Explain to me how Phil Spencer is NOT the problem?

Can you give some examples? What did you learn from them?
Phil Spencer is just a typical frat boy with huge ego willing to spend a lot of money to prove silly things. He is basically a forum-level fanboy in charge of the whole division. His subordinates are hardly brighter, because really savyy people was pushed out from Xbox long time ago.

The point of an executive is that they are accountable if something goes wrong. They are not just there to be liked and only appear when they have something to say that makes them look good or feel good.

Phil Spencer saved Xbox.

But in the sense of someone who swerves the car out of the way of another car in a pile-up, and then slams it into a tree and gets killed. He had no choice, no options, did the only thing he could, but only succeeded in taking a risk that extended the life of the thing he was trying to save and....

...it just died in a different way.

I do think Phil had some good ideas but yea his ability to tell a good game from a bad one is just horrible. The Halo stuff that Heisnberg mentioned. I also read he passed on Genshin Impact. How do you pass on Genshin Impact? It's a mobile game and a game that can be played on consoles and rips off Zelda. It also looks really good on both. I don't know what Mihoyo wanted but this was before they even became famous so I doubt they wanted much. It's just so shocking cause Xbox themselves wanted to get into mobile and here is a game that cross saves on both and he's like nah.

Mihoyo is also a China based company a market that is mostly PC so there is a real chance to break into it with a console that is cheaper for people wanting to save money and he just passed on it.

That what Phil saw, I guess.

GI is it's own thing with vastly different battle system.

Before Genshin there was a huge breakthrough in Asia for them called Honkai Impact 3rd (Star Rail is a direct sequel btw, though a very soft one).

The funny thing your post probably shows how MS felt about Hoyo during the Genshin pitch. Sony was very well informed who are they dealing with because they actually understand both Gacha market (Sony's own Fate is a big hit, through Sony Music though) and Asian markets in general. Zelda look-alike was probably the last reason why Sony grabbed Hoyo collab without a second thought and always supported them ever since Genshin Impact.
