I'll see it, but I can't say I'm quivering in anticipation.

District 9 was meh and Elysium was straight-up garbage. Blomkamp has decent ideas but he's a lousy writer.

I cannot comprehend why Die Antwoord is involved.
They can't do worse than Sharlto Copley.

Anyway, he has always had some nice, gritty visuals, but all his films have had shit scripts so far.
District 9 had some decent ideas, but ruined them by not having much depth, and turning into a stupid videogame by the end.
Elysium was just shit top to bottom.

This seems the third attempt at the same type of film, so we'll see how it goes, even though already i can see the action twist, and i'm not too confident.

Correct? I'm saying he didn't write it himself. And District 9 is highly regarded.

You said he didn't write it, full stop. Which isn't true. But whatev. Not a big deal.

Anyway. Trust me. If I'm wrong I will buy you a prawn cocktail.

It's not that I don't trust you - it's just that I've found Blomkamp's output so far to be quite underwhelming. (Yes, even the highly regarded District 9.) I'm not hoping that Chappie is bad, but I have no reason to be optimistic about it.

I don't trust Blomkamp at all. The final act of District 9 coupled with Elysium is not inspiring a particularly hopeful career trajectory at this point.

Hah Hah! It's Tetra Vaal! Took Long enough.

After Alive in Joburg Turned into District 9, I thought this would have bee his next movie, but nooo, it had to be Elysium. ah well. Chappie should be awesome. and those Rabbit Ears make him look positively ADORABLE. XD

Final act of D9 was bonker

Final act of Elysum was pretty sub par though...

Still have some hype for this one. As long as the two first acts are good

Sounds like manufactured controversy.

Supposedly he was to be almost completely out of the movie due to his "falling out" with Blomkamp, dude is all over the trailer!

Stop falling for that article.

Um nope. Anyone who has met Ninja (not Yolandi) knows there is no need to manufacture anything.

Loved Elysium. Fuck the haters. All the criticism seemed to have been about it not having enough of a political agenda. Fuck that.

Blomkamp? Check
Robots? Check
Die Antwoord? Check
Hugh Jackman? Check

Yes... ticks the boxes for me.

I didn't think Elysium was as bad as everyone else seems to. As an action movie it was fine. I'm also a huge fan of Die Antwoord. Anyone who is interested in them, track down the Max Normal TV album. They directly reference their future transformation into Die Antwoord, and knowing winks abound if you pay attention. They are completely dedicated to their characters.

Now, now. I really don't give the slightest fuck about it having any kind of political agendas. It was a movie that started strong and then became generic and uninteresting halfway through.

District 9 on the other hand was great. Blomkamp understands what makes really good looking and appealing cg, which makes him a godsend for the sci-fi genre. Really hoping this is even better than his previous works.

Seems like this one is more family friendly than D9 and Elysium though. A welcome change, imo.

D9 was fantastic. Elysium was great. Blomkamp films are outstanding and always have the best CGI. Saffa accents in movies are always cool as well.

In the middle of the movie a child has to breakdown the difference between the 1%ers and the 99% by using a allegorical story with jungle animals... JUST IN CASE YOU'RE TOO MUCH OF A SHEEPLE TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS MOVIE IS RAILING AGAINST I WILL HAVE A DARLING 8 YEAR OLD EXPLAIN IT TO YOU WITH SMALL WORDS AND CUTE ANIMALS!

Also ironically while making a $100m movie decrying 1%ers Blomkamp became a 1%er.

D9 was pretty refreshing though. I mostly like Die Antwoord too.

This could go either way.

Elysium was shitty and a bit too heavy with its political message of rich vs poor, so he's 1/2 for me. This looks like it tackles a topic that could be less divisive and be all together more entertaining though, so hopefully it ends up good.

When I caught the trailer for this it immediately felt like a Blomkamp remake of Short Circuit.

This movie looks incredible and I can't fucking wait to see it.

Blomkamp sux, Die Antwoord sux. Good that they are working together, now I can avoid them both with half the effort.
