Reposting for the sad folks stuck on a computer at work all day:

Don't be shy! It's all just for fun. :-)

Alright GAF, I asked if people were interested in this before, and I saw ~10 people say they were. To me, that's enough for us to try and see if this works. I have never done something like this before, so bear with me as I try to figure out proper organization, and know that I welcome suggestions.

All skill levels are welcome!

RANBATS:
Ranbats are basically defined as a local "league" of players. It's kind of like a tournament, but more casual and relaxed in its setting. Everyone plays on a set weekly basis, and players accumulate points to "win" the season. There are no rewards here; it's just a way to keep folks playing and meeting new people, and it adds a level of discussion for the community.

EXPECTATIONS:
-You will play a FT5 (first to 5 wins is declared the winner of the set) once per week with someone on the ranbat list, minimum (up for discussion).
-You will be respectful toward others, and understand that this is intended for fun - be a good sport.
-1v1.
-No items/customs.
-2 stock with an 8-minute timer (up for discussion if folks want another standard).
-No stages with hazards.
-Round Robin format (everyone plays everyone once - the player with the most wins at the end wins the season).

Fair warning: the Google Form asks for your e-mail. The only reason I am asking for this information is to give you a Google Spreadsheet invite for recording match data. I am a public school teacher with access to thousands of addresses, phone numbers, and e-mails, and I previously managed a 70,000 person legislative district with all the personal information I could ever want at the tip of my fingers, including SSNs. If you are too paranoid to trust me, I understand and respect that, but this is the only option that ensures only tournament players can edit results without placing heavy record-keeping burdens on me.

Let me know if you think I forgot anything, or if I screwed up the Google Form.

Without further ado, quote this post to reveal the Google Form link below:
I'm in :)

Would also like to see a doubles tournament someday

After we've all gotten to know each other more, we could try a 2v2 tournament some day.

I wonder if the upcoming tourney mode would allow you to do a team setup online. A pipe dream, probably.

Codeblue I sent you a friend request, I assumed your NNID was the same as well. You can host.

Being in Argentina means any matches against me have at least some input lag, which is unfortunate but still way better than how Brawl online worked for me. Should I sign up for playing in spite of that?
Everyone has "some" input lag. If you are wired, and have had good experiences against people on GAF, give it a shot. Worst-case scenario, it turns out to not be so great, and everyone moves on.

Signed up for the ranbats. Been meaning to take part in the community since I got the game. And if anyone wants to go ahead and add me for Smash to play later, feel free to do so. I'm on sporadically.

NNID: Sundull

Ahh that was my up b mistake :p

Ggs man, those were great, I got to play against some characters I have no practice playing against, that was awesome

I have to go to bed in like a half hour so I can get up tomorrow for work so sorry I quit on you.

Your ROB and Mac game is pretty good. That ROB is annoying as hell though.

But I got a couple Dropkicks and a Shield break in so I'm happy.

I pretty much have to main Little Mac now. No Flinch Smash Attacks is complete bullshit.

Bowser and Ganondorf still going to be my main mains.

Haha thanks! Yeah all your characters gave me some trouble at first, and even afterwards if I mess up once I'm done with. I'm not used to playing against heavy-weight. They are extremely strong. And again, the people you played with are characters I don't play against often, so it's nice getting to see them getting some love and figuring out how they work. Ganon and bowser were great, we had some intense games. And yeah, my rob and Mac game are completely different. With mac I'm rushing and trying to get in, and with Rob I have a more layed back take your time approach

It usually takes me a bit to finally start figuring out my opponent with Bowser but then stuff gets wrecked. But I have no idea how that one Up Air from ROB killed me. I was nowhere near the damn thing.

The last hit has a big hit box and priority. I definitely noticed you had a much harder time against my rob

Does anyone have reservations about the match format? Some folks have asked for 3-stock FT5, and I'm curious what others think.

I hates ROB's in general since they have 2 Projectiles and a ton of priority, decent range, great recovery, and they can just wall heavies. The more I play against opponents like this the better though so win I play FG andI face a weaker ROB I can annihilate them completely.

And Bowser and Ganondorf don't have any real projectiles.(Ganon don't have any)

You were getting tech chased by my Flame Choke though. :)

Yeah I'm still not totally sure how to avoid that xD

GGs Shamrock, you PK Thunder using bastard! I need to figure out how to get around that because you were cooking my goose, especially in that last match. ;__;

At least I took a match off you, so I accomplished my mission. :) Now to go watch some pros and procrastinate on my stuff.

GGs man. My Mii Brawler was in an SD kinda mood :/

I have found two semi-effective ways to handle Shamrock's majestic PK Thunder motions:
1) Attack the Thunder. You can clink it with some attacks.
2) Fast fall air dodge through it. Ness is prone while controlling the PK Thunder, so you should be pretty safe unless he expects this and starts winding the Thunder around early.

:O

Can you really challenge it like that? I need to hit the lab tomorrow.

Also @Shamrock, I was surprised at the kind of things that could make Brawler helpless. That inspires me to find a high-tier main even more!! No more Phantasm below the stage for me!
I'm not sure what the rules are on clanking PK Thunder, but I can take it out ~50% of the time with Bowser's fair. Bowser players on Smashboards say you can do it with dair, too. I haven't tried nair, though it is probably my best option if it works. I'm not sure what other characters have available, since I don't use Ness. Shamrock might have some info on that.

You are one bowser I want to play some day

And yes my connection is finally better, I've gotten nothing but flawless games recently xD
