So it looks like Mega/Megaupload founder Kim DotCom had paid off Lizard Squad to stop the attacks (from Kotaku).
So....Lizard Squad disband, form a new group called Reptile Squad, continue this rubbish and get more rewards?

Exactly paying them off is not the answer. Just like giving a child what it wants to shut it up, it'll just escalate and get even more out of control.
The only way this'll stop is if anonymity is breached.

Report coming up on this after commercial on my local news station. Looking forward to the misinformation and the word hack used many times.
I've played launch systems at christmas before its not this bad and I would completely expect them to be up anyone who thinks this is normal is delusional. Now the ddos might not be that bad just the fact that its coupled with holiday traffic. Although im pretty sure the attack actually stopped. This is still Sony/MS recuperating from the attack it'll take longer than most think because it involves more than just restarting some servers.

Kim Dotcom basically paying them off was definitely not the right thing to do. That dude probably doesn't know any other ways of dealing with problems.

I don't understand this, what am I missing? Is the guy affiliated with PSN/Xbox Live at all or did Lizard Squad just want something from him and said they will stop if he gives in?
If the latter, why would someone do that? I wouldn't even want Sony or MS to give in to extortion demands for someone to stop attacking their servers. Why would a random with no affiliation be targeted for goods like this?

He's the guy who started mega upload. He wanted to appease them to get them to stop by giving them mega upload vouchers since he's too broke to give anything of real value now. Probably so that he can go back to playing cod too
