I did'nt have to sit through 4 seasons of Kuruk though and he did'nt lose his past lives. Korra can stay losing. Who do you guys consider the best?

Are you talking about the trappings or the content? If it's the trappings, I can kinda understand. But content? Can't say I agree.

IMHO of course.

Content is an attempt at social sci-fi. The problem is that TA that buys disks does not care much for social sci fi but likes fanservice and wants their cliches. As a result the trappings got so annoying that I could care less about the content.

Korra is like Hamlet or King Lear when compared to that show.

Well, I am a bit prone to hyperbole, but honestly, people I think are way too lenient when judging anime.

Let's not get carried away here. The average Korra season (by that I mean outside of book 3) is about on par, maybe in some cases less than what Gargantia was able to accomplish in the 13 episode format.

Harmonic convergence with a different villain. I feel like the Red Lotus' primary ideology would fit in with spirit and human realm joining together. Korra's uncle being the villain ruined everything.


Me. All of my friends in the anime club at my high school ostracized me for that. I watched FMA but stopped since it never clicked with me.

But, Unalaq was also part of the Red Lotus.

Her avatar state sucks ass. Aang was a beast. Hell, Aangs whole squad was full of beasts who wreckedshit. Grand Master Toph is an example of this.

Her Avatar state doesn't have the wisdom or abilities of her past lives, just raw power.

Its understandable why it sucks.

Her uncle was Unalaq. Her cousins showed up earlier during the Wu coronation ep. It was confirmed Desna sleeps in the tub. Tonraq needs to get over his sleeve phobia.

Unallaq, that's right. And holy crap how did I forget about that episode. I laughed at it because they wore those robs in a hot climate.

One of the more pleasant surprises that came out of this series was Varrick. It would have been very easy to make him into capitalist bad guy #2229910. But he quickly turned into one of my favorite Avatar characters.

Roku screwed up so badly an entire race was wiped out and the next avatar had to clean up his mess.

Kuruk was useless but at least there's no indication that he left the world on the brink of chaos. He was just milking the peace brought by Yangchen (a.k.a. best avatar) for all it was worth.

You're right, he would've just shrugged and let the dark avatar exist just so he could have a potential equal/rival. Thus plunging the world into chaos.

I honestly think they didn't know how to actually write Kuvira's character. From the interviews they did at comic con they had a good idea with her, but there really was just something lacking in the execution with her. They said things, but when it came time to it being portrayed on screen they just really never gave it the time of day. This also shows that Su's a HUGE hypocrite. Granted she never tried to dominate a country but Su did some dumb ass shit as a kid and WANTED FORGIVENESS for it, but never apologized. Kuvira manned up and actually apologized and got nothing at all from anybody. It's like the opposite of the whole Bei Fong family storyline. In some ways she didn't have much of a say in her life. Her family abandoned her, which is the opposite of Amon, whom just walked out on his. She didn't want her people to feel the pain of abandonment like she did. It's a noble aspiration, but it's something I wish they discussed a lot earlier in the season. They never really gave you an idea on how Kuvira thinks, or what she even thinks about. It was just domination domination, evil stare, sneer and shit like that. It would've been nice if she at least had some memento from her parents whether it be a tattered picture or a locket or a set of earrings from her mother that she would use to remind her where she came from, something, anything. I harp on it a lot, but it is something I think about a lot.

Ah, trappings. I can understand that a bit. It's pretty light (contained to two eps other than general garb) compared to other shows but if you don't enjoy fanservice as a general rule, it's harder to get past it.

The content is very good though. The theme is pretty clear and the show keeps focused on it. The social sci-fi really sets the stage for that. It even explores it a bit without being too overbearing in any direction either. Lots of nice grey. =P

Book 3 is probably the most enjoyable and as a watch is probably pretty close to Gargantia but I don't think any of the seasons of Korra really achieve much in the 13 episode format that they should have if they were aiming for individual stories.

Which Korra even admits that she stuffed up. The whole second half of book 2 revolves around her trying to stop Unalaq. She at least attempted to rectify her mistakes.

Sucks all of the past avatar lives and histories are gone. I really hate Korra. I wish the show was about different avatars, each season would focus on one avatar and the huge struggle they had to go through. The Legend of Korra was not a fitting tale in the avatar universe.

Forgot about Yangchen she was awesome and better avatar than Korra

FMA is based on manga by a very, very good storyteller.
You should check out her Silver Spoon - yes, it's manga/anime about life in an agricultural school and she makes it amazing.

Now if someone were to say that Bryke's writing is bad compared to Hiromu Arakawa - but most mangakas and anime scenarists are nowhere close to her level.

Yeah I've read the manga. I used to spend hours in the college library going through the chapters in between lectures. Such an amazing series.

Silver Spoon is pretty great too. I need to catch up on that.

Yep. Amazing characters got to do awesome things. FMA is my favorite series of all time. Gonna do a rewatch next year as most of the show is still fresh in my mind.

I really should rewatch Brotherhood sometime. People tell me to watch the original, but I just don't think I can do it knowing where it goes at the end.

I think part of it was that it came at a time when every anime I watched had what I called "Bullshit SyFy twists", which I think Gargantia certainly has at the end. I think the world building itself was interesting enough to carry its own series and what happened at the end just ruined it... the fact that the OVA confirmed one half of the twist was lifted directly from

I always felt like the elimination of Korra's past lives was because they didn't want to deal with the inherent writing issues associated with its existence. Which is a shame because I think they could have done some interesting things with it, but I got the sense they wanted a clean break from the original series and this was the last big tether.

If that was Book 2 Korra I would agree. But she matured a hell of a lot since then. I'm she'll give some decent advice to the next avatar and help them avoid the mistakes she did.

That mostly just applies to season 1&2 Korra. Especially Season 2 Korra where she's doing a Jack Bauer to a judge.
