SMASHGAF RANBATS – SEASON ONE​

The brackets should be all set up. Every player should be able to edit the results for his or her bracket only. If you are unable to edit your bracket, or you discover that you have access to a bracket besides yours, please let me know and I will fix it. If anyone feels a stage should be added to the legal stage list, please let the thread know and we can discuss adding it mid-season.

The results of the first round are due by next Sunday, December 28.

SETUP:
• Each player belongs to a bracket.
• Player names are listed as GAFNAME(NNID).
• Each week, you are responsible for playing one new person in your bracket by Sunday night.
• Record the score in Google Spreadsheets using the invitation you were provided with.
o 1 = Winner.
o 0 = Loser.
o The horizontal cells from your name are your score; the vertical is for reference against who you played against.
• The format is Round Robin – everyone plays everyone in their bracket once.

IN-GAME RULES:
• First to 5 wins takes the set.
• 1v1.
• No items or custom moves.
• Either player may switch characters between matches.
• 3-stock with an 8-minute timer.
• In-game mechanics result in the stage decision (each player picks; game decides).

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:
• Be honest.
• Be respectful.
• Be responsible.

GROUNDS FOR REMOVAL:
• Dishonest score reports.
• Disrespectful conduct.
• Consistent failure to play matches on time.
• Consistent complaints about connection quality.

FAQ:
What if my opponent and I are having trouble making our match happen within the one-week period?
You have a two-week grade period to play each match, but do your best to play your match within the one-week period provided. If you do not play a match one week, you must play two the next to catch up.

What should I do if I know I cannot play a match within the given time period?
Please notify me and forfeit your match respectfully.

Why is <Insert Rule> the case instead of <Insert Other Rule>?
Everything exists as it does because I feel it is a good policy. Nothing is cut into diamond, however, and if the majority player base feels a policy change is needed, I fully welcome discussion on the issue.

Can I join late?
Unless someone drops out mid-season, you will have to wait until the next season begins. There is no player cap, however, so you will be welcome to join when the next season begins.

Can I play ahead, or even finish my entire season right away?
Sure, go for it! I encourage this, actually.

Should I wire my connection?
Hell yes you should!

This is incorrect. If you want to see a move with no landing lag, do Lucario's nair into jab. Bowser's fair still has plenty of landing lag. You can't use it as an aggressive ground tool for this reason. It will always get grabbed, and it's very hard to space it properly against short characters.

Charizard's fair has about as much landing lag, but his nair has no lag if you land it properly.

my friends pretty much always play little mac and captain falcon respectively and they tend to beat me most the time.

those characters are so aggressive. I'm having a hard time dealing.

will someone tell me how to beat the fuck out of them?

I can get to that point pretty consistently, but the platforming segments painfully reminded of how truly slippery the controls are in Smash Bros when trying to play the game as a platformer (Subspace Emissary really didn't work for that reason alone, IMO). I get bodied by the stupid flower turret things and I get juggled so much that I die extremely easily in the hazard areas. I've never been able to destroy more than 2 cores on the damn thing. Ugh, such a horrible idea to add to an already shitty Classic mode. Easily the worst Classic in the series.

Anyone have any tips? I want to unlock the Classic-related challenges and bail the fuck out of the mode altogether, but Master Fortress stonewalls me every single time.

My tips, take out those flower turrets right away, they are indeed the worst. Run past Stalfos and most other enemies, being careful of those small spiky Metroid Geemer enemies. Once I get to the cores in the center, I usually just get to it quickly and beat it as quickly as possible.

Also - if you don't take the heart container right away, once you defeat the first two, or three cores of the four you can go back and use it then, it'll still be there. Pretty useful.

If I got another 10 people to take the survey and sign up, I would add a sixth bracket. Also, if you sign up, and someone is a no-show on week one, I could sub someone in.
 
GGs Kenturoxx. Sorry about the lag, but I think it's due to distance (Im UK). Some matches were pretty good though.

First mii gunner I faced. I had no idea how to approach you or what was going on xD

Oh and thanks! Taunts are the best right? If I played Diddy I would make Monkey puns. If I played Wario I would do biker and fart jokes. If I come up with a hilariously suitable taunt would you use it?!

...Yeah! That's what I'll do, I'll sell taunts! That will be my Smash claim to fame!

what's a good pick?

I have been maining light/floaty characters like kirby and jigglypuff and these just make really tasty snacks for aggressive powerhouse characters like captain falcon and little mac.

I've tried some lucina, and there may be some promise, but honestly I can think of almost no one that seems to have the sort of raw power and mobility of captain falcon.

Mega Man is great against Little Mac, it's easy to keep him at bay with projectiles, his throws are decent and has an awesome aerial play (very easy to follow Little Mac offstage and kill him with literally any hit)

and his "jab" is great to break any advance Capt. Falcon tries to make.
 
Is tournament mode coming in an update...?

I noticed when I first played it wasn't anywhere in the game. Is there any reasoning as to why it was removed?

it's a wip alongside lobbies and whatever else they're brewing. i'm hoping for a surprise christmas update.
 
I sent a friend request to everyone in my bracket.

On a different topic, I am terrible at tilts. I can't seem to pull them off in the heat of battle :( Also, I seem to not be improving while everyone else online is. Does anyone have up-to-date Yoshi tips?

Would be awesome if they made it possible to create rooms/lobbies like in MK8, with weekly gaf tournaments (then we wouldn't have to manually add each other all the time)
