LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

These kids are just a bunch of shit heads, putting a bullet in their heads is more than they deserve. A much harsher penalty for them, as far as I'm concerned - if they can ever find out who they are - put a lifetime ban on them every getting any kind of internet access of any kind in any country and blacklist their names for social insurance purposes- they will forever be incapable of getting any kind of credit or loan or even opening a bank account as well as holding a job or going to school - basically anything that uses technology or allows ANY kind of connection to online infrastructure in anyway - they would be forever removed. Essentially forcing them into homelessness , should they decide to off themselves, well that's their choice.

Doing shit like this is like an open rejection of society and the privileges that it affords shit heads like this. Denying them the chance or ability to do anything like that for the rest of their lives unless under some level of heavy supervision is probably the only way they'll really suffer.

This didn't ruin my day personally, just the fact that they get away with it is what's shitty. Punishment should fit the crime , so jail time or death or whatever is absurd but giving them what they clearly want - cutting them off from the online world we live in , that's what I would LOVE to see. Might scare others from repeating those mistakes too.

"hey did you hear lizardfuck was found by the government and now they'll never be able to own anything for the rest of their lives or hold a job or start a family or leave the country or do anything other than sit in their room and think about what they did for their entire natural life ? "

"oh man, really, maybe I'll refrain from knocking out world of warcraft for an hour because I think it's funny then"

Obviously the ridiculous situation I propose above will NEVER EVER happen but it's fun to imagine.

Wtf did I just read

Throw the damn book at these idiot kids, IMO. They can rot for all I care.

I wasn't personally affected too much, as a 30 year-old married guy, but man I feel for the children who just wanted to play with their new toys today.

It is extremely fucked up to intentionally ruin the Christmas experience for hundreds of thousands of children.

IMO this is cause for demanding that online services are secondary to maintaining good offline user experience.

Quoted for strong agreement!

It's insane to me that I can't play a single-player version of a game that's sitting right there on my hard-drive just because the developers decided the game "needed" to be always online, even single-player.

I feel that this is only the beginning if they really stopped the attacks thanks to Kim Dotcom.

What's to stop them from demanding payment to stop attacks during every major holiday?

Right now in San Diego PSN is going up and down, interrupting with "undergoing maintenance" messages. Earlier it wasn't connecting at all.

Digital games are fine.

Unless you mean streaming?
This IS a fine example of one of the biggest issues with streaming gaming taken as THE way to go. Everything is dependent on a stable, consistent connection, and anything happening there whether it's a DDoS, permanent shut down, or just plain old poor internet connection will not make it work. Nevermind all the consumer rights issues, though permanent shut downs are kind of tied into that.

It's also an issue with game's depending online authentication nonsense. It's a shame it's somewhat caught on in the mobile space, even at best it's an unnecessary few seconds of wait time to prove a copy's legit that most pirates would easily have gotten around anyway.

I was able to log into Xbox Live but it's still majorly gimped. Almost nothing will load (Netflix, Messaging, Achievements, Hbo Go), however. May as well still be down.

All annoyances aside, it really shouldn't be this easy to take down a billion dollar companies' entertainment service for nearly 24 hours. Things need to change, there's no excuse for it to be allowed to happen ever again, literally.
