Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

Wasn't it already announced that H5 was 1080/60? Or did I just dream that?

Anyways after playing a bit of Halo CE at 60 I feel like it would be hard to go back, even though historically I've always preferred prettier visuals at 30 fps instead.

Just curious here. But how many people would be okay with this? Have 343 do the Killzone SF approach and have the campaign @ 30FPS with amazing visuals and the multi-player @ 60FPS.

Or would you just rather have it 60FPS across the campaign and multi-player? I really want 343 to push the campaign's openness and large encounters to the max.

I would like an option to lock it to 30Hz if there are sections of the game that are 30-55fps.

An option for 30Hz in split-screen or even online co-op (heavier action).

60fps is always better for a FPS. Pretty visuals age, high framerate does not.

Well put.

I think that it will be 1360 x 1080 (like cod and h2a campaign) @ 60fps locked. Plus I think that the graphics will be pretty damn good.

Anyway, the res debate is for another day imo.

Nope. 60 FPS everywhere for me please. I can't go back to 30 after MCC / other 60 fps shooters.

Would love 1080p but will take a hit if necessary. I think H2A's MP looks glorious though, I'd take those exact graphics in H5.

I thought I read it would be 1080p as well.

After the MCC I don't wanna go back to 30fps Halo. Sure, sacrifices will have to be made to reach 60fps, but it's worth it.

They have always stated 60fps.. That is what will be. Locked as well.
Yeah, I'm not sure about the locked part, but I know, just answering his question.

They haven't removed it, it's a control issue. It's also known and they're working on it.
It's already been discussed. Read a bit further into the thread.

Fixed :P

For real though- I don't think of those as sacrifices. Framerate drastically improves gameplay and image quality, and that's quite an enhancement as far as I'm concerned. Give me 1080p/60 and lower quality assets any day of the week, but I trust the team will make the best possible decision for their game. Halo has a history of making great choices in this department.

Here is a little montage of my highlights from over the weekend. This game is really fun and i can see a lot of potential for fun moments with the new mechanics. http://youtu.be/xynF3_25yog

Loved that! Great kills there. I like how you commit to being aggressive when you're one shot or low on shield. I pussy out a bit too early and just get assists as opposed to kills as a result.

What's the thing with the sniper that you do? You kind of semi scope in like the whole no scope thing with cod. Don't tell me quick scoping is in this like that?!

Yeah of course, but when a game isn't playable all we have to judge it by is what we see. There's always going to be discussion revolving the mechanics.

As someone who hasn't played I just don't see any way sprint could be a good thing for Halo. It just adds nothing of value and takes away so much.

Is sprint infinite btw? Gotta be limited right?

Play for yourself first then make a judgement. Everything they added works pretty well together.

So I'm wondering when 343 will unveil the "other" type of MP. I think its pretty obvious now we will have arena MP since they keep stressing that term and something completely new to the series. I remember from nktrnal's leaks that he said something to the point that Halo 5 MP will be on the scale of the Battlefield series.

Yeah, I want a new surprise to sink my teeth into. Reach beta had invasion, what will be the new hotness here.
Invasion 2.0 could be cool too. I liked Invasion.

And yeah, I'd rather play as an Elite than an IV.

Yeah I know. 60fps is totally worth having less graphical bells and whistles.

Thanks! Yeah I'm aggressive to a fault sometimes but most of the time it pays off cuz people don't expect it.

As for the sniping, yeah since the auto aim is so strong when scoping in with the sniper you can basically quick scope for easy head shots ala COD. One of my biggest caveats of the beta by far.

As someone who has played I'll tell you sprint and thruster drag the game out for me. If I start getting shot from the side or back I can usually thrust to one side and then sprint away forcing the opponent to chase me into my teammates or a nade. Long live cat and mouse gameplay and matches that timeout.

I would love this.

Especially considering the graphics at this point are not impressive at all, just passable.

On the subject of framerate, I don't think there's any going back to 30fps at this point, and I suspect many would prefer that the experience between Halo 5's Campaign and Multiplayer remained consistent.

I would be perfectly okay with them maintaining Halo 4's visual fidelity, if it meant bigger environments, and gameplay opportunities at a smooth 60fps.

This is 343i.

The game will look mindblowing, even at 60. Don't worry.

At this point 60fps just feels right. I was a little skeptical when I first heard they were going 60fps with the next Halo, but after playing nearly 10 hours of the beta, I can say that it's a step in the right direction.

I really enjoyed my time with the beta and can't wait to play it again next week.

Six total. Final episode is tomorrow night. About 90 minutes of content if you binge watch. Definitely fills the hole of the Beta being gone this week :)

I really liked all 5 of the episodes I've seen, so I'm definitely excited for the finale. I hope there's something else like it planned after the beta is over. I figured it was almost over since today's covered recent coverage. :/

I don't doubt this. Halo 4 in 1080p/60fps already looks fantastic on the Xbox One. I'd be perfectly content with that, especially if it meant a more involved sandbox.

I think after The Sprint airs it's final video I'm going to make a thread about it.

Regardless if you like Halo or not, it's a pretty amazing dive into the game development process.

If anybody wants to make the thread now, feel free (im tired). Guarantee you there are plenty of people who would love to watch it regardless if they like Halo or not.

it's really amazing how much care they are putting into this. It makes me wonder what happened during Halo 4's beta testing phase. I assume maybe it was just rushed out?

Sorry silly question but where are you guys watching these episodes?

Yup, as Big Jeffrey said, you can find all episodes on the Halo Channel.

Also...I just tried out a game of Halo 2 on the MCC....and wow....sorry, there's no way I can go back. Halo 5 just feels too good.

This is coming from someone who used to play Halo 2 very competitively in 2004-2006.

I'm hoping most Halo fans will give Guardian's multiplayer more than a few hours rather than disregard it because their nostalgia level is too high.
