't like it at all. Another mediocre Sucker Punch open world game.

Without a doubt one of the PS+ PS4 games, not sure which one though because there were so many I found ridiculously bad.

Probably Need for Speed Rivals. The game could have been great but everytime I play it and get pulled over or crash out and have to load back to the garage and then load back out to the map and it takes forever it reminds me why I hate it, and that's the reason! Also that and it would randomly disconnect you and reset you while in the middle of doing some online race.

Don't Starve. God damn what a waste of 3 hours I put into that piece of shit.

I don't think it's the worst game I played, but yeah I certainly found it quite the waste of time. I shouldn't have to work to eke enjoyment out of a game.

Watch Dogs and/or Far Cry 4. Didn't get more than a couple of hours into either of them before getting ridiculously bored and giving up

The Evil Within.

I'm sorry, but it just wasn't a good game. It had a great atmosphere (Decent level design, great use of lighting, shadows, etc) but terribly clunky controls, a horrible framerate, and un-interesting characters. I could not care less what happened to anyone. It's a shame, because I was really looking forward to a good survival horror game. I loved RE4, but just couldn't get into this.

ArcheAge

My enjoyment of that game collapsed unbelievably quickly, especially when the true nature of the F2P systems reared their ugly heads after the initial period. Also, the game has been absolutely plagued with bugs, exploits, issues, and all of them seemingly ingored by XL/TRION.

Uhm... Did not play much bad games, this year. Worst ones are Enemy Front and Basement Crawl for sure.

First one has some of the worst IA routines I've seen in years.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 PS4

Souless, bland, boring. As cheap a cash in as there ever could be, looks like it also be the last "big" movie tie in game too as publishers move to just releasing mobile and social games to tie in with movie franchise releases.

Runners up:

Lords of Shadow 2.
Poorly executed sequel. Too much emphasis on nonsensical stealth sections and Merurcy Steam again showing they don't have a clue about boss battles and just make them into overlong chip-away fest. Cutting down a tree would be more fun.
Yaiba
A real toilet stain of a game on a beloved franchise. An unlikeable protagonist fights endless waves of the same enemies for a dozen levels, while the big boss encounters are QTE's

Stick it to the man.

I just didn't get on with at all. Humour fell flat, gameplay felt boring, objectives were dull, controls felt terrible. It was just horrible. A complete and utter waste of two hours.

While it's by no means a bad game, Shadow of Mordor is the worst I played this year. So, a pretty good year then.

Most disappointing definitely goes to Destiny though. Competitive MP was fun, but the almost complete lack of a story and the fact that the level design never opened up the way I'd hoped were limiting factors that I couldn't look past after the initial fun of playing co-op with friends wore thin.

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
The Evil Within

Absolute trash

Not much more to add to this. Seeing as that was the worst game I played it was a good year

Actually that's not true, I have the Sonic Boom demo on my 3DS right now

Legend of Korra, but the only other 2014 games I played were Bayonetta 2, DKC:TF, and Smash Bros. Korra feels like a PS2 game, but the combat is fun.

Different strokes then. I haven't played Don't Starve but in general I find that my best gaming experience are the ones where I had to work a little.
