I hope Nintendo is actually legitimately supply constrained on these puppies, because if they're just holding back stock to create demand as they have been known to do... they're really leaving money on the table. I get the idea that some of them can (and maybe should) be tough to find at retail, but they should really be producing enough to fill pre-orders at least.

I do give them the benefit of the doubt with these wave 2 figures, though. I think they really underestimated how much the non-top tier figures were going to sell.
 
Anyone know of a good international site to pre-order Meta Knight? I tried checking Amazon UK and Germany and had no luck. I have him pre-ordered at Best Buy for store pick-up, but the horror stories around here about BB have me feeling anxious (although maybe they will have their shit together by then).
 
I got curious and checked out Target's customer service Twitter account (@AskTarget). They've had a few people asking about the Rosalina preorder, and their official party line is, "We'll take pre-orders sometime before the release date on February 1st", so I guess their social media people are kinda clueless about when preorders actually go live, as well :-(

Watching people on there freaking out about how they can't get the new Nicki Minaj album from Target is kinda an interesting change of pace from this Amiibo stuff, though... hehehe
 
I pre-ordered several of the next wave Amiibos at the beginning of the month. Amazon can't find Luigi but will let me know when they do. Wtf is that? Zelda shipped. Goddamn these things.
 
Had every one of wave 2 and 3 preordered about a month ago, I've cancelled every one of them. I'm not falling into this trap anymore.

Waiting on a confirmation from Target that they actually have a Diddy for me at a Target like 30 mins from my house.

Just sitting here at work....waiting on an e-mail and hoping it's good news. What am I doin...

Edit: Nope, they cancelled my reservation.
 
now watch... i'm leaving in a few mins to catch a bus. i bet that is when they will go on pre-order... bleh.

i got the target app on my phone, i'll try to buy them from there :(
 
Went to Target last night which resulted in initial confusion among the sales associates, then a determination that they would go on sale today.

Today there was initial confusion and I watched the Little Mac Amiibo go from "in stock" to "low stock" to "out of stock" at the opening of the store, and nobody was even in there except me.

1/2 hour later, a nice sales associate, after allegedly having to open 26 boxes, brought me a Little Mac figure.

I got him.

I sense there is some type of thing going on with store employees. Last night they claimed 4 Little Macs in stock. They're aware of demand and I think scooping the figures up before they're put out on the sales floor.

This is definitely going on at a few places as some of the more unaware employees are befuddled as to why their stocks are in the negative. I've seen this at three or four different locations between Target and Toys R Us.

My fiancee` used to work at Target and says it is Target policy to fire someone on the spot for the quoted. I don't doubt it's still happening but as a rule they are going to be harshly punished if caught :/

It has to be their policy, because I would imagine that if this were shown to be a systemic issue with a certain retailer, a company like Nintendo or Sony would have legal recourse against them.

Unlikely. A lot of managers are in on it, as well. People used to go to secret areas of stockrooms, grab the stuff they knew was going to be on sale/rare and hide it. Managers knew about it and didn't care as long as you bought it.
 
My 3 amiibo turned up in the post today! I got Samus, Link and Pikachu. Pikachu is my favorite since it's pretty sturdy (plus, its Pikachu). Samus has a bit of a lean but not a bad one like I've seen in some pictures, it doesn't bother me at all really and I like how detailed her model is. Link is probably my least favorite Amiibo, his pose doesn't work very well. I don't mind the yellow stand though. Overall though, the quality is pretty good so I'm not too upset I couldn't find any in stores, and won't be as hesitant to order online in the future.

They seem a little expensive in £, there's no way I could justify buying all of them for what I'm getting out of them right now. Smash Bros. functionality is a little disappointing. Fighting amiibos is pretty fun, but even though I know people might see it as cheating, I kind of wish you could fight alongside your Amiibo in other modes like Classic and All Star. It'll probably only be interesting when a friend with an amiibo comes round with the current functionality, since regular Smash mode doesn't hold my attention for that long.

Haven't tried Mario Kart or Hyrule Warriors functionality out yet but I'm glad it's there, especially the spinner in Hyrule Warriors which is a pretty big deal. The Samus outfit in Mario Kart 8 looks really cool too. But I'm a bit confused as to why Link gets a pretty mediocre outfit in MK8, when Pikachu gets nothing - because I think there could have been quite a good racing outfit made with Pikachu's colours and features.

I guess part of the value comes in knowing the Amiibo you buy are going to have value for (hopefully) quite a few years as they are recognized in many future games. But I'm playing cautious, if a game releases in the future with massive Amiibo functionality, they aren't going to lock major content behind characters that are now impossible to buy. Being honest with myself, I mainly just want them for my shelf, so I'm just going to stick to buying just my favorite characters and not worrying about rare stuff like Wii Fit Trainer (even though I play her in Smash Bros., I doubt she's gonna have much functionality in future titles and don't think her figure is something I want). Only guy I think I might miss is Villager, but with how popular New Leaf was I'm gonna wait and hope for a restock - his rarity just doesn't make sense over someone like Fox. Only Amiibo I want in Wave 2 is Zelda so I'm being pretty sensible. Wave 3 might be messy since I think I want Toon Link, Sheik and Lucario.

After that I can see myself wanting ZSS, Charizard, Greninja, Jigglypuff and Ness. Hopefully they don't all release in one wave or that would get messy!

Overall I'm pretty pleased with them, but would say to anyone buying Amiibo for in-game functionality that they would be better off waiting for quite a while.

I spoke to my local one and they said all the rarer Amiibos they've gotten have been for the pre-orders only and usually nothing left to put out on the shelves.

My Deedee and Shulk orders are their so we'll see how well they do.
 
Little Mac, Pit and Captain should be shipping from Target.Com tomorrow and arriving before Friday.

Zelda is shipping from Amazon.

Diddy and Luigi have no status coming from Amazon, and I don't have Rosalina preordered. Amiibos are making me anxious.

So I was o.k with amiibos being set pieces that I had an itch to collect. I got my Samus Pikachu and wtf to 50 and I thought i was done. That's it. I know they said that amiibo's kept on learning but I didn't believe it to be true till I watched this

Then I got this insane urge to play with my Samus to see if I could get her to learn somethings from me. And low and behold after about two hours of training it started using my combos.

I kinda want to start over with her though. She has a bad habit of trying to dodge everything. Granted that she is very good at dodging most of everything. I just want her to be more offensive. Is there a way to restart your amiibo?
 
My best buy has these pre order tickets so I thought to grab ones for Mac diddy and falcon just to guarantee I get those

There are three people at two registers trying to figure out why the system is blocking my pre order.

The whole release of these amiibos have been ridiculous
 
Ok they were able to get my diddy and Mac pre orders through. Looks like I'm picking up the exact ones I had in my hand yesterday tomorrow finally.

Yes, go into your Wii U settings, I think it's three screens over (at work, can't double-check), there is an amiibo settings screen. You can reset in there, I know, I actually did it for my Samus as well :)
 
Ok I bought Yoshi and Fox just in case they go rare!!! I needed them for the collection.

The Best Buy saga continues.

I called up there to make sure that YES I could in fact pick up the new Amiibos today (despite being dicked around all weekend about them). I was told I would have to wait until Tuesday to get them.

So I call and the guy tells me "Oh they've been out since yesterday. In fact a guy came in and bought one yesterday."

Thus my rising anger at their shoddy run store.
