That's the thing, they both draw huge crowds. Melee's popularity is the result of over a decade of maturing, while Smash 4's community has only started in 2 months.

Besides, EVO has always taken the new version of games.

I hope Persona 4 Arena and Smash 4 make it, but history shows that probably won't happen. I also hope we can get some new fighting game franchises not made by the same few companies so we can see some diversity when it comes to these tournaments.

Agreed. There's enough of a split that I could see both making it. But I think the most likely scenario is that Evo decides to try just rolling with Smash 4 for now.

I can't see Smash 4 and Melee being there. It will probably just be Smash 4 (unfortunately, IMO).

Also want to watch a lot of Evo this year, I want to pick up a non-Smash 2D fighter but I have no idea which. Preferably on PC, which will limit the options anyway.

I can't see Smash 4 and Melee being there. It will probably just be Smash 4 (unfortunately, IMO).

It's just my personal list of what I want for the most part plus some reasonable bets. I know it's unlikely for both Smash games to be there but I also find it hard to believe EVO could ignore Melee when it's clearly still growing, would still draw in different players than Smash 4, and just... numbers all around. And from a business perspective, it's only logical to include Melee.

As unlikely as it is, I'm hoping for it.

It's not when the community is the one that brought 40+ CRTs last year via a truck. EVO staff did nothing on their end for that. And said CRT vault still exists and would still be usable this year. The only issue with Melee last year was getting enough Gamecubes/Wiis and copies of the game.
