I for one, don't think everyone that liked the finale only likes it because of that. I'm sure that could be the case with some folks, but to say that's what everyone thinks, well no.

I'm still surprised anyone would love this finale though. I mean there was no plot. It was almost like an art form, how Bryke made a very flat ending to a series, where the end plot really was about nothing and said nothing. Thematically, they had nothing to say about Korra as a character, or the series as a whole.

The Kuvira/main plot was fuckin awful. And pointless.

Honestly, outside of the action set pieces (which were fun), it was all just really shallow. And I still don't think any of the choreography was anything special. So outside of the big stupid silly looking sci-fi robot smashing some shit up (which was like 90% of the episode), I'm just at a loss...as to what anyone would have loved here?

The ATLA finale was all about death, and the fear of death, and the tragedy of family conflict, and a butting-against-heads of ideologies (kill or not kill)

There was just SO MUCH going on between the characters in those episodes. When Ozai started burning the world, I felt fear. When I saw Sokka apologizing to Toph for their impending deaths hanging off the airship (and Toph got all teary eyed) I got sad. When Zuko took the hit for Katara, I was stunned. When Azula freaked the fuck out after getting chained up, I was sorry for Azula AND disgusted. When Aang hid in the rock ball, I was super tense. When he went into full badass Avatar State, I was overcome with the raw power. Same when he fought for his soul when energy bending Ozai. I felt really relieved when it was all over, everyone was crowned, and the camera zoomed off into the sky.

In this... I felt a bit tense when Mako was zapping the heart, and was slightly worried he might not make it. And the rest of it was just me hanging out, watching.

I mean the shipping stuff is nice and all..but that's how they chose to end the series? Ending the franchise? With some shipper bait? No introspective about the Avatar world. Nothing about her past lives. Barely anything about the Avatar except Tenzin's one sentence.

I think it was entertaining enough. I didn't hate it, like I did Book 2. But it was also a really flat/dull vanilla ending. I'm not saying like I'm angry or fuming over it. Just more so, shocked people are saying it was a great ending. Like what.

My best guess:

1. Spirits gg'd out because of all the crazyness. New portal signaled things calmed down, avatar back in control, balance to the world?

2. That ship sailed a long time ago. Maybe that's part of "there's still so much to do I feel like I've only gotten started".

3. Republic city completely destroyed, will expand outward with the new spirit portal at the heart.

Yes it was shallow. But the entire series has been shallow.

This season particularly so. These episodes are head-and-shoulders above pretty much everything we have seen this season though.

And I do agree about most of the emotional moments missing, but the show has pretty much always missed those.

Do not get me wrong, I do not begrudge the criticism, much of it is warranted. I just think the episodes are fun enough to transcended most of their issues.

I never thought I'd see the day a Nickelodeon show had a gay main character, and not only that, but it's probably the best show Nick's ever been a part of. And they did it just so, so classy.

It was fun to watch for me I guess. Fights were pretty decent and music was on point. Pretty much all I was asking for at this point.

That's valid. So I'm getting, most people just found it fun and entertaining. I think the action set pieces were cool. I guess for me, the "fun" aspect kind of fell short for me. Because once Korra and Kuvira were fighting, the fighting itself was lackluster. And then there was like no emotional impact or importance to the conflict that was being pushed. So the episode kind of just went downhill for me after the moment Korra was in the robot. It just felt very dull and flat.

I also am just kind of like, I dunno. Silly sci-fi robot blowing shit up for the majority of the end? Kind of cool set pieces, but...eh.

Great finale. I enjoyed it a lot. And Tenzen stated what I've said about Korra for a while. In a lot of ways she's been a more successful Avatar then Aang was. The challenges Korra has had to face where much harder and more complicated then the ones Aang had to deal with. And she's had a more transformative effect on the world then he or Roku did.

Basically... this.

Legend of Korra has never had the depth of the original show. It has moments of it. I thought Korra Alone was pretty friggen great. I enjoyed the Twnzin and his kids moments back in season 2. Or Lin and Su's fued. But, the show has always been more popcorny fun than the original show. This ending is consistent with that.

Again, I agree this season was a weird way to end - smaller, more uneventful. But it was fun, and I do think it had the best development arc in the show (Korra's recovery).

While the plot was irredeemable, the execution was flawless imo, save for my plotwist which never happened.

Fighting was good. Music was good. Animation on point. Leagues better tha Book 2's finale, and a bittersweet ending to the series.

I almost thought they were going to go with Makorra.
