Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

That thing is ugly, why, just why. Who exactly look at the old spanker and thought, it'd look better if it was mottled green and more generic.

What is the point of the Hydra? It seems a lot like the Plasma Launcher, why not just bring that back? What is the point of taking Covy weapon schemes and just UNSC-ing them.

Have you even looked at the difference between Bungie made Halo games and Halo 4? Because if you're going to sit there and tell me that the art style in the Bungie games is even remotely close to the "conservative" nature of 4? Or what we've seen of 5? You're flat out mistaken. I'd also make the case that while Halo's artstyle may not have been the advent-garde movement you're attempting to say I'm implying? It certainly has has a lot more style and character than this rocket launcher has.

If you can't see the general drastic shift in design to a vastly more conservative, modern military style in 343i made games? Then I'd debate that you're the one who needs some perspective.

Sorry but i am not seeing all the "modern military style" in 343i's art, mind pointing it out? Because what i have seen looks pretty damned futuristic to me.Also the old rocket launcher wasn't exactly the pinnacle of weapon design either, in fact i always thought it looked kinda "meh" compared to other weapons in the sandbox( didn't care too much for the BR's look either until Halo 4) like the AR, Shotgun( Reach model was best) or needler. Hell the pistol in Halo 2 looks like a modern day pistol compared to how it looked in CE, where were the complaints then?

Compared to the likes of those weapons and other power weapons like the "Pro Pipe" which really did have a distinctive look and firing method for a UNSC weapon the RL was pretty bland.

Lol that does not explain why the Rockets have not changed until now. Only now, in a game that will force gameplay mechanics for "immersion", is the artstyle changing for certain aspects of the universe.

I don't know why they decided to change it. But the point stands that some of you are acting like Bungie's human weapons were these radical shifts in tone from modern military equipment when they weren't. Bungie's 2550 pistols, grenades, marine armor and jeeps don't look terribly different from modern pistols, grenades, marine armor and jeeps.

The human equipment in Halo 4 more or less looked the same as they have in previous games.

343 are never gonna get away from the "to accommodate COD kids" arguments. Even when those arguments are farfetched or outright bullshit.

Some of it is their own fault. But a lot of it is just bitterness carried over from Halo 4.

probably to accommodate "smart scope" zoom that takes up the whole screen

Ah I see, another casualty of the smart scope atrocities.

It's a shame. People might say that 'it's just a model' but take away all those unique Halo sounds and models and you are destroying the feeling of Halo bit by bit. When I first fired the BR in the H2A campaign I had this big grin on my face.

However, with what I've seen from the H5 beta, the shield sounds are way too many beeps instead of low hums; the weapon models seem off.. sans the AR. Honestly, who in here thinks the H5 BR sounds better than the H2A BR?

Really sad to see the SPNKR gone... Maybe it's a design decision? Having one shot per magazine vs. two? EDIT: Nevermind, it HAS two shots. WTF.

Still, its design is so uniquely Halo...

I don't dislike the new one, but it's no SPNKR.

Is there any design 343 hasn't changed for the worse? UNSC ships, Covenant, shotgun, sniper, warthog, pelican, and now the rocket launcher.

And I swear to god that new gun was modeled after a nerf gun.

Man, you talk about 343 having a uphill battle lol. You got a whole community saying "Keep everything the same" telling your developers to stifle their creativity isn't good for production.
I like the new Rocket

light version of the torque bow will be next.

2015: Year of the Bow

I'm not gonna complain about the new Rocket Launcher. Sure, it ain't no SPNKr, but if it functions similarly I don't care too much. 343 always liked redesigning things for no good reason, I don't see the point in getting upset about something like this anymore.

This new excuse to rag on smart scope is ridiculous.

Sure the change to the rocket kinda sucks but it's not to accommodate for smart scope. The new design doesn't even have a scope, neither does the AR, or the Hydra, or the sword. They already have a bunch of weapons which have no sights yet still can smart scope so they could have easily implemented a similar system for the old rocket launcher.

Yes now the rocket launcher looks like the stinger from cod! This will make me and other cod players feel right at home for 2 weeks when we play this before moving on to a different military shooter.

It doesn't look anything like a stinger.

safe to assume we'll be able to use the same beta launcher from the preview weekend or do you suppose we'll have to redownload the beta in its entirety?

interesting that when asked about beta maps josh responds "7 maps total, including two Breakout maps and one Forge creation. i thought it was confirmed that crossfire, the breakout map we've seen, WAS a forge map? why is josh making a distinction here, unless that was wrong?

That's debatable.

If anything Reach weapons and armor (bulky mjolnir, tactical pouches) were terribly conservative compared to Halo 4's anime mecha aesthetic. I suppose that was to drive home the pre CE timeline, but still, this is 500 some odd years in the future.

The actual redesign doesn't bother me too much since the original rocket launcher was pretty nonsensical, but why did they have to make it green? Just make it silver and black like the other human weapons and call it a day.

For the Spartan Laser green made sense because it grounded an otherwise goofy weapon, but for a rocket launcher it's jarring, not to mention just plain ugly compared to the brightly colored spartans themselves.

Eh, I don't mind the redesign, but I wish they didn't go with that army green color.

Also, thank you for proving my point about every change being blamed on catering to the CoD crowd, HaloGAF. Lol...

I can agree with this. Making it black and silver to better fit in with the rest of the human arsenal would be a good step to take.

343 really can do no right with the internets it seems. If theres one thing 343 did right - its the "look" of Halo. They truly nailed it with H4 and really all the artwork from the books since they took the helm. The concept artists they have over there are easily the best in the biz outside of From Software. 343's Chief himself never looked cooler but a simple but perfect example is the 343's UNSC bird logo over Bungie's old one. Just night and day stuff.

343 already did the classic Rocket launcher in H4 - I guess people forget about that. Tech changes fast in 343's expanded universe. This is talked about quite a bit in the recent books/comics. The new launcher looks like an updated M72 LAW used in Vietnam. Looks more real world military to me which Halo has always aimed for with the human weapons.

I honestly couldn't give a flying fuck about the new RL design. And the "everything is pandering to cod" bullshit is just annoying.

When I played the beta, I didn't think for one second that it was like cod. It shit all over every cod that I have played including the mighty cod mw.

Anyway all I am bothered about is the 3 weeks then by until November beta! Three weeks is not going to quench the halo 5 thirst that I have.

Guys, I just noticed this..

Did you see it? No? Look closer..

THOSE GLOVES. They look like real gloves now. They're willing to go this far to make COD noobs feel at home. SMH.
