Windows 10: The Next Chapter - Media Briefing Details (Phil Spencer speaking)

Interesting for both XBOX and PC?
I fear it can only be complete and utter trash...

Maybe they just meant equally interesting. Meaning really boring and disappointing.

Honestly, that's probably the best thing to hope for. A forced "One store", that is the only gateway to get new programms to run on Win10, sounds distopian, even by MS "standards".

Hoping for some kind of game streaming support between XBO and PC. Would be very happy to have XBO act as the lounge room extension of my PC not just for media but for many games as well. Would make having a windows based PC for steam streaming redundant if it was well supported. A legit steam app on XBO would be pretty amazing too.

I am extremely worried that Windows 10 will be a second step on a long and very gradual (think of the frog) path towards making Windows PCs devices akin to smartphones, where the vast majority of users can only be reached through cryptographically signed, "approved" and licensing-fee-incurring channels.

Hopefully the worst it will get is be similar to android where you have to go into the options to enable "allow unknown sources". I guess Mac OS is already pretty much doing this where they have a whitelist of approved non-app store developers and won't let you install many applications without first going into your security settings.

It would still be shitty for people who are new to the PC though.

That train will crash and burn. To many high hopes..do i need to re quote what i did a few pages ago?

Thats just crazy talk. We are going to learn all about the cool features for Windows 10 at this event. I highly doubt it will be a let down.

Get me on it dude. I want a whole door to myself. Looking forward to this as much as e3!

How about a large Window? lol

I will be Shocked if we do not see some thing like that. Steam Streaming app on Xbox would be a megaton though.

He keeps talking about Xbox and Win10 gaming. Reiterated during the little video they released for the end of year results. I didn't really think they had much going on in that front, but maybe they do.

All I ask of them is to have no fucking ideas of another gaming store or service.
They should just partner with Valve once and for all and try to push PC Gaming forward.

If they can find a way to tie Origin Steam and all the other services into one front end i would be happy. Does not have to be a store at all for me.

Features like Windows 8.1 i never use? it's cool to upgrade for free if it happens but that's about it. I never used Windows Store it's abomination anyway i have everything i need on my desktop. Since release of Windows 8 i used Classic Shell and being 100% on my desktop. If you want to get excited go ahead i suspect disappointment.

They had 10 years time and blew it even with new people ahead that boat sailed long long ago.

Windows 8.1 has great desktop only features that are not on other versions of windows. Also I never use classic shell. I dont need to be reminded what PCs were like back in 1995.

Still doesn't have decent start button hence why i am using classic shell. Still a lot of stuff from windows 8 is still in there. It's a great OS but horrible made with tablet and phone design in there mind for a desktop that people have been using since the beginning of windows. Sure it will change now with Windows 10 but they made a huge mistake because of a statistic was saying no body was using the start button but do not fix what isn't broken.

See I am a keyboard user. I hit the windows key for everything and just type away. Ill do the same thing in windows 10 also. Windows 8 lacked good mouse support.

OneDrive integration is worth the price of entry alone for me.

Sadly they are changing it.... Hopefully they make it better.

I prefer the mouse as i always did goes also double so fast with a click of a button. And i didn't have any problem with the mouse support in windows 8 except the mouse fix for gaming but that was resolved very fast.

When I say mouse support I mean the start menu. Keyboard users hit the windows key and type the app they want. Mouse users hit the window key and want to go through folders and select the app they would like to use. I still use a mouse for most other things but keyboard short cuts are much faster.

That's why not only me but a lot more installed Classic Shell start menu also going to desktop when starting up with Windows 8 when it was released. Everything i need is on my desktop like it always was. Also using Total Commander since the 90's on windows is better then anything else to search what you need.

I also liked the suggestion in this thread to make the Xbox One a streaming box of PC games to the TV.
I like that a lot, it manages to kill Steamboxes in a swift manner before they can even come to life.

How does it kill steam boxes? I would rather pay for one of the cheap streaming solution in the $99 range than pay $349 for a console I'd only use for streaming PC games. The folks that want a dedicated pc lounge machine still have steam machines as a possibility too.

I bite the bullet and want to enter the hype train please!
Hopefully this train doesn't hold at "Disappointment Metro" and goes directly to "Deliver city".

Ohh yes believe me it has been noticed and discussed ;-) I believe the team just put out a blog post about the roadmap but better not say more incase that was internal only (fairly sure it was public but better safe than sorry)

You have no idea how happy this makes me lol. I love One Drive when putting together all my podcasts. I have everyone upload to one drive for a backup. Its perfect.

Steamachines have two objectives:

1) Living room console/PC
2) Streaming full games from a Windows Steam installation.

Xbox can do both and with an exclusive library that can complement the Windows PC games.

I would prefer Steamboxes to latch on since I'm a Valve fanboy, but I'm just throwing ideas here.

You also have to add on all the Media features that Xbox One does way better than any Steam Machine.

I'd like a spot on the hype train, please.

I ask that the Xbox One stream its games to my Windows 10 installation, and that Windows 10 seamlessly streams its entire desktop to my Xbox One lag-free.

I would like Windows 10 to allow for duplication of its desktop (and/or extended mode) across all five of my gpu's outputs.

Oh, and I'd like a pony, too, but perhaps I'm asking for too much already.

You'd have to wait and see on that one. There are a bunch of media playback and streaming features on the way according to steamdb. Whether they'll actually be good is the question.

Add me to the hype train. If I'm totally honest though, people telling MS to embrace Steam instead of them pushing their own game DD competitor make me smh. How could you not want digital distribution competitors? EA for example has already given value to Origin in having a service that actually has competent customer service and a fucking return policy. Microsoft bringing their own Xbox gaming client to Windows could open the door to another distribution competitor with an actual customer service setup that would ideally take away from Steam.

I hope they can get Xbox streaming to phones as well as PC.

If they are going the united platform route, the best thing they could do would be to support streaming across the entirety of Windows 10. Assuming its on everything, it should allow for back and forth streaming between PC Xbox and phones
