I'm having a discussion with my friends on the phone and they're seriously trying to tell me Korra's character arc is superior to Zuko's.
I fucking can't.
Lol, your friends are nuts

Good write up.

Ask them is it because of Korrasami at the end.I'm having a discussion with my friends on the phone and they're seriously trying to tell me Korra's character arc is superior to Zuko's.

Fantastic ha

The one major complaint I'm not getting from some people, though is the lack of addressing her past lives. I'm not sure how any of you can think they even still exist. Raava got exploded and then reassembled. She was the reason those lives got carried from person to person and then she got destroyed: Those lives are gone. The beginning of Book 3 had Korra attempting to contact them, and it had even been implied that she had been trying for awhile. I mean, how much time was there between the end of Book 2 and the beginning of Book 3? A month? Two months? A few weeks? That's quite a bit of trying, assuming she attempted every day. A major point of Books 3 and 4 seemed to be that Korra was a new beginning. Hell, Book 2's finale implied that same sentiment just in Korra's closing speech about the portals. It always seemed clear to me that those lives were not coming back.
Same. I always found Korra to be more interesting than Aang.
Hm so apparently according to the storyboarder, Will Ruzicka, the holding hands and looking at each other with Asami and Korra wasn't in the animatic for the finale.
Honestly it was like Korra and Aang had their missions switched. Korra would have wreaked Ozi's shit but I think Aang was more suited to deal with Korra challenges. Fortunately they both rose to the occasion to deal with their respective missions.

I wouldn't be so sure.
Korra never performed any of the feats that Aang did when he started curb stomping Ozai to hell and back.
Why wouldn't they exist? They were only cut off from Raava. They would just be in the spirit world. Book 2 and Book 3 have a two week gap and Korra isn't the greatest spiritual medium. People wanted it addressed because getting rid of them permanently was pointless for her character and just an excuse to continue writing her as alone. It was a waste for her and the franchise as she had only interacted with her past lives all of three times in the entire series and one of the most unique aspects of the Avatar character is the whole idea of being part of this grand legacy and being able to contact the predecessors.
The whole idea of a new beginning would be pretty compelling if she had interacted with them more. But she didn't, and then we had two more seasons to look forward to. So people thinking or wanting her to reconnect doesn't seem that outlandish at all.
To be fair Aang never grew into a 50 foot tall version of himself and fought an evil Avatar.
No the giant fish thing doesn't count.![]()
.
It was overall pointless for the series as she was already alone and having to stop and think on her own for most of the series even before the connection was severed. It was just really blatant emotional manipulation as we were just introduced to Wan and playing on our memories of Aang and the others and it just comes off poorly. Having intent is great, but execution matters more.It clearly wasn't pointless if it had an intent. The intent was to have Korra alone and as a new beginning. She had to stop and think on her own now. Yes, they should have shown her going to those lives more, I don't disagree, but there was clearly a point to what they did, even if it was just for her character and not so much for a central plot point.
I always took it that they resided within Raava. Kind of the whole point of the reincarnation bit, no? You are your past lives? Or is that some vast misinterpretation I'm having? I look at it like a jar of water. It falls on the ground and water spills out. Maybe it breaks, and if it does, let's say you fix it. The water that spilled out is gone and you can't get it back. Maybe if Korra had gotten away from Unavaatu before he destroyed Raava, I'm sure she would have retained some of them. Plus, there's nothing to say that those lives are in the Spirit World and can be communicated with thusly. I don't recall seeing any of them on any of the times we went there for the story and I don't recall anyone mentioning that they were there.
/deadMako: Both of my ex girlfriends started going out with each other.
Zuko: That's rough buddy.
Through I like korrasami heh, I think it would have been better if Bolin and Mako ended up joining them for that spirit world trip too, or whatever to end the series with team avatar and their friendship, and just have the korrasami thing when Korra and Asami are sitting looking at the remains of that part of republic city.
Finally got to see it, no thanks to Nick .com, and it was incredible. It honestly tops the endings of the original series book 3. I like that.Wuu actually chose to step down and start a democracy, instead of continuing the monarchy. It was actually really fun to see him grow
As for the ending,.it's going to cause some controversy for sure, but I'm fine with them being Bi-sexual, and yes, Bi-sexual, neither had any kind of struggle being with Mako, it was Mako with the issue, so maybe he's...?
And OMG!This entire spoiler is in caps, just warning you.VERICK PROPOSED TO JULIE! THAT ENTIRE SEEN WAS AMAZING! I LOVE THAT JULIE (which I'm probably spelling wrong) SAYS SHE ALWAYS DREAMED THEIR ENGAGEMENT WOULD BE ATTACHING ONE MACHINE TO A GIANT ROBOT! AND HOW HE PROPOSED? WOULD YOU DO THE THING WITH ME FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE! THAT WAS THE BEST LINE EVER!
Also, I didn't seeBolin and Opal together at the end, maybe there is still hope, in my brain, for Bolin to get back with Eska. Boska forever!
And then there was Korrasami.
Holy. Fucking. Shit.
I did not see that coming. I did not think for a second that they'd have the balls to actually go there, even if it was the end of the series. I freaked out at that closing scene. I'm still reeling over it, but I've calmed down a bit. And I've noticed some people say that they found it forced. Me? Well...I...actually buy it.
I look back at the series as a whole, and Korra and Asami got along with each other better than they did with Mako and Bolin. Of course, that's more evidence of friendship than anything romantic, but don't most relationships start out that way? At the end of season 3, we see Asami assisting Korra when she was bound to her wheelchair. It could have just as easily been Mako, Bolin, Tenzin, or possibly even Lin or Pema if feminine privacy had to do with her situation. I didn't think much of it at the time, but looking at it now, I feel that the reason it was Asami helping her was because they had more of a bond. And of course there is the fact that Korra only wrote to Asami in the 3 years she was by herself, which has already been brought up.
They walk out onto the dance floor together.
Mako: Both of my ex girlfriends started going out with each other.
Zuko: That's rough buddy.
You know while I'm also okay with Korrasami. I agree with you, they should have had Team Avatar go into the spirit world would've made for a much kinder ending.
On the other hand, Why do I feel GAF ruined the ending for me XD
I can see where their coming from. Korra has had a fantastic character arch. Personally I like The last Airbender and The Legend of Korra equally. Both show had things they they did better then the other.
I think Korra was the more interesting Avatar but Aang had a better supporting cast.
What did the Chinese(?) characters say at the end?
You know those so-called "labor camps" that were alluded too?
