Nicely done by Bryke!
Bryke showing that same-sex couples are legit![

Definetly gonna need a rewatch, especially that ending! Such emotions! Its been a great ride!

I liked how Tenzin didn't get how he needed to go when Asami came to talk to Korra

Holy shit they actually did it. I thought there was no way it could happen but the actually did it. Fucking
Korrasami
. I was losing my shit when
Asami sent Tenzin off with an obviously fake excuse. Right at that moment it was clear in her eyes, and soon after it was obvious from Korra's look as well.
And that ending shot is as good as we'll ever get. It's real. Fuck yes.

Also the fakeout was amazing, I actually fell for it and thought it was going to happen.

I love how we're talking more about Korrasami than anything else that happened in the 2 episodes

kuvira's backstory was some boring trite garbage. mama didn't love me. nobody saved the earth kingdom so i had to do it. wah wah wah.

As I have repeatedly mentioned, Korra is not going to be known for its characters - very cookie-cutter, filled with tropes, etc. These complaints are just the beginning for what could've been a great series. Nick intervened so Bryke did the best they could with what they were given for these last 3 seasons. For me, the ending and how Bryke were able to force closure was just amazing. Didn't expect it at all with what we got from Books 2 and 3.

Book 4's ending will stand out as the best ending out of everything that Korra has given us, IMHO. Bryke know how to end things with a bang! Thats for sure!
So many fanfics awaiting with this ending. Can't wait to see what DeviantArt has in store!

So yeah.

That was a final episode. I guess it makes the most sense to do bullet points.

* Kuvira plot was 100% pointless. As a conflict, it was just really silly. She's stomping around the city, with no real goal in sight. The conflict itself just kind of found aimless and had no tension or weight to it. Also Kuvira's end plot was really rushed and awful. She basically went from being a raging psychopath that just wanted power, to someone with mother issues. It didn't really ring true, and didn't jive with the "I always get what I want" Kuvira. She is officially worse than Amon, no doubt.

* Overall plot for the end, just felt like...nothing. Really, there was no build up. Even on Korra's side of things, I never really got like, a powerful emotional plot. Her whole "I had to suffer to know compassion"...again felt tacked on. I didn't really see that plot develop all season to have it make sense here.

* The fights themselves were kind of lackluster. We didn't get any stellar choreography like Tenzin vs Zaheer, or Book 3's finale. Some of the set pieces were cool, but the actual fighting itself wasn't anything special. Again, it's because the entire conflict really had no tension or purpose. So the entire thing just felt without purpose. Even the fight between Kuvira and Korra just felt like two regular benders going at each other.

* No mythology plot here. Korra didn't get any connection to her past lives. There was like no call back to the overall mythology. They just created a new spirit portal, which okay. Is kind of cool. But uh...sort of feels pointless? (Like in terms of the story).

* Korrasami is canon? I guess? Trey made a good point that, Bryke had their hands tied, in terms of the stigma and pushback of gay romances in Kids shows. And if the intention was for Korra and Asami to be romantic, they pretty much danced around it as much as possible. The ending felt very much like close friends, until the part where they hold hands and look at eachother's eyes. I feel mixed on this. On the one hand, I understand they couldn't do more. But it also kind of made the whole thing, feel kind of like a cop out? Like...that they had to completely dance around it. Like in the actual end, they couldn't even just have them have that romantic plot.

* I think the overall use of side characters (just in terms of action) was kind of cool.

* The part where the Spirit Portal opens, and the music swells, was trying to be like Aang and Ozai moment. But it completely lacked any emotional importance, so it kind of felt tacked on.

* Varrick and Zuh Li's marriage was ;) DO THE THING.

SO YEAH...I didn't hate the Finale like Book 2. It just felt very vanilla, and not important. Was a really strange way to end this show. It basically had nothing to say about the series as a whole. The season really felt rushed and clumsy, and didn't feel like it had anything to say either. I'm not sure why we had this season at all. But I think the aimless and no plot ending pretty much summed up why the season shouldn't have existed.

Would prob give this a 6/10.

Wasn't awful. Was fun to watch. But really lacking any plot or anything important. Character pay off was especially lacking. But the worst offender, was just the plot and the overall ending having a non plot.

"Boy, bye."

I would strongly disagree. The action was probably the best of the franchise.

I was kind of hoping they would just leave it without pandering to any shippers and leaving it ambiguous.

It kind of sucks to see this franchise end on shipper bait.
even though it blew my mind

Was hoping for a bit more "Avatar", ya know?

She was an Orphan. Su took her in and gave her a better life.

She wants to be the Earth Kingdom's Su. By force if necessary.

See, I get what Kuvira is trying to explain, but I can't see why it made her slide into being psychopathic dictator as opposed to just getting the Earth Kingdom in order and leaving it at that. She was totally justified in starting her campaign, but she took it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too far.

^Yeah I agree. I get what she's trying to explain, but it wasn't explained very well and it doesn't explain the decent into hitler territory.

Yeah noticed this as well. Kuvira's motivation is also getting a bit of attention. Eh, I thought it was a bit clunky. She felt she had to step up when no one else would - I like that part. But it doesnt really explain the hitler stuff like concentration camps. Honestly, I would have gone with a "No one else would help our nation. The other leaders wanted to exploit us. The people who had the power to do something chose not to. I did what was best for the earth people, screw everyone else" and just leave it at that. Still wouldnt have been great but I think the whole orphan bit was clunky and not exactly relevant.

Loved the ending for finally getting Bolin and Mako's dynamic down perfectly.

Korrasami was slightly more "implied" than HDW's crush on Velma, I'm surprised.

Original series ended the same way, to be fair.

that's it?
just crying?

am i missing something here?

Kuvira's parents left her for unknown reasons and as she grew up she felt like she was worthless to them. When the Earth Kingdom got abandoned by everyone, she felt the need to step up and be there for it since she knew what it felt like to be abandoned. It was also probably her way of showing her parents that she wasn't worthless. That's basically the explanation for why her heel-turn was a fast as it was.

Not even close. Lol Maybe some of the bigger set piece stuff was cool. But the actual choreography with bending, wasn't that great. We've seen better in non finale episodes.

This happens quite often in the real world. Dictators start of this way.

Good writing dictates that a series of events explain why she went off the deep end, but even without it, it still makes sense.

Original series ended the same way, to be fair.

That felt more organic to me, like it was planned from day one. Here it just sort of...happened.

And besides Aang had just defeated this giant looming threat that had been there since the beginning. Korra had a hack of a villian with poor writing.
