NCAA restores Paterno's vacated wins

What exactly am I missing?

You're missing any number of posters who engaged your stupid comparison of JoePa's coverup to a college who had no connection to an alumnus at the time of his alleged crimes.

You're probably missing other things, but you haven't posted that much yet and the day is young.

As a pa resident I've always hated that school. If I had a choice I'd choose Ohio state over Penn state. The alumni are insane. They all buy blue or white cars and plaster Penn state stickers everywhere

The NCAA has no issues with the exploitation of young people. It's their bread and butter.

Its true. Notice when people normally get in trouble its for trying to get some money for themselves. Penn State however covered up child rape which is good for business as long as you don't get caught. NCAA is pretty much sending out the signal that if you try to cover up anything that would be bad for business they'll look after you. God help you if you try to get a few extra bucks as a student athlete.

It's could to see that they're not even trying to hide how morally bankrupt and corrupt of an organisation they are. Charming.

I posted this in another thread but I'll post it here too to make more awareness on people's downright stupidity.

Ok fuck everything. No seriously fuck EVERYTHING!

Deserved. Paterno was railroaded.
Too bad that couldn't have been done before he passed away in shame. RIP Joe Pa
Even if you want to believe JoePa was complicit, it doesn't take away the fact that those wins were earned by hundreds of young men who put in their blood, sweat, and tears to play for a great coach.

And this fucking gem right here.

There will come a time when the truth will be as clear to the ignorant individuals who bash Paterno as it is to us who love PSU and Paterno - that he was tried in the Media for something he had no hand in, that we are now well aware the NCAA scammed PSU, and the cruelty of the misinformed and rush to justice - broke the Spirit, persecuted and accelerated the death of a humble man who gave 60 years of his life to caring about Young men, their education and "Victory with Honor". I am only sorry you did not have the great honor and experience of attending PSU while Paterno graced our lives through his experiment.

Fuck people man. Just...fuck.

sums it up, gentlemen.

money talks; child rape walks.

Where in the fuck does these Paterno Apologists come from?

This actually seems like a pretty good explanation of the decision process.

Even if you believe Joe "did enough" (which, according to U.S. law, he did not) the administration obviously didn't do enough after Joe informed them. I cannot think of a single reason those wins should be reinstated.

They are lucky the program didn't receiver the death sentence. PSU supporters should shut the fuck up while they're ahead.

What is messed up is that at the time Paterno fulfilled State Law. The law is fucked up anyways because all it states is that "any state employee who learned about suspected child abuse was required to report the incident to his immediate supervisor." That obviously isn't fucking enough. How the fuck would you not call the police?

The other thing is the whole idea of University Police force that is managed by the University. A conflict of interest exists that effects a lot of things especially rape allegations that Universities try and keep hidden to protect their image.

The Freeh report did have complications in it, many of the e-mails it claims corroborate Paterno's involvement with a coverup are based on assumptions (which can be true of course)

If Paterno knew exactly what was going on and covered it up then fuck him. If he tried to "pass the buck" and ignore the issue because "He was too busy or too old" then fuck him too. Fuck McQueary for not doing the only common sense thing. I don't care if he followed the law by reporting it to his senior. If I was in the same situation I would have beat the fuck out of Sandusky and reported to the police exactly what happened. It boggles my mind that McQueary went home and did nothing.

Fuck Schultz and Curley. Oddly enough even though they are explicitly mentioned in the Freeh report as knowing what was going on, they never apologized, accepted blame in covering up what happened, or mentioned they could have done something more to protect victims. Paterno was the only one to say before his death that he should have done more.

Also fuck College Football. I wouldn't doubt that this cult of football would have led to a similar in any big ticket football University.

Fuck Sandusky most of all.

Some of the people here need to realize that not all the people that have gone to Penn State care about the football program or condone these disgusting actions. A large part of the University is Academic (as it should be). The science and medical labs there have done a lot of good things with many smart people working on innovative advances for mankind.

Still at the end of the day I can't feel bad for Penn State as an institution. They are a business who had leaders take concern of the wellbeing of their image and football/athletic department over the victims of abuse.

Where in the fuck does these Paterno Apologists come from?

Some people were talking about a moe fan in another thread about having "mental issues" for obsessing over an entertainment genre.

This...THIS RIGHT FUCKING HERE is a good example of people with mental issues. That whole school has full of people with mental issues with a whole NCAA organization with mental issues.

This is so annoying on so many levels. People in general just sicken me with asinine things like this.

Fuck you PSU, fuck you NCAA, and a big giant middle finger fuck you to the apologists for child rape. I feel so sick with this. -_-

As a Penn State student, it pretty shameful what the NCAA are doing. They are basically saying that what ever penalties are brought about, that in a couple years time they mean nothing.

Hot take alert

Honestly? Due to the vitriol that often accompanies sports, it's quite clear a large number of people, perhaps not a majority, but a large number just the same, have sports in an entirely too elevated position of priority, to the detriment of who knows what but certainly to the detriment of reasonable interpersonal discourse. And, in the case of Penn State officials, to the detriment of the protection of children.

I'm almost ready, almost, to suggest that all sports should be shut down for one complete season. No college football, no college basketball, no NBA, no NFL, no MLB, no anything. It's time to put things back in perspective.

If you're a sports fan defending Penn State's inexcusable inaction on this, you need to reassess life's priorities. In the same way, if you're a sports fan attacking other fans, or stalking athletes online and posting harrassing or threatening messages, you are just as much in need of getting your head straight.

It is absolutely ridiculous the way some treat sports and the outcome of games.

You are right but the reasons behind this is huge swaths of people lead miserable worthless lives and sports are literally the only thing they have going for them. This is more pronounced in rural areas where there is nothing going on.

Since the NCAA is effectively acknowledging they made a mistake by initially vacating wins and giving them bowl bans, Penn State alum should take class action against the NCAA for all of the stress and heartache the fans were put under these last 4 years. Penn State fans were victims.

I would outlaw public universities from using taxpayer money to fund sports that 0.001% of the students get to participate in, so the NCAA fucking up is fine with me, it just exposes how ridiculous this shit is.

Most, if not all, public universities do not use taxpayer money now. Athletic associations are private entities, and fund the sports.

EDIT: Penn State fanatics are good at identifying victims.

Unless they are looking at children who were raped.

This isn't true at all, actually. IIRC there's only a dozen or so athletics departments which are financially independent/self sustainable (Penn State is/was one). Most athletics departments receive various amounts of funding from the rest of the university.

haha! Good! I love chaos. NCAA fucked up so bad, but if the Sandusky/Penn State situation has taught me anything, it's 'overreact, and then backtrack later.' And never ever do anything halfway, lest it seem like you knew shit was fucked up and tried to hide it. All the way or ignore it.

P5 gonna leave the crooked NCAA soon enough, anyway. Leaving G5 in the dust.

State University Coaches are usually the highest paid state employees in each state.

There are many sports teams who do a tremendous amount of good.

It would be silly to punish teams who are doing good because of the teams that are doing bad.

Huh. I wasn't aware of that. I know that's a common misconception where I live, in that people constantly barrage the local universities with statements like "We should cut taxpayer funding." No such funding exists.

And looking around the Interwebs, it seems many of the top schools follow the same suit: No taxpayer money is used. But you're right -- I can't make a blanket statement like that.

State University Coaches are usually the highest paid state employees in each state.

Because their salaries are "augmented" by university foundations, athletic associations, etc. *In my experience working for a large university, the coach has a base salary from the state, just like the president of the university. But that's not all the money they make.

In light of this, and this is all so totally off-topic, I agree: It's obscene how much football coaches in general make at institutions that are supposed to educate and prepare people for professional life.

I'm just fucking fuming in rage. This is garbage, I hope all these fuckers burn in the deepest pits of hell.

The fact the Penn State even sued the NCAA in the first place given how light their penalty was is disgusting.

It's like a murderer getting off on a technicality and then suing the state for his legal fees level disgusting.

Of course. It was a hot take and not the least bit realistic. It's mostly just a cry in the dark for people to get their heads right.

I have every right to threaten Bill Buckner within an inch of his life damnit.

I get your overall point thought. However, you could use the same argument for anything. Video games even!

Seems like it worked out for them, though.

What makes me angrier is the more rabid fans can point to this as more evidence they were "victimized" or "persecuted."

The lawsuit that was settled was filed by a state senator, not the university. AFAIK the university itself never sued the NCAA. The reason he sued was because of the fine money being used outside of Pennsylvania. As part of the settlement, the NCAA agreed that it would all be spent inside Pennsylvania.

Edit: And its likely the NCAA only settled because they feared what else was going to come out in discovery.

I'm assuming that it was still filed on behalf of the university though. They could have easily told the senator "thanks but no thanks, we're good".

Good. Pretending a team didn't win is silly. Same goes for USC and Alabama. Punish them severely (death penalty, massive fines, revocation of scholarships) but don't try and re-write history.

This is coming from someone who doesn't like football in general and wishes that college would be purely about academics.
