Oprah Winfrey is no longer the world’s richest black woman. That distinction now belongs to Nigerian oil baroness and fashionista Folorunsho Alakija.

Alakija is worth at least $3.3 billion — about $300 million more than American television personality Oprah — Ventures Africa reports.

The 62-year-old started her career as a secretary at the erstwhile Merchant Bank of Nigeria, but moved to England in the early 1980s to study fashion design. She then returned to her native country and set up a high-end label called Supreme Stitches.

Although she amassed some wealth from the label, a significant proportion of Alakija’s fortune comes from an oil-exploration license granted to her company Famfa Ltd. in 1993. The 617,000-acre oil block would go on to become the highly lucrative OML 127, in which Alakija’s family retains a 60% stake.

According to Ventures Africa, her assets include a real estate portfolio worth over $100 million and a $46 million private jet.

The local barrister from the world money human fund contacted me about this $3.3 billion, apparantly they are working diligently with our president mr obama to divert funds to me direct, because this woman has a relative in America who needs the money. In order to procure this money I have to send $50,000 to his account to help with international transaction fees, but then I get $300,000,000 as a finders fee.

Perhaps to highlight the achievements of non-white races and women who have been treated as second class citizens through most of history. Maybe, I'm not sure.

But won't they really stop being considered second class citizens when their achievements will be considered regardless of their skin color or their sex ?

In the case of Folorunsho Alakija and Oprah maybe but of the 10 richest women, 9 inherited their fortunes from their fathers or husbands. Not exactly a great achievement.
 
I wonder does this take into account the fact fact that the price of oil has dropped like a stone? Also, how corrupt do you have to be to actually be"granted" a legitimate Nigerian oil license?

Nigeria is corrupt. My dad goes on about it. Apparently the whoever is in government at the time can give people oil licences like this. Majority of the richest people in Nigeria obtain their money this way

Exceptions that prove the rule. You really think all people of color, minorities, even women receive anywhere near the level of proper treatment some of those "figureheads" do? Don't let a couple of people like Oprah and Obama be representative of the entire race, for one. Or do Bill Gates and Donald Trump likewise quantify the entire white population as a bunch of rich, lap-of-luxury-living dorks?
