LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

Thanks group of bedwetting children. I don't have decent enough internet at my house to download my free copy of TLoU, but I figured I'd do it in town at my boyfriend'boyfriend's house. Nope.

OK, this sounds way more interesting and fun than bitching online about PSN/LIVE still being down. I am listening.

PSN is derp and keeps trying to access things it don't need, stalling things. I've seen people in the thread say that if you go to your settings and turn off internet/wireless/wired or something, it'll make most single player games work.

This right here is a serious, serious fuck up by sony, it's been an ongoing issue with countless games since the ps4 launched and should have been fixed by now. The average person isn't going to know to manually disable the network connection.

Think of little johnny on Christmas morning trying to play a single player game and the system locks up every time he launches it.

I dont think its "entitlement". People are pissed because they take days off during this time of year so they can actually get a break from their shitty 9-5 and play some games. But these hacker groups ruin it for everyone.

Vacation days and holidays are so few and far inbetween that when you finally get some time off, you want to spend it doing what you love, and thats gaming.

So yeah, instead of these hacker groups fucking with the man.. theyd rather fuck the regular joe.

Awesome job guys. You are heroes.

From this article I was just reading (I'll remove if the link is blanked out ban)
http://www.businessinsider.com/why-...own-xbox-live-and-playstation-network-2014-12

"The easier game network to take down was Microsoft’s Xbox Live. Sony had apparently upgraded its security recently, which took “a bit of time to work around,” but Microsoft had “almost nothing” in terms of security.

Now this caught my attention, because as I was lead to believe from people here
that a beefed up Sony PSN wouldn't even come close to Microsofts security on its worst day.

What kind of changes do you think both companies are going to take in order to bolster their security.

This sounds like a bunch of people talking who don't know what they are talking about. Xbox Live has yet to, as of today, have any attack that compromised personal information. Is it easier to DDoS? Maybe? But then again, any servers can be DDoS'd rather easily.

Sony recently got hacked and had SSN numbers and other such released publicly. Back on the PS3, they had accounts get sold off by hackers, etc. None of this has ever happened on Xbox Live. Worst thing that happens is the service goes down.

So far.

So, we can believe whatever folks say on the net, but the proof is in the results.

PSN is definitely working for PS3. I can access the playstation store also. Still waiting on PSN for PS4 since I can't purchase the ps4 version of Guilty Gear Xrd from my ps3. lame

Around 2:40 central after being down all day it finally let me log in but quickly logged me back out shortly after and that cat and mouse game went on for over an hour even though I could log in my PS3 just fine. Seems there was some kind of progress made on logging into PS4 after the assholes in question said they were signing off for the night as the PSN app was also working and I noticed friends were slowly but surely logging back in and even a few in games on the PS4. But as of right now I can't log in to PSN on the PS4. Maybe I missed something while I was sleeping but is there a reason why PSN works in the PS3 and not the PS4? And it may be purely anecdotal but the people on my friends list who were able to not only get on but play in actual games were from the Northwest US and the West coast only.

Don't understand what hackers get out of this, why not attack someone worth while?

It is unlikely these people are hackers. They are just people, who have access to a large botnet they can point at something and go "bang". They are sociopaths, enjoying the reaction of pressing a button and watching the internet go squeak.

However, in the event that LS is a front, a distraction, for a *real* hacker group to once again go into Sony's network and get our info, credit card details, passwords, and more - that's going to suck when Sony finally admits to it having happened.... 6 months later.

So, Kim dot com saved the day?

golem.de(germany)

"Kim Dotcom stopped PSN- and Xbox-attacks with Mega-Accounts"

Kim gave someone a lot of free stuff, and it didn't change anything for the end-user, since the attack happened, and continued happening, and the after-effects are still evident.

Amazes me how angry people get over this...yes it is an annoyance, but a day or so without PSn or Live is hardly s big deal, all my offline games work.

Don't understand what hackers get out of this, why not attack someone worth while?

1. They're just kids having fun pretty much.
2. They know they can get away with it.
3. Notoriety

Quoted for truth.

Yes we pay for these services, yes they are down. No this should not be acceptable but damn there is a lot of salt in these threads.

I had to explain to my sister on the phone earlier today, why the PS4 they got for my nephew can't play CoD online. There's your salt cellar right there. People should feel entitled to use things they bought without a group of little shits ruining it for their own personal entertainment.

How did Kim Dotcom save Christmas when PSN is still down for what seems like half of the world?

Is it working for anyone in the UK?

Need my damn FIFA fix...

So yeah, instead of these hacker groups fucking with the man.. theyd rather fuck the regular joe.

Awesome job guys. You are heroes.

That's what I don't get from these hackers that claim to be for justice or whatever bs. If they really wanted to hurt the super bad mega corporations they hate, why take it out on us? It makes no sense unless of course, they aren't really doing it to "get the man" and just doing it because lulz or "they just want to watch the world burn".

I don't think these guys were trying to hack into the system though, i don't think its safe that 'hardly anything' or whatever they alluded to as far as security is out there though now. More malicious people may try to take advantage of that. Or perhaps, maybe they were just alluding to the ability to DDoS them was too easy.

Yeah, PS3 got hacked, but that also led to PS+, Free Games and Xbox Live games with gold, something we would not have today if not for that hack.

Did you read the article? they specifically stated it was after sony upgraded it's security after the hack..it is not hard to believe there network is very secure now. MS is not god or the be all end all.

If PSN was still free for online play, then I personally wouldn't complain as much due it being free. However, I'm paying for online play now, so I had an expectation that the servers would be a lot better. So I have a right to expect being compensated for this! If this happened on May 19th or any other random date, then fine, but YOU DON'T DO THIS ON CHRISTMAS DAY! I personally had two friends returned their PS4's due to this even after I explained to them the situation.

Edit: I told my friends that it was just a temporary situation due to a group of idiots. However, they were impatient and return the systems :( That was JUST TWO OF THEM, but I also have other friends of mines with Xbox Ones, PS4s, Wii Us(two of them) and even a Vita and THOSE friends of mines are understanding of the situation :)

I wish people would stop going "oh it's only games yo". No shit but a lot of people are off during this time and this may be the only chance they get to really game. Not to mention all the Kids who got new systems and whatnot.

If this had of happened in a random ass week, you guys driving by with this shit would have a point....This is the Holidays in which a lot of people connect via gaming.

Ok but getting angry at Sony or MS??? They are getting attacked and are victims, not to blame here. I am not driving by anything, this is a minor annoyance, all games that are not always online work, heck even patches and what not still download.

I guarantee that if PSN were free, you'd be here complaining about it just the same.

And your friends sound like reasonable people.

These are not hackers. They don't claim to be for anything. You can't lump them in with anyone who DDoSed for "Free Speech" like Anon did a while back. In this specific instance, there is no hacktivism going on, no statement being made that isn't disingenious. It's just "watch the world burn".

I was really just agreeing to be compensated with that post from that user :)

Ah, in that case I can see your point and usually I'd agree but in this instance I'm just concerned about anything that will cause these skids to surface more often. I'd prefer to hear these guys are behind bars than get a free game since its looking highly likely they're gonna keep this up throughout 2015. If MS or Sony were even partially responsible however I'd expect some form of compensation, but right now no data or anything is at risk.

My main issue is the amount of children being locked out of their present right now so if anyone should be compensated I'd say it's systems registered between the 24th up to a reasonable time from whenever the system is back up. All of us with pre registered systems can use them at least.

Huh. Makes sense PSN is down. When will Sony learn from Microsoft about how to make state of the art network infrastructure? These clowns are making it easy to understand the Xbox is a better system overall.

This reads like someone who has the reading comprehension and understanding of a 5 year old. It had nothing to do with actual hacking, it says XBL was easier to take down with DDOS. Plus PSN wasn't compromised during the recent Sony hacks so there's no point in you even bringing that up. Different systems have different levels of security, after the hack a few years back and getting people to play for MP Sony have beefed up PSN's security.

I'm throwing that in the "definitely happened" pile.

Sounds like your friends are a bit capricious. If this scenario is even real.

You realize the same people took down Xbox Live as well? Microsoft did weather it slightly better, but from an end-user perspective, down is down.

Nobody is immune to this scale of DDoS. This isn't about PSN vs Xbox Live.

Returning your PS4's lol.

So if Obama isn't going to help us.,.

We need to start listing demands for this outage.

At least 6 free games to choose from (we only get the choice of one) across all Sony's platform and a month of PSN added for people?

Doesn't seem unreasonable.

Apparently things are still going down now and then on the psn and xblive side. At this point it may just actually he the weight of increased user numbers causing those services to buckle, as has happened in previous years. But at this point, for paid services, they should be well prepared for such circumstances considering free services under more load remain functional

At my mom's for Xmas weekend with no ps4 or x1. Hoping to watch the interview once I get back to my place so I hope this shit is done with by then.

Take your complaints about server stability to another thread. There are tons of them where people voice legitimate gripes.

This is a different matter.

Many people have posted actual data about how difficult it is to stave off a massive coordinated DDoS attack. What magic will happen to make the networks more "hardened"?

If this starts to affect the bottom line then there will be money to be made from finding a way to prevent it. It's not magic, it's just capitalism.

I'm not convinced that this is the case, but if DDoS cannot be defended against then then what follows? Gangs of teenagers attempting to extort money from companies? Eventually the internet will have to adapt to eliminate the threat.
