Neill Blomkamp's Chappie (2015, Hugh Jackman, Sharlto Copley, Die Antwoord)

I've not seen something with Sharlto Copley I haven't enjoyed yet. That horror movie he was in last year was damn good until the very end.

Before the trailer I had no idea who Die Antwood was or is, and I think they look like pretty good actors and fit the roles well

I see some familiar faces. That girl with a weird hairdo and the guy acting gangster, they're a music duo, right? I forgot their names.

Edit: Die Antwood! Lol

first thing I noticed too, I love Die Antwood

funny how Hugh Jackman is in yet another robot film

For some reason I thought this was gonna be a movie about Hugh Jackman as Charlie Chaplin.

Slightly disappointed. But looks interesting nonetheless.

Yeah, not going to be able to not see Die Antwoord rather than the actual characters, too similar. Also, if the tone of the trailer is accurate, it is way too straight faced earnest, like a damn 80's Disney adventure movie or something.

Day 1, I want to see Ninja teaching that robot ta be cool. Also Yolandi acting maternally. Also Blomkamp's immense cinematography. It's like they made a film just for me.

Was there really a need to promote Die Antwood? C'mon Blomkamp.

Also what's the over/under that someone will blow up like a blood pinata?

Despite competition in the terrible accent department it looks like Copley is going to come out on top in this film.

What a pro.

I hated Elysium so I can't be excited for a Blomkamp movie until the District 9 sequel comes out.
I didn't like Elysium, either. Compare to D9, it was ordinary and predictable, and action sequences felt watered-down. Maybe Blomkap shines when the movie is on a budget...

Whenever I look at Chappie, his ears remind me of this:

Maybe Chappie is a botched Appleseed live action movie? :P
I guess it is deliberate.

The problem I have with this movie is it involves a not that's as smart as a small child, right?

That's all it takes to disconnect me, its a Disney movie with a bit of violence thrown in. Its just too far fetched for a real and gritty world. The aliens in d9 worked because they come from another place and it didn't reach too far.

Looks good.

Interesting that Die Antwoord is involved. Didn't Blomkamp want Eminem for Elysium, but he was unable to do it?

Looks very cool. And a 'realistic' take in contrast to family-fun ShortCut (not to mention thirty years of FX advancement).

For those of you who are worried about the script, Terri Tatchell co-wrote District 9 but was nowhere to be found on Elysium. Now she's back for Chappie.

In a perfect world, Blomkamp would be directing the manga adaptation with Johnathan Nolan penning the script.

Neill may not be the best writer out there, but he's the only director with the technical vision to make Shirow's work justice.

I would watch the ever loving shit out of that!

Another poster mentioned the action in Elysium being "watered down". That is probably what disappointed me the most about that film, especially in comparison to the final act of District 9 which felt like a Verhoeven directed sci fi film.

Exactly. D9 is a climax of both action and emotions. Elysium is dead flat in both department, and lacks especially in the latter.

Elysium's world is completely nonsensical. The movie falls apart under even the mildest scrutiny.

Blomkamp's chief concern was delivering a shallow message about inequality. Logic be damned.

How is this any different from all the 80's movies that did the same exact thing yet people loved? All the unequal futuristic society settings has been done so many times, never realistic, yet it was fine, no one cared about the logic then
