Yeah I can agree with this.

But I don't think it matters. The way it all came together as one big team effort made it work.
 
Kind of surprised people are loving this. Entire episode like, had no plot, or any kind of emotional pay off. It was pretty devoid of like, anything. I mean, the bigger action set pieces were cool. But in terms of the actual fighting, we've seen better in even non-finale episodes. The plot was really weak. The ending really said nothing about the series as a whole (or any plot at the end).

I dunno. I enjoyed it. But it wasn't like a great ending. But seems like people are floored by it. *baffled*
 
That was a great ending, especially that action-packed first half. As far as ending such a terrible season goes, they did a pretty good job.

This entire season's plot was just stupid as fuck, there was no chance in hell they were going to salvage it. What made the episode great was the action and the focus on it. They didn't bother trying to fix the nonsense or add to it, so basically we're just really glad they didn't fuck it up more than it already was.

Sure, but the overall action direction was probably the best we have seen in the series.

The methodical way they took down the colossus by iterative process, the buildings flying all over the place, the explosions, the variety of elements and technology. A lot of moving parts and it was clearly communicated. The 1 on 1s were series par, but then you have plotting to back up these actions set pieces as the group tried more and more things to take down the colossus. It really spoke to how you destroy something so strong: small, precise strikes to dismantle its foundation.

It was extremely, extremely well done. It had everything, and it looked extremely good to boot.

I don't think anyone really cared for any of the plot details, but the ship was satisfying.

Agreed. Everyone's minds were just blown because of
Korrasami. Like, they actually did it.
I thought the actual episodes themselves were unspectacular. Nothing special. Villian sucks. I lost my avatar bet.

What's baffling about it?
There was shipping. SHIPPING. A series could be complete crap, but if it has a ship then it's automatically better.

I feel once that last scene has passed people will be able to give the finale a fair shake on whether it was good or not.

Even that was kind of like, underwhelming. I guess I understand that they had their hands tied. But lol. *shrugs*

This was just a very vanilla ending, that has NOTHING to say. I'm just surprised people are saying this was great. If we take the whole book 4 season, and the ending itself, it's kind of a terrible overall end to this series (I mean the overall season + the finale).

I'm just surprised by like, how bland and devoid this ending was of a plot or something meaningful to tell. It was almost like, a masterpiece of saying nothing.

And the episode ended on a "that's that I guess" feeling!


Seriously, that whole finale almost felt like a mid-season episode. There was one cool moment, and that was Mako blowing up the heart. But no consequences beyond "good gaiz win"

No consequences for anyone or anything except for one dude who's suddenly back that no one really cared about.

It wasn't utterly terrible, but the season hadn't really built up much to actually wrap up, so it's a bunch of off the cuff conclusions all slammed together, and a "fuck you nick I got my lesbian/bi shipping right here" move to conclude their widely popular, spiritually interesting series.

So, in short... Okay, whatever.

When I entered the finale I already knew I didn't care about anything relating to Kuvira, I just wanted to know if Byrke actually had the balls to do a same-sex relationship in a kid's show. I am left satisfied
 
The finale was definitely better than the season as a whole. Both episodes were filled with energy that a lot of the season seemed to lack. Lots of good character moments happened too( and the occasional not so good ones).

Still, we all know that the ending is what's gonna be remembered about this the most.I'm still in disbelief that it actually happened. Happy, but shocked. O.O

TAK, that plot was pure crap. She was way worse than Amon. I was laughing at how quick they went from Raging Psychopath that wants power, to trying to cram in a story/motivation and it being mother issues. Shit was so bad.

That was like the worst part of the entire finale. Sorry breh.

For the most part, the plot was pretty straight forward. Kuvira attacking, they go and stop her.

I liked the whole Varrick/Zhu Li romance, I liked Asami's moments with her dad, and I really liked the new spirit portal - that was super neat, sort of made the finale special in its own way. But I mean, there werent any twists or huge reveals or major character advances.
 
Having finished the episodes and after thinking it over and reading more about the issue in general, my initial complaints were overly incendiary and coming from a privileged and ignorant position. I had no idea how hostile children/teen animation still was given the progress that's been made in of other areas of television. It's not fair to complain in the way I did if they're being kneecapped by the equivalent of censors in terms of what they can do. Without knowing more about what their motivations were and the possible choices they had available in the face of censorship, I can't really justify a critical position of that nature.

If I'm being truly honest though, I still feel conflicted about it. Given the way the writing poorly resolved/treated Kuvira/Korra's main storylines, it doesn't give me a good feeling of the way the writing team was working and whether I should give them the benefit of the doubt. It makes me question whether the setup process was dictated primarily by the demands of censors or whether the implementation was a creative choice between several possible censored options (of which others may have been better).

More or less this. I couldn't care about any scene that involved Korra trying to spare Kuvira though, or just anything about Kuvira really.

I greatly disagree.

This was a great ending. There are a ton of thing I dislike about it, but those come from expectations of what I think Avatar should be.

These episodes pretty much said: "Fuck your expectations. Have some series-best actions scenes. And Varrick. And Asami. Now go the fuck to sleep, you have work in the morning."

I may be slightly delirious.

Eh, the finale was... typical or as someone else said "vanillia". I thought the fight scenes were good, but lack the weight behind the scenes because of etc etc Kuvira deserves better than dis etc etc.

What was so great about it? It had no plot. There was nothing said about the series as a whole. 90% of it was just a silly robot smashing shit, some beams blowing shit up. A quick battle that had mediocre fighting.

This was literally and ending about nothing.

Won't be hard, seeing as they were lazy and tacked on multiple scenes to try to mirror the two (except LOK was much worse, as there was no emotional impact to the scenes like they were in ATLA).
 
All in All the ending really confirms what I thought since Airbender. This IP has no business being on Nick, I mean for fuck's sake they STILL can't say kill and a show like Steven Universe or Gravity Falls can. I don't even want to know what else was crippled by Nick's refusal to make the show TV-PG
