Rumour: Diddy Kong Racing 2 became Excitebots; Monster Games working on DKR2 for WiiU

I would kill for It's Mr. Pants on 3DS eShop. Nintendo would be FOOLS to say no to Monster Games doing this. It is a port and a Rare IP, both things Nintendo has seemed okay with delegating to MG. FOOL PROOF LOGIC
Windows phone is now a thing so Rare might not be able to make portable stuff now.

Also I doubt GBA VC (you just had to open that can of worms...) would debut with It's Mr. Pants.

Here's the best DKR2 roster (with inspiration from Gonzo)

Diddy Kong
Dixie Kong
Cranky Kong
Donkey Kong
Wrinkly Kong
Funky Kong
Candy Kong
Tiny Kong
Lanky Kong
Chunky Kong
Donkey Kong Jr.
Stanley the Bugman
Krusha
King K. Rool
Kalypso (what can I say? I like her style bro)
Tiki Tong

Guests

Mallo (Pushmo)
Rusty (Rusy's Real Deal Baseball)
Mario (Super Mario Bros.)
Wario (Wario Land)
Takamaru (Mysterious Castle Murasame) - He'd fit the style like Link fit in Mario Kart
Barbara the Bat (Jam with the Band, etc.)
Primeape (Pokemon)
Bonkers (Kirby)
Isabelle (Animal Crossing)
Max (Advance Wars)
Chibi-Robo (Chibi-Robo)
Lip (Panel de Pon)

Uh, yep. This needs to happen. Can it just happen!?

If Nintendo really wanted to make DKR2, I really can't see them scrapping the whole thing just because they couldn't get back the rights to characters like TipTup and Timber.

Outside of Diddy, Conker and Banjo, does anyone give a shit about the cast of Diddy Kong Racing? They'd have just made the game with new characters.

Just don't see why Nintendo would need another game like that in their lineup. Much bigger fish to fry, much bigger gaps to fill.
Why not ? They could reuse al lot of assets from Tropical Freeze and Kart Racers have quite a lot of mass market appeal...

...and stranger revivals succeeded in the current market, Kid Icarus, Punch-Out! and edpecially Luigi's Mansion 2 sold pretty well.

It really is incredible what a success Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon was.

ETA: for the love of Pete, people, the best roster addition has been ethereally floating under our noses all along...Polterpup!!!

People always say this, but the first one sold 2 million as well, and the 3DS has sold a lot more units than the GCN.

I doubt DKR2 is a thing now that we know Monster games have been working on a xenoblade port.

Absolutely true, but for a launch title it did pretty poorly at the time for GCN. Especially in Japan, whereas IIRC Japan was much more interested in Dark Moon in comparison.

As a rebooted series 11 years after its initial launch, I think it did pretty darn well with 4 million sales WW!

Well yes 4million and counting we may as well call it a flagship game now. I absolutely loved luigis mansion 2, and felt it was a great fit for the handheld.

Lawyers from Microsoft and Nintendo. Sitting around a conference table in an office in Redmond. Negotiating the rights to fucking Timber, Pipsy, and Taj the Genie. And talks breakdown because Microsoft demands too much money. Just lol.

Is this true?

Edit: Doesn't surprise, Ms is too greedy, i mean they get more money for each android phone from Samsung and others than they do for their own doomed phones.

Sorry but with Mario Kart and Sonic already on the platform I can't help not seeing it as a waste of resources when they could be working on F-Zero UX.

I think what made Rare great is the fact that they were fiercley competitive within their company and with Nintendo. They thought they could outdo Nintendo's best and in some cases did. I want to see Nintendo's Western partners take on their biggest series again.

I don't think that is true at all. RARE and NCL as developers, were very different in mechanical approach and visual design. Taking the Nintendo 64 as an example, they developed different games, with two exceptions in Banjo-Kazooie and Diddy Kong Racing. Although I find both games vastly inferior in technical design, they certainly did feature better technology considering they were second generation games as opposed to launch software.

I would absolutely love another Diddy Kong Racing. Throw in Dixie, King K Rool and a bunch of forgotten characters and I'd be pretty happy.

Really though aside from the design of the game what I'd really love to see is the return of Winky, Zinger, Expresso and more! I know Retro wanted to do more with animal buddies but why didn't they?!

Ground vehicles would include - Rambi, Expresso, that mouton goat from Jungle Beat, Squitter and what ever else.

Water Vehicles to act as the hover craft would include - Winky, Engaurd and Orco that Killer Whale from Jungle Beat.

Flying vehicles would include Zinger(I know, but they were going to be used that way in Donkey Kong Racing for Gamecube), Squaks, and *sigh* Parry the Parallel Bird.

Seeing those older animal buddies back in action seems like it would spark more interest in the developers to bring them back in the main line DK series.

GC launch title, though.

Oh my goodness why do the five people that enjoyed Diddy Kong Racing keep spreading these dumb rumours.

I didn't even see the origin of MasterBalls' sheer ignorance. I never see replies for this for even obscure games, but because Mario Kart exists, no way they'd make a sequel right?

Yeah, wasn't the offer a full remake on XBLA and a bog-standard VC release on Wii?

From what I understand the deal was a Perfect Dark style remake for Xbox 360 and the original being released on Wii Virtual Console. The thing is I think MS was footing the bill for the remake so why would they give it to Nintendo for free? They were giving Nintendo the original classic which would have sold a shit ton on Wii and the Wii didn't even have the hardware ability to run a remake anyway. It was a pretty good deal for all parties involved.

Who besides Diddy can Nintendo use in a new Diddy Kong Racing game that appeared in the original DKR? DKR DS couldn't use Banjo and Conker, if I recall correctly.

Tiptup might also fall into the same territory, since he's shown up in the Banjo-Kazooie games. Otherwise, Nintendo has free reign on the others. Not that it particularly matters, since the rest of the cast is so damn generic.

I think the logic would be that Nintendo knows kart games with a great party mode sell.

And they know Sonic racing Transformed stole the Diddy Kong racing formula and sold well.

There appears to be no Sonic Transformed sequel and there's a market for it, and Nintendo have the original IP in the genre.

Plus they have Tropical Freeze assets and will probably think they can do a better job and sell 2 million copies of Diddy Kong Racing 2....and that's before it hits handhelds. Where they'll do a good job at releasing it.

Tiptup would definitely fall into that territory. Rare had plans to use him in "The Fast and The Furriest" before Microsoft shut that idea down.

From what I understand, Rare owns all the characters in Diddy Kong Racing that are not Diddy, Dixie, Tiny and Krunch.
