do you have a gif of the PS1 era sales?

Amazing. When they go for the inevitable price cut this year, it will be interesting to see how much more they can sell. Its even more amazing when you realize how slack, so to speak, Sony's first party has been.

After a mediocre 2014, I am looking forward to 2015. Well done Sony.

That is a lot of consoles. Does not seem like Sony needed a price cut at all.... at least not at the rate it is currently selling. Kudos.

Microsofts Holiday sales already sold be a Xbone. I knew they would raise the price, but after these numbers it is still surprising they did raise it back up.

slightly disappointing numbers since they didn't hit 20m but they still did great. not the best ever but these numbers show a very healthy market.

Not the best ever? PS4 has broken every record so far IIRC.

But yeah, not the best ever. lol

PS4 is tracking way ahead of PS2. I don't think it'll get to 155m, but they'd need to fuck up badly to not go over 100m sold.

I can't see the XB1 selling 50m at all. There's only real interest for it in the USA and that's significantly muted compared to the interest that was in the 360. And before you say "but the 360 was a slow starter", Xbox is now an established brand. It should be flying out of the gates like the PS4 or the Wii.

Pretty much this, the more momentum the PS4 gets the more it will eat up potential XB1 sales. I can't see many casual gamers choosing the XB1 as their only system outside of the US. I thought Sony would do well to pull even in the US, never thought they would comfortably outsell MS there.

This makes me want to buy another PS2. Like seriously. I have a launch unit that's still kicking, but maybe I should get a new one for back-up down the road. That whole era was golden.

It just makes me sad that consoles will never be that cool again. 4 great systems that were pretty much all completely different from on another in their offerings.

Wii was heavily supply costrained, though. If it had bigger shipments, it would've done quite better. PS4 isn't in that situation (I know it has been mentioned Europe could have suffered shortages problems, but Wii was suffering WW). Still, even if it's now behind the Wii, this is a very good result, hardware wise.

Do we have a good recap of tie-ratios for consoles at the same time after the release?

Yeah well considering the typical PS console sales curve vs. Wii's I think it's safe to assume PS4 will make a comeback against Wii in a few years ;)

It took 5 years for the GameCube and OG Xbox to sell around 25 million units lifetime. And now the PS4 in 13 months is a stone throw away from 20 million.

That's ridiculous.

This just confirms what I already knew... this generation is over, better luck next time Microsoft and Nintendo.

- The Xbone will be lucky to have these numbers this time next year

- The Wii U will never reach this number

We still can't quite cut the X1 out. It may never "win" but it'll be a serious player for the generation. But yeah, everyone knew the Wii U was never going to hit anything close to this. No surprise there.

Neither system is getting close to 100m without dropping under $150.

Playstation 3 had a nightmare start and is on about 85m without going even remotely close to $150. In a post Apple world, the price tag doesn't matter anywhere near as much.

Hopefully this gives publishers -particularly those owning or working with Japanese developers- the confidence they haven't exactly been showing in abundance since this generation started.

Konami, you for one have nothing to worry about now.

Yo, Uncharted ain't even out yet, lol. Just realized that... Uncharted, son!

Bloodborne should give a decent spike, too. This year is going to be nuts.

Sony trying to the good news out in front of a potentially underwhelming NPD month?

NPD doesn't come out for another 10 days....

Would be kinda dumb to do it so early. You would probably want to do it a day before, and collect a couple more sales before announcing it.
