What's the absolute worst game of 2014 you played?

The Evil Within.

I'm sorry, but it just wasn't a good game. It had a great atmosphere (Decent level design, great use of lighting, shadows, etc) but terribly clunky controls, a horrible framerate, and un-interesting characters. I could not care less what happened to anyone. It's a shame, because I was really looking forward to a good survival horror game. I loved RE4, but just couldn't get into this.

Yup, this. What a shitty game it turned out to be :/.

I've played over 500 hours of DMC2 and consider the game good.

I couldn't make it past the 4th chapter. It was a huge disappointment.

You guys are nuts.

THIEF, Watch_Dogs, and Destiny

3 games with bugs, terrible plotlines, shitty voice acting, boring and broken gameplay, long load times, bad map designs, just terrible all around.

I was abit more selective in my purchases this year. Gotta say Wolfenstein as the most disappointing for sure. I was so hyped for it. Midway through the game you have to run around your home base collecting samples and then you get stuck in a sewer. What kind of mission is that?

It also hurts reading all the Mercenary Kings hate. Great graphics, takes patience to learn and I loved the weapon building.

Dark Souls 2.

Demon's Souls & Dark Souls 1 were tied for my Best Game of Last Gen.

EDIT:

It must be noted that I trusted my gut, and did not in fact pick up Destiny.

Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. A lot of people love it obviously and I was pretty excited to try it from all the positive comments on GAF.
The theme/gameplay didn't really appeal to me though.

Yes, that's the clear low-point of the entire game. It's over pretty quickly, but it's a clear break in the otherwise outstanding pacing that doesn't sit well with the rest of the game.

This. Some of the responses here are trying just a bit too hard to be "controversial". "Popular game is the worst I've played all year!". Ok.

What answers do you expect when it's about games that people actually played? Most people buy the most popular games, so answer to the threads title question is most likely a popular game.

Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.
Destiny hands down. I haven't been this much disappointed in any game ever as far as I can think of.

So much rip off, so much lie before the release. lol Bungie seriously.

As far as AAAs go: Destiny and Watch Dogs were disappointing, but they aren't "bad" games by any stretch of the imagination. If we're talking actually BAD:

Road Not Taken: Takes several bad game design ideas and manages to mash them together into a ball of shit that is somehow worse than the sum of it's parts. Avoid at all costs.

Mercenary Kings: "Oh cool, it's sorta like Contra. 5 mins later: "Welp, this is awful."

Proteus: Want to play Myst with poorly designed puzzles and a terrible art style? Here ya go.

Yoshi's New Island. I bought it to get a free digital copy Pokémon X, but I wish I would have bought Mario Kart 7 digitally instead...I didn't enjoy much of my time with it because it was basically Yoshi's Island with crappier music, poor use of vehicles, and conflicting art styles.

Wasn't / Isn't there a pilots only mode?

I need to pick the game up so I can try Horde mode.

I'd feel bad saying Watch Dogs or Thief..lol.

I paid $4.50 for Thief and got Watch Dogs for free. I'd probably be pissed if I paid $60 for them.

Mode wasn't available when I played it.

Probably Yoshi's New Island. Too boring, I managed to get over 2/3rds but then I had to stop

I don't know though. There could be something worse I'm forgetting right now

You guys are nuts.

Way to take my post completely out of context!

That was the longest one, but IIRC the game makes you do fetch quests in the hideout several times. It's funny, I could almost take your post earlier about Mordor word for word and it would perfectly sum up my feelings about Wolfenstein (obviously I would have to change 'Orc' for 'Nazi')

Evil Within was my biggest disappointment. I hated the letterbox framing so much I had to sell it.

I didn't even notice the letterbox until I read about it here. I guess the GAF hype cycle has gone from everyone hyping Evil Within to everyone hating it. People probably had too high expectation caused by GAF hype.

GAF Rule #390395 - Never believe a game's hyperbolic hype on GAF.

Evil Within is pretty good game that has flaws and is not for everyone.

Watch_Dogs.

Only game I've rage quit in years. Only game I've rage deleted ever.

Solid potential and a pretty well realized open world (except for free roam and co-op where its just a big empty place), but what a craptacular campaign, especially the ending missions.

Destiny was actually a lot of fun. I had a great time with it, but the difference between me and my buddies is I jumped off of that bandwagon because I knew where that road was going to lead. If I kept with it I'd probably end up listing it here too.

I've played two this year that are equal amounts of awful. Rambo: The Videogame and The Letter. Both were only played because I wanted to see if they were as bad as everyone said. They lived up to it. Because I knew going in they weren't going to be good, I can't say I was disappointed by my purchases. At least The Letter was only 50 cents and it was the first thing I deleted when I needed to make room for the Mario Kart 8 DLC.

I've played a couple other games I didn't care for this year (Demon King Box, Yumi's Odd Odyssey), but they aren't as bad as the two mentioned above.

Destiny.

I'm usually pretty careful but I got suckered big time by the budget, hype, graphics, etc.

I had been planning to wait for Bloodborne to get my PS4 but I saw a good deal and I thought I'd jump in with Destiny. Can not believe how little there is to do and how its stretched soooooo thin, it's a joke.

Fortunately Mordor is a legitimately fun game that made me feel better about my PS4 purchase. Interesting to see some people say its the worst game they played.

Yeah, it's a solid 8/10. Not quite as good as I was expecting it to be, but not much worse.

The Evil Within is the Resident Evil 6 of this year, you are just on the right side for once. :3

The only part of The Evil Within that reminded me of Resident Evil 6 was Chapter 12 and it's the worst chapter of the entire game by a country mile.

Not true at all. I was even underhyped for it and I was STILL disappointed as fuck. Only game I nstantly deleted and fuck that letterbox bullshit (which was even worse on my 16:10 screen) plus the forced 30 fps lock on an engine that is known for pumping out 60 fps games. Good thing I bought the game half off on Reddit for PC (but it was still a huge waste of $30).

So now that they fixed those problems, what's your excuse?

Shadow of Mordor. Incredibly repetitive and got boring, eventhough I put like 20+ hours into it. Mainly because I don't like to drop on games... but this was real bad IMO.

You hit a brick wall or you just had enough?

For what it's worth, it gets much better. I'm on chapter seven and it's pretty damn great.

I think the game remains amazing throughout (other than a few moments of the closing chapters, and whatever the fuck that \chapter 12 was).

Chapter 3 is my favorite though. The level design during that chapter is fucking amazing and underrated as hell.

Yeah, three was fantastic. Loved chapter five too.

Wasn't a fan of chapter six though, that's been the weakest chapter so far.
