Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

Well what I can say from playing this BETA it's going to be 5x better than Destiny's gunplay. I was really nervous that 343 would mess this up, but they haven't. The core gameplay is really really good, it takes a lot of skill to get good at this and I'm enjoying it, even though i'm getting hammered all the time!

Destiny took about 3 hours to pick up and get good at, i've sunk nearly 10hours into this and I still suck compared to other people. I'm having fun whilst sucking too though which is the main thing.

Only thing I want to disappear is Smart-Link

I got your point and I agree.

This game is an absolute blast. It's in a better state than MCC, which is really unfortunate. It will most likely be a day 1 buy for me

Still feeling really hit and miss with this. Sometimes I'll have decent team mates and post up great scores and enjoy it. Other times I'll have people that can't shoot to save their lives and rage at it. Enjoying the BR starts more though.

the game's definitely a different experience when you have temamates that can set up and respond to callouts. i managed to have some decent games on Eden with a team of 4.

i'm still not a fan of the gameplay though. once people start abusing the abilities, the holes open up and the game slows down to a crawl. for all that talk about a faster pace with more movement abilities, the game is ironically more campy.

the maps need powerups and better weapon placement to stimulate movement.

The game is really about team mates. If you're playing with noobs you'll hate it

But if you have a great team you'll enjoy it. Nobody likes to lose anyways

BR starts is always the best! Better than the silly Over-powered AR.

Power weapons need to spawn more frequently.

I've never liked BR starts in previous Halos, so I also don't like it here. I just prefer classic Halo with AR and pistol to start, BR starts changes the gameplay into more of a ranged battle where auto-aim and bullet curve takes over a little too much for my tastes.

I don't really get "abusing the abilities" part? The only camping I have seen is with the hydra on regret.

Damn, it seems like at least once every game somebody manages to shoot and detonate the grenade that I had just thrown. It's kind of ridiculous honestly.

I don't know who it was that explained how all the covenant maps are rounded, but they're right and it bugs the hell out of me. doorways now have little bumps that stop you from backpedaling and the viewing angles are obscured. It's a pain in the ass.

most of my games with a team have been against sweaty onyx players who know how to thrust out of danger all the time. seeing more and more games not reach the score limit because there's no incentive to be aggressive.

yeah, all the maps (aside from the breakout ones) needs some editing to remove little odd bumps that interfere with movement. i've been hung up on slight things constantly. i suppose we'd adjust and learn where these things are with more time, but it makes for some unnecessary early frustration.

If anyone has suggestions for questions and their attached options, post them. I'm trying to make a pretty comprehensive survey that covers all the bases and all possible opinions of the halo population.

You can't consistently bounce grenades off of anything in that map because of how weirdly curved every piece of geometry is. Bungie's Covenant architecture didn't have many straight lines, but at least they used mostly pretty based shapes for environments. Maps like Heretic or Zealot for instance had a bunch of flat walls while still maintaining that organic Covenant look. Plus, the walls that weren't flat were at least linearly curved so it was easier to predict where you grenades would go if you tried to bounce some off of them.

And now we've got 343's Covenant geometry where every wall is a mess of constantly changing shapes and zero consistency. Really makes it less easy to consistently bounce grenades off walls the same way. Makes playing on the Covenant maps a bit messier than I'd like it to be, especially on Regret.

The curved aesthetic also makes Clamber inconsistent - unless you're already really up there, it's difficult to gauge whether or not your clambering will even take you over certain surfaces, in particular the Bend dividers on Truth.

Haha, damn try hards.

Went against a lot of teams on Breakout that camped the back of their side and never pushed up. It was the most boring thing ever with them playing super defensively. Kinda funny though as we were still able to beat them by pulling off some good flanks and lucky hail marry grenades.

Really enjoying the beta minus some balance issues. I use to be one of the guys screaming for "traditional halo" but after playing halo 2 / 3 again I find it slow and plodding. The one thing those things do great still, for me, is fantastic maps, map control and balanced equal loadouts. Glad they are going for this in Halo 5. Assuming they can put out some great maps and balance it a bit more I think this will be a great return to form for the series on a competitive level.

Yeah I know, I feel the same about CoD unless I play FFA too. Halo 2 it didn't really matter for me as I could just hunt for kills and only worry about whether my opponent had a better shot than me, this it's nearly impossible to kill two people together by yourself.

Lol You guys suffer more than us euro players as well!!!!

Nobody suffers like us, players from the middle east.

Yeah true. Most people plays the game alone like if every mode is Lone Wolves!

I would guess this will happen in the final release. Most likely the beta servers are only in the US for now for all the problems people are having.

The EU servers are up because I sometimes play on them.

The full MUST let us choose where we play! The game selecting them for us sucks big time.

I think BR starts have a massive effect on this as well, it's very difficult to be aggressive when anytime you move out of cover someone starts pinging you from across the map.

Oh, still trying to push forge variants in matchmaking instead of actual dev maps?

Pls stop

They should give community cartographers some map creating tool and let them do some maps. I'm pretty sure those people will come up with some really good maps.

And yeah, more grey forge maps... Who asked for that?

Agreed. BR starts sucked a lot of the energy out of games I've played. Especially those that were comprised of mainly randoms.
