LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

Only a matter of time until these kids are caught. They're way too cocky. I almost can't believe they agreed to do televised interviews, because even if the people being interviewed weren't actually in LS, it just gives the authorities one more path towards possibly busting them.

My guess is they have been 'caught' several times but that they fall into a legal grey area where the rules mean they can't be touched, hence their cockiness.

Must be some pretty crazy loopholes they're taking advantage of if they're untouchable even after causing millions upon millions of dollars of damage.

I'm still pretty certain that ddos attacks have been ruled as a non violent form of protest on the internet and arent punishable by law... I swear I've seen that beofore in a few court cases...

What about a Class Action Lawsuit, Americans seem to use them for about everything else!

Wouldn't surprise me! Law has itself tied up in knots these days, hell in the UK we have problems punishing terrorists let alone DDOSers!

No I want them to give me some timelines on when it is best for me to check again rather than have me just sit there retrying over and over. Its called managing expectations.

Yes, self imposed timelines, what could possibly go wrong?

Maybe just follow them on Twitter and set it to notify you of any updates?

Wow that sucks. I'm a little surprised so many people are still having issues. I've been able to log in no problem for about 3 straight days. I apologize - that isn't bragging, I just thought all the issues had been fixed.

You're missing my point, I'm not saying they have to give me a timeline when it will be fixed, just when they will provide further updates. E.g.

First message: -

'Our engineers are investigating the cause of the issues we will provide a further update in two hours'

In two hours time: -

'Our investigations are still ongoing, we will update again in 4 hours'

Then in 4 hours time (assuming progress has been made): -

'Our engineers have established the cause of the issues and are working on a fix, expect a further update in 4 hours'.

etc. etc.

The time to fix is a separate issue, this is about putting some structure around your communication and making it seem like you are in control.

Re Twitter - not all of us use twitter/facebook

Yes they can, but the lack of any sort of response from Sony is what annoys me the most. They have said nothing at all, on what are they doing right now, when will it be fixed etc etc. This shows a lack of care, and respect for the consumer.

Playstaion Australia were posting updates on their Facebook Page on changes and fixes.

Fuck that, I want a video stream that shows me the lazy engineers sitting on their ass not working!
/s

I'm sure they are working hard, the daily updates have been fine. Why do you need to see the same message every 4-6-8 hours anyway?

So not only should they format their messaging specific to your requirements, they should put it where you want?

Can you see how this might be a touch difficult? Facebook and Twitter are the largest social media sites in existence, if you need a message spreading they are the absolute quickest way of spreading it.

Sorry about that.

:) I have no doubt they are working very hard (and probably under a lot of pressure).

Its not that I want to see the same message every 4-6 hours its more that people plan around availability, for example over Xmas is the first time in a long time that myself and my pals were all able to get together to game (work/life gets in the way generally) so it would have been nice whilst we are all on the phone to be able to say 'ok look Playstation have said no further updates for 4 hours lets reconvene then and see where we are at that point'.

They have a support/status site, is it unreasonable to expect a message there?

Look I'm not trying to beat Sony into the ground all i am saying is I would have appreciated more structured communication around the issues and the fixes.

P.S. Equally a lot of what I am saying I would apply to Microsoft also!

it looks like they are hosting their own service now. Pay for DDoS.......

Without correct power distribution, if you hit a home connection right now, you'll drop the entire city.

Getting replies like this: @LizardMafia can i take down sony with it?

Here's a new article with some more information:

Revealed: the young men who ruined Christmas for Xbox and PlayStation gamers
Sources say Kivimäki was arrested by Helsinki police in October 2013 on suspicion of running a huge botnet consisting of more than 60,000 hacked web servers around the world. Local Finnish media reported on the youth's arrest, although they didn't name him. Kivimäki, 16, also was reportedly found in possession of more than 3000 stolen credit cards.

...The same voice can be heard on this video from Vinnie’s Youtube channel, in which he enthuses about hackforums[dot]net, a forum that is overrun with teenage wannabe hackers who spend most of their time trying to impress, attack or steal from one another.

In a thread on Hackforums that Omari began on Dec. 26 using the Hackforums username “Vinnie” Omari says he’s been given vouchers from Kim Dotcom’s Mega, and wonders if the Hackforums rules allow him to sell the vouchers on the forum.

Someone posted this awhile back but it seems to have went unnoticed mostly:

The FBI is allegedly investigating Lizard Squad over Xbox Live, PSN attacks

I'm not sure how reliable the article is, but it's good news if true.

Lol at the extradite part. If he's under 18, even the finnish law enforcement can't take him to court much less turn him over to the US. Because of his age it's a case for social services. But if I'm not mistaken he could be held respondible for financial losses, at least in theory.

They just gave out a skype username for a federal officer that's investigating them, but then deleted that message.

I'm not familiar with Finnish law or any European law for that matter. (I mean at age 16 he could be charged as an adult in the US, but apparently not in Finland? Like I said I dunno.) But I think they have definitely caught the attention of many law enforcement agencies. It looks pretty clear that they wanna get these guys so at least that's something. After the original attacks, earlier this year, we heard nothing.

A quick look at ipviking shows several servers in the US are getting hammered at the moment, I've never seen it so bad.

I changed my MTU settings back this morning and finally able to get back on without a hitch.

This whole thing sucked.

But the silver lining for me I guess was GTA V BAWSAQ stock. I think due to the outage, I was able to put all my money into WIZ at 0.27, which is now up to 1.08 for a 300% return percentage :D

Been up the last three days for me, but for some reason i can't play coop in Resogun. Don't know if there is something wrong with their servers or and error on my part.

The justice system in Finland allows to sue 15 year olds. With a juvenile law system. So that shouldnt be the problem. Since he shows a lot of criminal energy.

If that's the case it sounds like the authorities could definitely build a case against him/them. I don't think the article mentioned where the other member was from.

Don't forget American Airlines and LAPD would love to get a hold of these kids as wel..

LizardSquad member Julius Kivimaki (Zeekill) has already served 3 months in prison for the [Sony] bomb threat. Finish authorities have him under house arrest.
The Suojelupoliisi moved very quickly in that instance.

@rootworkx has the inside scoop on these guys for several months.

Damn, I missed that one :( But I'm glad he got caught for that detestfull behavior..

"Kdramastars also states that a member of the unknown member Lizard Squad made a post on 4Chan"

This is about the most tenuous series of connections one can possibly make. Kdramastars sources highly questionable stories from 4chan posts all the time.

Sorry for the bump, but there are "reports and rumors" from random piracy-friendly websites that Lizard Squad is preparing to release PS4 CFW that will enable playing of pirated games.
http://www.maxconsole.com/maxcon_forums/news.php?pageid=ps3crunch

This is probably bullshit. Source of this news is 4chan.

No, just no. Barely anyone in Lizard squad knows how to hack let alone release a CFW. All they do is buy a botnet and DDoS. Literally anyone with very basic knowlegde of how a computer works can do this. It takes a ton of skill to make a CFW. What a BS story, don't ever cite 4chan as a source lol

Links in that page follow to other reports where they are supposedly joining forces with a dude who managed to find some security flaw in PS4 using addon chip. It was there that 4Chan was mentioned.

Oh there you go. It's BS for sure if it's Kdramastars.
