LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

Welp, been out all day with the family and just got home thinking this would be fixed.

Tried both my PS4 and X1, no luck :(

I just wanna buy Sunset Overdrive damnit!

While I wasn't affected much by this (we had friends over who and were set to watch The Interview using our 360), its completely turned us all off on consoles. The fact this has been happening for a while now and its still not been addressed is a huge turnoff. We we're all planning on getting PS4's once the new year starts, but with this stuff on-going, its just not worth it anymore.

We don't get a lot of time to game these days and its been disrupted by the assholes enough already.

Say what you will about how its not anyones fault but the bottom line is it just leads to frustration when we finally think we can play on the weekend or a holiday and we're fucked because of this.

At least on a PC, we're not at the mercy of one platform holder getting screwed.
Seems odd to let this single-handedly turn you off of consoles. Such a rare occurrence.

At least Netflix works (PS4). I watched half of season 5 of The Office today >_> lol.

Really wish I could play BF4 tho, since they have a double xp event that started last night.

I wasnt able to get on Netflix nor Hulu. I thought these apps ran independently from Live or PSN.

I know they are no longer behind the pay wall, but didnt know they still depended on Live/PSN.

I'm not logged into PSN on my PS4, but Netflix is working perfectly fine?

Hey, Lizard Dicks. This is, at most, annoying. Focus this energy on something that could make a difference for all of us. Attack maybe, I don't know, Comcast or Verizon corporate or something similar. This is the equivalent of someone kind of yelling all day outside of your house. It kind of annoys you and makes you not able to perform some activities, but ultimately does nothing. Grow the fuck up.

Then people would have no internet instead of just no console connection. x_x

Go after North Korea, that would be cool.

So UK here and still experiencing problems with xbox live.

edit: I can log in, but I cant retrieve my dragonage save or play online, or even access achievements.

I thought you were looking at your family or some shit... It's Christmas!
Watching shows with family is arguably that kind of activity you should do as a group, which should help him understand why this is so incredibly frustrating for people. Certainly it doesn't seem like he's at the extreme where everyone should just play Monopoly or only talk talk talk anyway.

EDIT: And heh, I find the Wii U mentions kind of funny. My main gaming activity was on Wii U, especially with Bayonetta 2.

I'm unable to do this because it says my license can't be verified. A few days ago I lost access to my Destiny DLC when PSN went down then and a kind gaffer told me how to restore those licenses : Too bad I need to connect to PSN to reverify my licenses. My PS4 is decorative right now, I can't even watch Malcolm in the Middle.

WiiUs been working all day btw
ALL DAY

Likewise and what I've learnt is with XBL down I can't even access the channel guide on my TV :(

Edit - I take it back, just favourites/trending I can't access

To highlight how rickety the Internet can be, one of the largest DDoS attacks on record took down giants like Google and Twitter within minutes. It was unintentional.

When Michael Jackson died, the sheer amount of people all going to Google and Twitter to confirm, or find info, made both services fall over. Twitter literally broke, while Google threw up an iron wall and asked people to enter a Captcha to prove their human - the traffic volume was so much and so instant, it tripped Google's penultimate DDoS protection system.

I was lucky earlier today an managed to import my save from Dragon's Keep, but I was stupid and didn't like the character I made so I started again. The problem is I can no longer connect with the server and import again.

I always screw up luck when I get it.

great, so they can get more botnets

Yep. "luckily" I am working all day so I wont be upset to much but damn, its reaching the point where we actually do need a cyber police who CAN go after these international terrorists.

Because there is not a single authority Sony/Micro can go to, to go after these guys. And of course if Sony/Micro wanted to DDoS em back or whatever, they would be breaking the law...so they cant even do much.

I mean what the fuck,

trade that POS game in.

Is this really the place for that kind of thing?

Because of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, which makes DDoS'ing a federal crime in the US, federal assets can be called upon to try to track down the people instigating these kinds of attacks: but doing so isn't easy.

I bet Sony and MS lost a LOT of money today from potential sales from their online stores.

Not even counting all the consoles that will be returned to stores tomorrow from parents who don't know this (DDoS) is going on.

They might not actually buy the botnets. But then I get I doubt they have the hacking prowess to actually create their own. Or perhaps they buy from a really cheap service.

yeah, fraud/crime on the internet doesn't pay much (individually), too much supply.

you can buy stolen credit cards starting at $15, $25-40 for platinum or corporate cards, they'll even throw in a few free ones to sample the "product". There's thousands of card details easily accessible through Google. So that should help put things into perspective.

Plus, if you don't care much about reputation you can always just buy a couple of stolen cards to pay for stuff.

Honestly, by acknowledging them, we're giving them exactly what they want: attention. That's what this is all about. A bunch of no-lifers doing the only thing they feel they can do to feel important.

If people would just stop talking about them, tweeting about them, and running stories about them, it would inevitably stop. Think like a small child throwing a temper tantrum in an effort to get what they want. If you just ignore them and don't give in, they stop.

The best part is that I don't think they acknowledged LS last time, so I don't think they will this time.

Embarrassing.

What's one day of not gaming. Sounds like they did us a favor for one day.

Look in front of you, those are called people. They may be friends or family, spark up a conversation.

Happy holidays.
Thank you for taking valuable time away from your family to post this on GAF.

It's pretty much impossible not to talk about this though.

So uh, is this a YMMV kinda thing? I was on PSN 3 times throughout the day for an hour or two each, mainly playing Xrd, and I encountered no problems at all.

Yep. I bet they both lost millions and millions and millions of dollars in sales that people would've made on the digital store fronts to pass the time with the family gathered around or apply gift cards to.
