who's that?
Satya Nadella
Microsoft Corporation's CEO since February 2014.
who's that?
you don't know that yet. we have to wait for january's npd numbers and we haven't even gotten december's.
Sony will probably be reaching 40m by the end of holiday season 2015.
who's that?
We'll see, but I think it's likely. December is huge and there's a 5 week gap.
They have sold 14.2M in 2014. In 2015 they will most likely reach up to 16, but that is not enough to push them to 40M. They will hit that by the summer of 2016.
I doubt they will hit 40m. I think if they hit 35m, they will be crazy happy.
Wow, sony is doing well!! 20 million by Q2 at this rate!
Imagine after bloodborne and price cut! Wooo boy

And when whould we be hearing this announcement? I mean, if MS had shipped 10M at start of December (making shipments of Jan-Nov 2014 total 6.1M), by when should they have added two million to this?
I REALLY don't think they got 2 million more consoles out in five weeks to retailers.
Does anyone know how the long the Unity bundles are going to last?
That sounds more reasonable, although I asume that 35m is the - very - best case scenario. I guess final numbers will be around 30m, because unless the PS4 looses sales momentum there is just no need for a significant global price cut. MS on the other hand will surely lower the One`s price tag on a global scale in 2015, which will result in a hard time for Sony in the important US and UK core markets. In that case, I'll place 40m as the best case scenario and 35m as the minimum.
That seems to be very unlikely. They will very likely reach 20m after their FY 2015, but further 20m not before late 2016, unless they reduce the PS4's price tag significantly.

They were a holiday bundle only while supplies lasted. They still have stock left over I guess.
Is it true WiiU is trending behind Dreamcast?
Except for the most important part. The solid gameplay mechanics.
The fact that these games opted for a more realistic look does not make them westernized. The Souls series is the only one that fits the criteria and even then it's mechanics are different from western titles.

I really doubt that.well they should only be proud once microsoft announces their numbers. i don't think their that far off.
the gaps definitely closed a little in 2014.
I am really not a fan of the term "no games" for any system. It is simply not true. Perhaps it doesn't have games you want to play, but it does have games. PS4 will have more first party games released in the first half of 2015 and probably the remainder of the year. But that doesn't negate what the X1 will receive.Yeah.. Xbox One at 399 with no games is going to be a tough sell.

Maybe he meant the package itself.
I think he means XB1 at $399 with no bundled games, like the deals they've been running the past couple months.
Well in that case, I stand corrected.Pretty sure they just meant bundled games
It's my bad for misunderstanding you. Sorry.Sorry. I was referring to no bundled games.
The AC Unity bundle will be gone soon.
You think they will only sell 1.5M in 3 months WW?
Sony sold over 14M PS4 this year, you expect them to only sell 11.5M in 2015 to reach 30M LTD? With the big games coming out and a potential price cut, there is no way they gonna sell less than 2014.
Not "only". "At least" is what I suggest. They sold around 2m PS4s in the first quarter of 2014. Even with The Order and Bloodborne around the corner I do not see a sigificant higher performance this year, as the last quarter of 2014 was dominated by holiday discounts all over the place.

Yes. I do. Because I learned not to include hypothetical price drops in my calculations, only the status quo and given external effects (I actually earn my money with stuff like that, but given estimations of other "experts" like Mr. Pachter show that this does not mean my estimations are any better than yours).
The availability of more games one year later could certainly compel more people to purchase consoles than the year before.
December is much bigger than than any of those early months(Jan-Oct). They had 5 weeks from that time to ship another 2 million. I definitely think it's likely with how high December sales are unless you believe they really overstuffed the channel(by Dec. 3). They most likely got another shipment in for Christmas or shortly after. It's not like they're going to sell 0 consoles in January either.
Based on what we know from US/UK/France. The console ratio elsewhere would have to be much lower than previously thought for them to have not shipped around 12 million. Look at some of my posts from yesterday for more info.
I think they'll announce it when NPDs are released and feel free to come back to this post.
Honestly, the lowest I can see it being is 11.5 million which would still be around my prediction of 12. Just for fun, what would you put it at?
Look, I am totally with you that 20m in March is very, very likely. But I do not see that Bloodborne or The Order will be able to move a significant number of additional consoles. And all other games have already been available since November.
Besides, the One's price tag is not the only one back on pre-holiday level. The PS4 was also heavily discounted (due to freebies) but not in the year before. That means that PS4 sales were also pressed forward, resulting in lower sales after the discount.
Last I heard it was.Is it true WiiU is trending behind Dreamcast?
If Sony knows that to be the case then they'll cut the price just to prevent that scenario from playing out. That sounds more reasonable, although I asume that 35m is the - very - best case scenario. The trend already reversed in the UK.
When you raise the price, sales are going to slow down. Consumers aren't dumb.
Never underestimate the power of PlayStation.I REALLY don't think they got 2 million more consoles out in five weeks to retailers.
Satya Nadella, Microsoft's new CEO (think he's been in role about a year). He's been leading a strong comeback for MS in that time as they focus on cloud services and platform strategy. He has somewhat left the Xbox division alone, but if he feels like it's not adding the value it should to the company's portfolio, he could foreseeable sell the division or repurpose it within the next 5 years. Total speculation at this point, but I would not be shocked to see some drastic changes within the next 5 years.
Never underestimate the power of PlayStation.
Last I heard it was.
And that's w/ DC being discontinued.
It's shameful, really. Sega's revenge and last laugh from beyond the grave x3.
If Sony knows that to be the case then they'll cut the price just to prevent that scenario from playing out.
In fact, I think Sony will cut their price first, so MS will be forced to go lower than they'd like just to be "cheaper", and that would cut into 360 sales significantly.
$299 PS4 by September. $249 XBO by November.
XB1 didn't get a price cut in the UK tho ... and PS4 beat it in December.
