New Xenoblade Chronicles X trailer

I'm starting to think that this game has less of a focus on story compared to the first game, and I think the silent protagonist solidifies that theory.

The first game had a pretty basic story
until the ending
, but at least it was still notable. The premise of this game just seems to be getting used to a new homeland.

It looks like they want to focus more on exploration.

There is going to be a lot to the story, it's not going to be about surviving on an alien world. For example, why did those two alien species start a war outside of Earth? It couldn't have been just for the planet because then why follow the escapees two years through space just so they can completely kill them off? It has a Battlestar Galactica feel going. So why do these aliens want humans seemingly extinct?

We have seen so many different races so far, some friendly with humans apparently. Who are they and were they natives to the planet? Are they on the run from the killing alien species too? Were there any other survivors that made it from Earth?

And you know there are going to be so many twists along the way.

My biggest concern is that the English dub might be very bad...
I have to admit I definitely will miss the British VA. They were charming. But of course you couldn't have British VA in "New Los Angeles"

Just hope they don't go with the usual Troy Baker/JYB/YuriL/SteveBlum/etc. crowd. I am so tired of them.

Takahashi said X has a much larger script than the original Xenoblade, so I think it's more likely that they just don't want to give many details about the story before release.

That makes a lot of sense. It's just even weirder that they would go to a silent protagonist then.

This again? There is absolutely nothing indicating that. Starting with this being a Takahashi game and there being lots and lots of stuff we don't know about but have seen glimpses off that will obviously be dealt with. Silent protagonist just means the story isn't about your player character being someone specific.

Btw, we have now officially been over all the steps of the Xenoblade discussion cycle. "This looks like Monster hunter!" + "Ugh, MMO combat!" + "Less story!" + "Ugh Sawano!" ...

I didn't know it was such a touchy subject...

Ah ok, makes a lot of sense then. Guess I was making judgments too early.

I'm not sure why the player character necessarily has to be the main protagonist, when there are going to be plenty of party members that can take up that role. I have no problem with my character taking a backseat compared to the rest of the party as long as they are interesting...

Yeah I mean I don't think even the reason why the team is out there is just to explore. There is likely a reason to travel around the planet. They probably picked up on some kind of signal and want to figure out who is sending it, something like that. We already know they are on the lookout for pods from other survivors. Or maybe they need a specific resource and send out scouting groups. I trust the creators to make an interesting story, I found the story of Xenoblade very interesting after all.

i'll just blindly hope that nla is populated by british people, because it's the city they build on the remains of london after it was destroyed by one of the alien races or something

wasn't the reason to explore to find the scattered people who 'fell off' nla during the crash?

edit: hard reading comprehension fail...

Here's an interesting thought. Why is it that you (the main), of all people are put into this group and set out on a journey? You have a soldier and the creator of the dolls there. They seem important. You on the other hand, just woke up from a pod. There has to be something special about the main character. A reason they are sent out on an important mission. I would think so anyway. The Nopon is probably placed in the group since they are familiar with the land and will act as a scout.

Edit for above: That seems to be what Elma was doing, apparently by herself. That doesn't mean that has to be this newly formed group's mission.

My guess is that you'll join the group because Elma is impressed by your ability to handle yourself in combat on that first trek to town, and the story will also likely start off as a "look around for survivors" before it gets into the deeper stuff. The player character will have some sort of twist I'm sure, but again that doesn't mean you are the main character...

I'm pretty sure "you" are not the main character.

That's true. It's possible you won't be the main character at all. Given that Elma will likely act as the leader of the group giving her position. Though that could change as the story progresses.

The whole time I've just assumed the player character will be a kind of "doll", or artificially created avatar in the story. He just woke up, because that was the beginning of his existence.

Interesting. It's possible they are trying to hide this from them I suppose. Say they planted them in the wild and then tell them the story so that they believe it for whatever reason. I could see the story going that way in some kind of twist.

Maybe because you proved yourself in battle on your way back to the colony, which is the exact thing we see happen in the E3 Treehouse footage. Elma rescues you from your hibernation in the escape pod, then you fight your way back to Neo LA and you prove yourself a valuable fighters which comes in handy since they probably could use some more after the crash. Seems very straightforward without any type of "chosen one" scenario being necessary.

^ah, see ...same idea ;)

If you just accidentally spoiled the twist without knowing it I will come and slap you in a few months :D

Main Character (silent protagonist) have BLADE system inside

Beyond the Logos Artficial Destiny Emancipator (BLADE)
mean
- can overcome destiny
- can overcome God's will

I guess that's the comcept of Xenoblade X

The Lead Game Designer for FFXV has high praise for Xenoblade Chronicles X. Good to see some people speaking out on it.

Saw that as well. Great to see. Both games look amazing and that's saying something after how much Square Enix has screwed around with the Final Fantasy franchise in recent years. No reason one has to hate on one game if you like the other. Both look amazing. No caveats to that either. FFXV is perhaps THE game that will finally get me to purchase and keep a PS4 once it releases if nothing else pushes me in that direction first. So I'm hoping it's an extremely well done game that has a lot of content in it.

So is it confirmed that this game will have online or not ?

Remember the chatoxes etc from the first trailer hinted at such but recent trailer its missing

"online" was confirmed officially months ago. Though nobody has any clue what "online" means specifically.

Someone should make a thread about this, to see how long it takes to devolve into a fanboy war.

Is the same guy that did the music for xenoblade wii doing the music for this one? The OST for that game is insanely good

No, XCX has a completely different composer.

Xenoblade Chronicles had JRPG vets such as Yoko Shimomura, Yasunori Mitsuda, and ACE+

XCX has Sawano of anime composition fame.

New characters updates.

Sweet, can't wait for the translations! Take your time Streets, there's no rush.

Also, Irina has a scene in the E3 2014 story trailer that's reminds me of (Warning, Xenoblade spoilers)
Fiora's death scene
in Xenoblade. This scene here at 1:26. It's only a split second but it's pretty much the first thing I thought of when I saw it.

God I hope no one saw that before my split second edit, forgot to put the spoiler tag and bolded it by accident, lol

Edit: HOLY CRAP mustache dude's name is VAN DAMME!!

I'm going to miss the British voice acting. They're probably going to do a North American localisation now that this is coming out worldwide.

The more likely reason for American English is that unlike Xenoblade's fictional nations, these are actual Americans who migrated to space in the sequel.

Still, I agree that the British acting was great (apart from fucking Riki, played with JP voices simply because of him).

I want to smack the heads of the people who made this decision!!!!!
Well... You would probably be smashing the head of the same guy who gives us the story and world of Xenoblade and XCX. Takahashi apparently handpicked Sawano himself.

(I wanna smack the person in charge of the battle system though)

New characters updates.
Where are our Japanese speakers?

duckroll pls.

On a side note, "You will know our names" has to be one of the coolest names for a song ever.

Van Damme? lol.

Tell us their voice actors please. Also do you think they'll be party members?

Apparently Van Damme is voiced by Tessho Genda (Xord in Xenoblade)

He is also Kratos in Japan.

And the chick is... Natsumi Takamori? I could be wrong here, sorry.

If it is her, then she did some anime stuff, I don't any though, so look her up.

EDIT: Someone corrected me on the other thread, it's not Natsumi Takamori, it's Nao Takamori.

So, should i do it? only need one yes.
I think mods close threads that become XCX vs FFXV.

They closed two already if I'm not mistaken.

Don't bother.

Yep. Fuck silent protagonists. Hearing this really hurts my hype for this game.

Agreed! My hype went from "watching e3 2013 trailer once a week" to "I don't care that much anymore".

I don't think that we will have a dub for each sex and probably no romance like
Shulk X Fiora
in Xenoblade.
