NYPD cop throws man to the ground after spotting him doing Ellen Degeneres’ ‘dance dare’

An online “prankster” was berated and thrown to the ground by New York City police while participating in one of talk show host Ellen Degeneres’ “dance dares,” the Free Thought Project reported.

The victim, who identifies himself as Alexander BOK, posted footage on his YouTube channel of the encounter, which shows several officers crowding around BOK, with one asking him, “Are you f*cking kidding me, bro? Are you a f*cking a*shole?”

BOK explains in another video that he approached the officer from behind as part of a “dance dare” Degeneres made to her viewers earlier this month.

“I challenge the viewers to sneak up behind perfect strangers, to dance behind them without them knowing it,” Degeneres said on her show. Previous “dance dares” have featured pregnant viewers, as well as viewers dancing at the Golden Gate Bridge and in front of JCPenney stores, among other settings.

BOK subsequently shot footage of himself dancing behind strangers inside Grand Central Station. In one scene, he dances behind a pair of officers without being caught, seemingly without incident.

But when he approaches the other officer from behind a police vehicle, the encounter quickly escalates. The officer approaches him and asks, “What’s wrong with you, bro?” as two more officers immediately join him. The officer backs BOK into the vehicle and places his hand on his chest. BOK is turned around and seemingly frisked.

At that point, a message appears on the screen saying, “After explaining what we were doing they kept going, insulting me … After endless attempts, realizing they cannot arrest me… they threw me on the ground.”

The officer is then seen behind BOK, telling him, “Take a f*cking walk” before throwing him to the ground, causing his microphone to cut out.

The relationship between the NYPD and residents has increased since a grand jury decided not to indict one officer, Daniel Pantaleo, in connection with the death of Eric Garner this past July.

Garner’s death was ruled a homicide by chokehold by the medical examiner’s office. More recently, police have criticized and protested against Mayor Bill de Blasio, saying he had taken the side of the “Black Lives Matter” demonstrations, which have accused police of using excessive force.

Here's the video:

With this and them turing their backs on Mayor de Blasio and booing him, the NYPD are showing that they're just a bunch of immature, oversensitive, violent punks.

And the dancer is brown. Go figure.

The amount of times bro is said really made me cringe.

Edit: Twice, I guess. lol. Thought he said it more than that :/

which GAFer is this just coming from the NY Nintendo Store? Maybe they witnessed this event!

But seriously, this is gross. How fucking gross are those police?

As dumb as the cops are I'm sure there are 10s of thousands of other non-cop assholes in NYC that'll fight you or some stupid crap just for dancing next to them.

I can't breath right now.

NYPD is just getting out of hand, I feel like 41 shots have been fired in a dark hallway where a disoriented man left me to bleed out while he texted his rep to make sure everything is alright.

NYPD say's it's my gun but I'm pretty sure they just planted it when they noticed my dehumanizing stares.

Blackout!

Doing that at the cop's blind spot?
Dont behave like a jackass trying to provoke the police, dont get thrown on the ground

No. This is not a valid justification for the actions in the video. An appropriate response would be for a single officer to berate the guy and send him on his way. Not for at least 4 guys to corner and hurl insults at him before pushing him over. FOR DANCING.

The cops are assholes here, especially with how they cursed him out and threw him on the ground...but common sense should tell you NEVER get behind a cop and act stupid or weird especially after two NYPD cops were shot to death and another NYPD cop was struck with a hatchet over the head, barely surviving.

All these guys are in a bad mood, leave them the fuck alone.

To be fair, if you are the cop and see something behind you moving frantically that suddenly acts as though they weren't doing anything when you turn around... I'd be upset too. He's lucky they didn't pull a gun on him.

That said, there's no reason they had to throw him to the ground at the end.

Maybe the video will become popular enough for Ellen to have him on the show.

I agree that it wasn't a smart move to do that near cops but the cops didn't need to do that at all (curse and throw him on the ground). Just could have told him to leave/move to a different area.

Oh shit dude. Enjoy your ban!

This is obviously completely uncalled for and those police officers are assholes, but is that music really necessary? You would think Sephiroth just killed Aeris or something. And the limping afterwards? lol get real man. You're fine.

Do we really have a defense for people being assaulted by the police for dancing?

He's not defending the cops, but what do you think is going to happen when you do that to cops that are already on edge? Do you not recall 2 cops got snuck up on and shot a few weeks ago?

He's not defending the cops
Yes he is.

but what do you think is going to happen when you do that to cops that are already on edge?
Did you not read the article? He did it with a bunch of people, to get on television, including other cops who managed not to attack him. Stop trying to normalize police brutality, it's sick.

"What are you dancing in the streets for?!"

I wish I wasn't such a smartass and cops weren't such assholes, because that's just asking for someone to respond, "But it's the new sensation..."

The problem with a lot of these discussions is the dividing line between the amount of leeway we want to give police to properly ensure nothing bad is going on and the amount of overreach they are showing by acting the way they are.

For example, let's say we agree that this guy shouldn't have been dancing in the officer's blind spot. In fact, I'd even say I understand the premise: not because dancing behind officer's is wrong, but because right now tensions are so high that people might overreact.

But, there is a far cry from understanding that - and then perhaps saying the officer had a right to question him politely - from saying the officer had a right to call four other officers over, bully and intimidate the guy, curse him into submission and then literally push him to the ground after they find no crime.

Their job should have stopped at politely questioning him to determine if a crime is committed. After that, they are completely in the wrong.

This guy is ZERO TO BLAME for the cops abusing their position to once again berate and assault a man innocent of any crimes.

There was a cop in the car. He saw the dude dancing. He could of told his buddy "hey man, I saw him, he was just dancing. Let him go."

Instead they all pile on him like he made a gun gesture with his hand behind the cop. Bok dude explained himself and poses no threat. No reason so shove him or treat him this way.

Perfectly put.

I'm not. Those cops had no clue what this guy's intentions were though.

Good for this guy though. He is probably gonna get on Ellens show and get his 15 seconds of fame via social media. That couldn't have happened any better for him personally. I feel sorry for all the people who get that treatment and will never be heard from.
