(PSN is having more troubles than XBL, but both have reports of issues, it really just depends on how lucky you are).
Absolutely. I'm playing Alien Isolation, Wolfenstein, and Evil Within. If those periodically required check ins that might not have been the case.
There zero good reasons they should need to authenticate with a server or lock out play, and 400OGbps zombie DDOS's why its a terrible idea.

What? There is no (reported) hacking going on here. There isn't even a DDoS currently (that we are aware off, and nobody has claimed responsibility for any). Are you talking about Destiny on PS4, or XBL? PS4 is still having some PSN issues, which might impact Destiny on the PS4, things like it not being able to log in, thinking you don't have PS+ for online, etc. If XBL, kinda the same.

To be fair everything (including your fucking pins!) Requires xbox live to work.
Technically you can play them offline but both these new consoles are effectively bricks when not connected to the host network.

Nope. Just hit circle once sign in fails. That's how I did it yesterday afternoon..though PSN has been fine for me since last night.
Shouldn't be, but it'll probably be very slow. I powered mine on and was greeted with a system update. It took over a half hour to download 250 MB though. I loaded up MCC, but it needs a 4 GB update, so fuck that. Guess I'll just play Civ V tonight.
