Microsoft's probably better defended (about as well defended as you can be anyway) versus Sony who is more generally electronics at best (though really more fingers-in-every-pie) rather than specifically focusing full on with computing and computing related stuff.
When you think about it it's the difference between, say, problems from aging versus stubbing a toe. It's a way, way bigger deal to lose your mobility, get more and more serious illnesses, and start to lose more of your mental sharpness, but stubbing your toe will make you yell much louder.

Yesterday I cooked lunch for my mothers family, opened up some presents and spent a good 6 hours spending time with the family. When they left my mom, dad, sister, her husband and their two kids and myself exchanged the rest of our gifts and chilled together. Today I woke up early so I could drive an hour to spend 7 hours with my dad's side of the family. I was looming forward to coming home and playing Destiny beside my nephew for the first time.
But go outside and talk to real people instead of being a loser and playing a video game. Right?
All saves are saved on the cloud and your HDD. You should be able to load your save in offline mode.

The attack is being carried out by infected botnets that number in the tens of thousands. Not exactly a trivial volume of machines to safeguard against. Attacks like this happens all the time from Russian crime organizations similar to this one that use malware to carry out large scale attacks.
I feel like we need an edit to the OP to clarify some of the misinformation on GAF about these types of attacks.
Those cuts are several days old at the earliest and photoshopping that piece of paper to say whatever you want would be a trivial thing to do.

If you're on PS4 just sign out of PSN and play offline. Worked for me.
Sadly I couldn't play Forza Horizon 2 as it told me I had to sign into a profile, and I couldn't do so.

At this scale, they're likely one and the same. A significant majority of the world's malware and DDoS attacks originate in Russia because of their legislation protecting things like that. Something of this scale is far less trivial than many people think it is. Most attacks on this scale use the same Russian botnet networks that are also rented on places like the Deep Web for foreign and corporate espionage.
This shit's existed long before it started targeting everyone's favorite video game services.

Same. I didn't know this was online only
I just finished playing far cry 4 and I haven't been on PSN all day. It was stuck on logging in for a minute and then it gave me the option to play offline.
