Most "sweaty Onyx kids" are pretty bad with their 4-shot tbh.

considering how skewed the ranks are, it's not really a surprise.

I didn't know being good at a game means you're a try hard.

Just got back home after a few days away. Crack open the beta and try my hand at breakout, a little rusty and new gametype but it's all good, I'll get a match of new players too. Oh thanks game for matching me against two Onyx breakout players with Semi-Pro slayer ratings. How kind of you game. I totally won.

One thing I've noticed is that I've never ever used the ground pound during a match. I've also never seen anyone else use it. Seems like the start up takes too long to be useful.

I couldn't imagine ever really using it unless I was trying to be cocky and pull off an upsie downsie.

I use it quite frequently, it's satisfying as hell.

Edit: I think the upped the charge up time recently, it seems to more difficult to pull them off.
 
The ranking system is so broken it's really annoying me.

I'm Onyx for some reason. I'm getting destroyed every game, but sometimes my team wins (because of good players on my team), and sometime we lose because I die about 20 times a game. But because my team sometimes wins, sometimes loses, my rank isn't going down. Even though i'm clearly out of my league, and I feel like i'm losing every game. What am I supposed to do? Dying all the time isn't really that fun to be honest.

I've tried sticking with teammates etc but im just not very good with the BR. Was easier with the AR.
 
Oh, still trying to push forge variants in matchmaking instead of actual dev maps?

No kidding. This shit is so fucking lazy it hurts. I'm sure in meetings they say things like, "It'll show the community what they can achieve with Forge!" But in reality, we're left with some garbage, low effort maps more often than not no one wants to play.

If you play badly and lose you should lose lots of points, if you play badly but you win you should gain only a few points.

And vice versa with playing well. This would massively reduce grind and would also mean that the ranking system takes your actual skill into account, like it should do.

In slayer, it's very situational but it is useful. It's also a risk because you never know when someone is going to move. IMO, that's exactly how it should be. It shouldn't be something that is spammed all of the time for cheap kills.

In Breakout, it isn't useful at all.

Don't expect pros to use it because of its high risk factor.
 
Both maps, Orion and Pegasus, look meh. Hopefully Forge has some incredible options to stay away from the gray and green that plagues Forge maps. They (Certain Affinity) did a really solid job with H2A's Forge so hopefully 5 can expand on that.

Ranking system should only take into account your skill in a team. Stuff like bad/good teammates won't matter in the long term. There is a reason why LoL, Dota 2 and CSGO don't take personal performance into account.

H2A's forge palette was the worst one.

I agree. Last night I was losing points when getting a 2.0+ K/D just because my team lost . . .and I'm just silver.

We've argued about the ranking system enough that it's going to start going in circles so I really can't be bothered, I was just pointing out another flaw in the current system.
 
The EU servers are up because I sometimes play on them.

The full MUST let us choose where we play! The game selecting them for us sucks big time.

But Halo 5 is literally 2 different games with and without lag. The Halo 5 with lag is arguably one of the worst multiplayer games I've ever played. The Halo 5 without lag is almost as good as Titanfall for me.
 
Except it's not a flaw. It's how the most succesful MP games do it.

I feel dumb when i try to figure out how the ranking even works... I'll click on people with a higher rank only to sometimes find less time played, less wins, worse accuracy, worse kda... i just don't understand it at all. What the hell am I missing?? Why are these people ranked higher?

I mean I'm not mad, it's a beta and I don't care where i rank. I just don't understand how people with worse records can be ranked much higher than me.

The ranking system completely ignores a players performance.

Yep the difference is unbelievable. This is probably the best multiplayer game that I have played when on EU servers. Anything else and it ius fucking horrible.

Though I wonder how many unique 4vs4 maps we are going to get in between these remixes and forge variants.

On another note, god that new RL is terribly generic looking and horrible in the sound department.
 
I've had this error for a week and I haven't been able to play.

"Error retrieving data center connection. Please restart the Halo 5 Multiplayer Beta."

Still doesn't work. Any thoughts on how to fix it?
 
I hope there is an FFA Slayer, I hated that they took that out in Halo 4...

343i added a Competitive Skill Ranked FFA Rumble Pit playlist to the permanent playlist in Halo 4 back in early 2013. So while a FFA playlist wasn't there at launch, they added it pretty early on. I guess you were part of the mass exodus shortly after launch. ;-). IMO, Halo 4 multiplayer get pretty good after 343i made some changes.

Halo 5 is one of the worst, most frustrating experiences I've ever had with lag.

343i needs to do A LOT of work to ensure that players are always able to play in the datacenter closest to them.

If the game ships like it is now, or like TMCC is, I'll be passing on it.

Seriously man, enough already with the small circular maps. This is only the beta and it's already getting old.

Sprint will never work in a game that has long TTK. It works in cod because the engagements a so fast no one will be able to just sprint away. Sprint is a even bigger issue with BR starts then AR starts. AR starts promote more close range encounters witch makes it a bit more difficult to sprint away. BR starts are mostly long range encounters witch makes it much easier to boost and sprint away after a player getting the first shot on you. That is the biggest problem. If someone gets the jump on me I just boost and sprint away. I should have to engage that player and win or loose the battle. A smart player wont chase kills so its as if the engagement never happened. Sprint slows the game down. Anther issue is that the player that is trying to put shots on has to stop sprinting to shoot while the person sprinting away can run indefinitely.

In other words its Bad Game Design.

The sprint affect has to be balanced with every aspect of the game even if it means changing Halo to accommodate it. Map size, map design, player engagements, weapons, shields, and the speed of the overall game play. My question is why go though so much effort to balance a game around something that has never been needed in the past. I was at the St Louis UGC event this weekend and watched the most exciting and balanced Halo I have every seen. No sprint needed.

i do wonder why red team was on the bottom of the map though, but i don't think being in position to finish kills with team shot excuses the abilities. Reach created the exact same problem of necessary team shooting when one player completely removes themselves from an unfavorable encounter at the press of a button, requiring a teammate to finish them off.

i don't remember the halo 4 thruster being so forgiving.
 
I'm still enjoying it but yeah, variety is the lifeblood of Halo.
There are only so many times I can play Team Slayer with the same settings before burning out.

I need Objective, BtB, Action Sack, etc...

This ranking system is baffling at times. I went 23-8 but we still lost, whatever... Then I realize I just lost 90 points off my rank from that one match....

The dude missed his headshots and they got away, how is that a bad thing?

^ That just means you deranked to the next tier, you didn't actually lose that many points according to Menke's post here on GAF. Your K/D has nothing to do with your ranking, wins and losses, all that matters.

Awesome new medal: Airborne Snapshot

Also, hallelujah the sniper headshot medal is back. Although it's pretty plain and boring, should have stuck with something similar to the previous games (usually a gold five pointed star with crosshairs in the middle). It's one of the more rewarding medals you can get so it should stand out.
