This is freaky. I just watched the Nostalgia Critic's review of this movie a few hours ago, and now I see this thread on Gaf. I think the universe wants me to watch this movie again.

I wonder if the rangers now are more inexperienced, they should've stuck with the veterans.

Am I the only person who thought the Turbo movie was awesome? I mean, they had those kickass vehicles...and compared to this first movie (which was also cool, and one I actually owned as a kid) the CG and effects were much nicer

I bet it annoyed you for the same reason it annoyed all kids back then... you wanted to be him...

Once you realized you didn't have to be a teenager with attitude... you were pissed...

And nothing to do with the fact he grew a foot and a half when he morphed... and no one ever thought to explain it. :lol
By that time, the last remnants of the Mighty Morphin cast began their exit so I was losing interest anyway. The addition of the kid just pushed me over the edge though.

I'll add though that the "In Space" season that followed was pretty good.

Explanation is as follows: None of the actoers were actually the people in the suits, they hired second rate asian kung fu people to fill the role.
Wrong, the Ranger footage was all taken from previous Sentai series.

This poster is blasphemous as true Tommy Followers refuse to acknowledge the Turbo Testament
I will admit the Turbo one looks out of place and less cool. Clearly, he must be too weighed with sin.

Kinda hard to be a teenager (or pre-teen) with attitude when you're in your 30's with kids and a mortgage.

I was so happy with the production value as a kid, the cool CGI (hey I was a kid and easily impressed) the actual armored ranger outfits compared to the nylon jumpsuits. It was somewhat disappointing going back to the series after all that...

that one was my fav. i watched it again recently and the whole thing how that blue ranger becomes adult sized is so hilarious.

Kinda OT, but I used to love the original series. My little brother still has my original Megazord in his closet somewhere. I was always bummed that I was never able to get a Dragonzord. I remember them always being sold out, and the one time I was able to get my hands on one, I was just dreaming. Waking up from that dream was horrible...I was looking under my bed, in my closet, around the house looking for the Dragonzord. Almost cried when I realized that I just dreamt that I had one. :lol

I just remember in the original series I knew who the Black, Yellow, and Pink Rangers were before they even got the costumes.

so RAcist!

Don't forget that Zach(Black Ranger) was also the best dancer in the group. Coincidence? I think not! I'm on to your subliminal messaging Saban..!

Some peeps and I sat down and watched this a while back. I just can't get over how many times these people have to flip.

Hey, HEY. Stop it. Ok? Stop it. Tommy was the superior ranger. It's been written in books, BOOKS.
:lol Fortunately I have the events as they truly occured on VHS, SO THERE

Don't forget that Jason was the American redneck and Billy was the depressed blue kid

How dare they

Jason was definitely the best ranger. He was at his most badass when he had the Dragon Shield and the Dragon Dagger. He had the fucking T-rex and Dragonzord at his disposal.

I haven't read all the posts because there's too many, but Tommy's flying corkscrew kick at the beginning of the movie is just about the most hilarious thing ever.

But only if it's late at night or if you've been burning some hippie lettuce.

I love this movie.

P.S.
<---------- Plays the theme song for the movie version. :D

I remember the CGI being kind of hard to distinguish from the background, but I assumed that this was because the Zords were so shiny and it was a night-time scene. I never actually stopped to think that it was because it was so BAD.

Didn't the white ranger's Zord (this metal bird thing) have a scene where it saved a train on a collapsed bridge by filling the gap with its back? I remember that being cool.

By the time the movie came out in Australia, I was 11 years old and had stopped watching Power Rangers. I noticed that they had different actors playing some of the rangers, but I assumed that they were from one of the new series. I didn't like how they killed of Zordon :(

I stopped liking the show soon after Tommy-come-lately took over the show from Jason. Everyone thought he was top shit, but while the other rangers' shenanigans were cheeky and fun, I found Tommy's shenanigans cruel and tragic. Plus, he started out as a bad guy, so I always assumed he'd double cross them eventually, the traitorous rat fink.

I guess I was just a Jason fanboy who couldn't stand to having his favourite ranger upstaged.

I'd also like to note that the soundtrack was also pretty Epic...Chili Peppers, Van Halen AND SHAMPOO?! Who knew it could all be contained on one single disc!?

Jason David Frank is so awesome, he's the reason I watched some of the dino thunder series. That and the cute yellow ranger girl. Dude's so awesome, he should be a action star. He's a MMA Fighter!

This makes me sad :'(.

Oh god. I try to have actual discussions about subjective things with people whose childhood memories are of the Power Rangers movie. GAF suddenly makes sense!

This movie came out 14 years ago now. That puts most people with childhood memories of it somewhere in their early 20s.

Man, I wanna rewatch those episodes when the Power Rangers met the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. That was pretty fucking epic back when I was a kid..

I was a huge Jason fan and had quite a bit of disdain for Tommy when he took over, but as the show went on, he started growing on me, so now I like both of them equally. ^_^

The series started hitting its stride around the time that Lord Zedd came around imo. That's when they stopped using footage from the original Super Sentai whateverthefuckitwas series spliced into the show. The very first season of Power Rangers was horrible in this aspect. It was extremely disjointed with some of the worst non-seamless editing ever. Check out the first episode.

When the Lord Zedd arc started, things were still cheesy but at least it seemed like the vision was a bit more in control. It seemed the producers and cast knew that the show was already marked as cheesy, so it seems they went along with it, and seemed to have fun. As a result, it came off far more enjoyable, even if the fight scenes weren't nearly as cool as the Japanese versions.

Japan actually did the same thing with the White Ranger Tommy turned into. In the original Japanese show the White Ranger was a 9 year old boy who turned into an adult when he transformed.

I never understood as a kid why Tommy, who was always so serious as the Green Ranger, would dance around like an idiot/act way too excited in the Japanese footage as soon as he got the White Ranger powers until I found this out.

Well too be fair, they would have to explain why suddenly the yellow ranger knew drunken boxing.

Man I remember how hard it was to get the megazord toy that you got separate into creatures.
My parents actually got me the Deluxe Megazord that Christmas and I really couldn't believe it. That thing was sold out everywhere and completely impossible to get, and I still don't know how they did it.

Anyway, I can still watch a lot of my favourite stuff from growing up, but I watched a bit of Power Rangers not too long ago and felt slightly embarrassed that I'd liked it so much. I remember The Green Candle double episode when
Tommy loses his powers
as being really daring, but seeing parts of it again was just disappointing.

I did have the Power Rangers album on tape and that was awesome.

No, we cannot see
Who are we, to look to

No, it cannot hear
What is to believe in

And we keep dreamin' of a world
Where all that's good so we were told
We need a hero

And we keep dreamin' of a time
Where good is all that we can find
We need a...
We need a...
Hero

Oh, and Tommy > Jason. Green Ranger was my favourite, which I think contributed to why The Green Candle was so good to me, and then he came back as a motherfucking WHITE RANGER!!!!111!1

I remember lining in front of the theatre's door before it opened, then rushed to the ticket box when it opened. Good times! This is the only movie that made me do it.

In Space was still my favorite :D I lost my interest in Lost Galaxy and basically never watched again since Time Force.

Holy shit, isn't the guy in the black armor from Beetleborgs?

Yep, that episodes confuses me to no end. Why use Beatleburg suits in a power rangers show, was it like snub to them or something. :|

I knew Richard Genelle--Ernie, from Power Rangers. Very nice guy, he gave me any my friends a bunch of fireworks to detonate in the neighborhood. There was a security patrol driving around and we totally fucked with him.

Unfortunately, Richard died a few weeks ago from a heart attack. :(

Probably an inside joke for old fans + old cheap costumes lying in storage. Episode was pretty neat though.

Also, Rita.

RIP Yellow Ranger, Rita, and Ernie. :(

Dude... he popped the power ranger cockpit cherry, then kicked everyone's ass inside. Who does that kind of shit? After this guy just fucked shit up they had to buy a lock for the cockpit. And him? He didn't even need a cockpit - he just rode on his zord's back. Chillin.

I used to be faithful to power rangers, even turbo and the offbeat ninja stuff, but after lost galaxy I just had to give it up.
