Windows 10: The Next Chapter - Media Briefing Details (Phil Spencer speaking)

DirectX says NO.

Okay, well sure. But when you look at support for DX10 (originally exclusive on Vista) versus DX9 or DX11, it's much lower. I'd imagine that since most of the consoles use DX11, that not many PC games would hop over to an exclusive strain of DirectX (assuming it would be locked behind Windows 10), if less users are on it; at least not for a long while.

I dunno. I just don't think there's all that much cause for concern.

Closing down Windows basically kills it. Microsoft won't do it. I think a Windows Store is fine to a point, not being a dictating feature for all software. Microsoft are more interested in keeping people within the ecosystem whatever platform it may be, not limiting their freedom to do stuff on the Windows OS. It might make the user experience a bit better for some users by having a safe store for popular applications. Best of both worlds is the only right outcome.

As for a Windows OS subscription, jog the fuck on Microsoft. Not having any of that.

All I hope is with this new UI for XB1 they keep snap but optimize it and make it faster because I like snap but its so slow with external (downloaded) apps like twitch

You don't lose your blessed exclusives. They would be exclusive to the windows platform. PC and Xbox are the Windows platform. You can continue to wave your phallus of exclusives and numberwang away should you choose. The only other way I can put it, is to say Xbox games are still Xbox games - Windows is the platform on which you play Xbox games - Xbox One is still an Xbox game player.

Chances are the "One Store" is the only place to get the games anyway, and PC gamers will be hesitant at that likely only picking up exclusive titles via that service, which again bodes well for the platform.

Your complaints about owning a "$500 low end PC" are your own doing, as is true with almost any device where policies change, tech changes, modes of payment and distribution change, all at the behest of the platform owner, in this case Microsoft.

Again it's all a hypothetical anyway

In your scenario fewer Xbox Ones would be sold. Meaning fewer 3rd party game sales that they get a cut of.

Is that like how we all hoped the 360 dashboard would be faster but it never happened.

The rumor was for windows 7 users since its end of life and they want everyone on a unified platform.

I hope that's true. I held off updating my gaming PC to win 8. Sunset Overdrive Win10 would be interesting too, I wonder what will be announced dealing with Xbox One. If PC and Xbox One become one platform that would be weird and interesting hah.

Major Nelson tweeted to this new account that follows him and Xbox only.. unannounced project for the event ??

PCEDF..hm....and that picture in the background?

OK, that's it I'm calling it. It looks like Locust armor considering the medieval-ish theme, possibly a drone. Or a human wearing locust-style armor.

They will reveal Gears of War 4 taking place on Emergence Day and I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that it will even be from the Locust's perspective this time (Myrrah will definitely be involved.) or at the very least there'll be a mode to play as them. Oh, and it will come out on both PC and Xbox One available for purchase in the Windows 10 AppStore.

Drop the hammer on me if I'm wrong.

I figure PC gamers really do not get the same treatment as Console gamers at E3. It seems like a new windows release deserves it own train. So lets do this!!

Nah my man we don't call it Metro any more... It's a modern windows app... A windows store app... A... Wait I lost track.

Also since win10 will seemingly be on all devices, even phone owners will be part of the glorious pc master race mwahahaha.

You're worried that win10 will block "click to download" from websites? Or have I misunderstood?
I am extremely worried that Windows 10 will be a second step on a long and very gradual (think of the frog) path towards making Windows PCs devices akin to smartphones, where the vast majority of users can only be reached through cryptographically signed, "approved" and licensing-fee-incurring channels.

Can I grab a seat? Then a few days before the event, when the hype reaches astronomical levels, I can resell my seat and use that money to buy a second gtx 970!

Read the previous posts, that would not be the case at all. In fact it would be the opposite. The "One Store" is still microsoft, windows and xbox

Windows is open. 3rd parties will still sell on steam or any other store or no store at all. In that way, MS gets zero from those sales.

Why give up sales on a platform where you have no competition from other stores (Xbox) to a platform where you have a ton of competition?
