Idk how u guys think the companys a victim here, it is a victim of an attack, but its their fault they cant protect themselves.

If every kid in his moms basement could bring down a whole billion dollar industry with a few clicks we'd be doomed and the gaming world would have died years ago. This is a major fuckup, Im pretty sure PS4/X1 were major gifts this year, and they simply dont work properly on christmas day and a few days after. Specially when most consoles come with a downloadable game, its essencially a 400$ paperweight.

Last years attack was a big fuckup, but I actually think this is far worse, this is probably the most important season for these industries.

Umm wait a second, its a criminal offense what these guys are doing. You can have the best security at a store, but it still doesnt prevent someone from doing a criminal attack on your business (stealing, threats, etc).

While SONY does hold some accountability, its still criminal stuff, they can only do so much.

The easiest way to stop it would be to DOX these kids and pay a security firm to hunt them down, but that might cross legal boundaries so its not on SONY to do that.....

Of course they should be pissed at the burglars. But that doesn't mitigate the fact that the parents of House #1 made the effort to get better insurance and thus the kids got their toys back quicker. And from the kids perspective they probably don't even care about the burglars. They just care they get their toys back ASAP.

According to the other topics where people are a bit more knowledgeable than some here, Sony is doing something, but it takes quite a bit of work to do.

I'm not saying that they can't literally do anything, because there are options, it's just that it's completely time consuming and not as easy as one thinks.

You are right, the kids are accountable for their actions and should pay for what they have done. But im pretty sure there are many ways Sony could improve their security and server capacity/load/wtv, Live is back and PSN isnt, and this isnt the first time this happens. I think this is a very very serious matter, both companys want us to go full digital, but when something like this happens (and it does happen a few times a year), the system becomes unstable even playing disc based offline games. They are probably being targets because of their low security and high media attention.

I want to see how both companies will respond to this.

I mean, if someone managed to "flood" all streets to get to Disneyland with fake cars and prevented hundreds of people to enjoy their Christmas vacation there, they would be.

These guys aren't in any "safe" country and they have caused a lot of economical and moral damage to both Sony and MS, not to mention thousands of people.

Thats the problem, there is no real answer. You cant stop ddos entirely. The internet model is flawed and until we move to some other standards this is going to continue.

Your analogy is incorrect because of the scale of your analogy.

This isnt afecting "a family", but millions of people, a better analogy is imagining a full country being attacked, and yes people should get angry at the attacker, but also angry because their taxes money isnt being spent on protection (when it has been attacked previously).
