LIZARD SQUAD is Back. Planning XBL Attack. "Biggest attack yet". [UP: XBL/PSN Down]

Got 50 on the friends list online on PSN. Thats what it usually sits around. Lookin good I guess. Best of luck to the rest of you. Hope this doesnt happen again any time soon. Hope they bust these lizard kids.

Anyone hear about the passwords/usernames/credit card #s leaked for PSN, XBL, Amazon, Walmart, etc. by Anon on twitter? We should all probably change all our passwords while we can still get into PSN/etc.

Shit is still fucked up on Sony's backend. I redeemed my Pick 1 of 4 code and after I selected Far Cry 4 it's supposed to give you a code you can enter, but in place of a code it reads "undefined" and I haven't received an email with a backup. Anything having to do with redeeming accounts or account settings just goes to a general maintenance page. I hope I didn't just waste that.

I kinda feel like I must be doing something wrong because I keep checking PSN in between watching episodes of a show on Prime Video and each time I get 'server has been lost'.

Then I check this thread and more and more people are saying "All good."

It's not All Good. At least not here.

no luck in Seattle...I just wanna play BF4 that I just bought a few hours ago during one of the windows when PSN was up.

Whenever I go to launch it it says "could not connect to server to verify license"

Why didn't Sony/MS just block all IPs originating from China in these instances? Are the attacks on the same server that would decide whether an IP is allowed?

Well everything has been fine for 5 hours for me in Canada on psn. Hope the same for everyone else.

Also hope no lingering issues for new owners signing up during this. Or those who tried odd things to sign in and or play.

This LizardSquad vs FinestSquad video is appalling, almost as appalling that Microsoft and Sony had a 3 day warning and still didn't stop this one guy.

Because they don't all stem from China or Russia or where ever. The infected IP's come from everywhere. From what I understand that's how it works. Actually, I was thinking the same thing originally.

Hm, that website that shows you the known attacks mostly came from China, I'm sure if it was possible they would have done it. There must be more to it. I'm thinking that the server that dies is the one that does the blocking ect, and is being attack so bad it can't decide whether you're allowed through or not.

It sucks so much to keep seeing people say it's back, but when I go to try, all I get is:

The connection to the server has been lost
(NW-31194-8)

Worse still is the fact that I can't even play games offline.

I don't want to get too technical or into it, since it's complex, but it unfortunately isn't that easy.

Even if MS and Sony had three months, it wouldn't have mattered at all. In 2011, the average DDoS attack size was 1.4Gbps. These days, they're hitting 400Gbps at the baseline, amplified to much higher due to how these things can cascade and be made to have servers attack themselves. Very few people - perhaps only Google and Amazon, have the infrastructure to mitigate an attack of that size. Sony uses one of the world's top DDoS mitigation companies, www.prolexic.com, for their DDoS mitigation. And they couldn't handle it.

It's like putting up a shield to deflect a brick, since all attacks were bricks for the last four years, and suddenly they drop a mall on you. Oh sure, you might have invested in a bigger shield, or a whole bunch, just in case. But it is still a mall. You could have, if you had imagined it, bought a shield so big it would deflect even a mall. But that would have cost an insane amount of money to prevent what *might* happen. There is a risk factor in DDoS mitigation, where you can't overspend against hypotheticals, or you go bankrupt.

I don't know if it's been posted here but it seems like anonymous got the leader of lizard squad:

This is all likely a farce, dude. It's very likely that Anon, LizardSquad, Lulzsec, Finest - are all the same handful of people putting up a nice dog and pony show to laugh at us with.

We already know Jord is not the leader of LizardSquad. Just some attention troll.

It has been working for me since 2 hours ago , playing Garden warfare now....it seems the "attack" is over.... PS4 Mexico...

Anyone can go to Twitter right now, and make an account like @TheRealLizardSquad and @Anon4Real and @FunnestSquad and post "RT this to make the DDoS stop and have us DDoX Lizard", and watch the likes/favs/RTs/follows roll in. Because knee-jerk reactions on Twitter are idiotic. And many people *are* making these kinds of accounts, with easily faked screenshots of DM conversations (you can do those yourself in Chrome), faked FB posts, private messages, etc.

Look at how many people fall for fake "parody" accounts of actors and such. Hell, look at how many people still fall for The Onion, Clickhole, or National Report.

Why do news outlets even bother, they get so much wrong so why even bother in the first place. lol

Because on the internet, news outlets don't care about the facts, they care about hits/clicks and retention. Gotta be first, gotta be there the second it happens, so that you're the first site that pops up when someone searches for info on an event.

Everyone just links to everyone else, and rewrites it as if it's their own research.

All of this e-peen bullshit is fucking stupid.

So what was the point of all of this? Honestly?

The point was to press a button, and watch the internet go crazy. That's what they did, and that is what happened. And now, many are trying to get their 15 minutes while the attention is on them, like that KimDotCom tool who is now, and will be for weeks to come, credited with "saving christmas for gamers", even though he accomplished nothing.

Perhaps what the point of all this should be, is people realizing a) when they're being taken for a ride, b) how problematic the internet's infrastructure is that things like this can happen and c) reflect a little on the society we live in, where this kind of thing happens
