New Xenoblade Chronicles X trailer

Some of the graphics look great, especially the mechas. Some look rough but its the Wii U its par for the course.

Game looks cool though. Will have to find some way to play it or maybe just watch it :/
Just watch it like im deciding to do. You'll feel like youve played it so you can criticize it all you want. Not giving Nintendo any of my money nor giving them the pleasure of putting the disc in my console even if it is used.

aw customizable characters?! thats lame, games where you make your character always make you irrelevant. you're just... there.

I didn't feel that way in Skyrim, South Park, or the recent Dragon Age. If you end up being an important part of the story then it works. Sure the main starts out as just regular survivor from a pod but you know there is ultimately going to be something special about you. Like your destiny can't be read or some such.

Does the main character speaks? I really hope so, because shulk was really expressive.

While you can chose your characters voice on the avatar select screen, I don't think it's going to be voiced in the same way as Shulk was. Probably more like how Fire Emblem Awakening handled the MC's voice.

I don't really have any problems with the player character being a seemingly generic mute, but then again, I wasn't a big fan of Shulk in the first game. He could have been easily replaced with any other kind of character and no one would have missed him.

Anyway, I'd want to make a female character in Xenoblade X.

The marketing machine will kick in very soon and we will be treated with more footage

Hopefully some more information on online features

With the 3DS version of the first game and the Japanese release of this both hitting in April, I'm sure we'll get a combined direct for both games by March, and probably a lot more details in magazines and other places as the launch gets closer. It should be a lot of fun.

I am legitimately intimidated by the scale of this game. Can't wait to get a Wii U for it. Looks amazing.

After playing the first Xenoblade, I look at other JRPG developers and it just seems like none of them are really trying anymore.

I'm conflicted on this since your starting group seems to be two females and the main. Usually I roll female though. Hmm. Nothing wrong with three females in a group mind you but I like variety the same way I wouldn't want an all male group.

If it's anything like the first one, I'll settle on whoever has the least annoying battle barks (Reyn went bye ASAP). I hope they can be disabled this time around.

That and Lynlee are so far my biggest gripes with this. Two unwelcome changes from the original.

Shulk was a nice and likable protagonist. So to go from him to a complete blank slate is very disappointing.

I'm sorry, but the examples of blank slate characters (like in Skyrim or Dragon Age) have always been lackluster in terms of narrative and story.

Gonna go build a harem party.

I use wii remote and nunchuck to play Xenoblade, so I have no idea how do you move and switch between arts at the same time with CCP.

Thumbs on the analog sticks, index fingers on the D-Pad and ABXY buttons ;-) (On the WiiU Pro Controller I do the reverse for some games.)

Is the Wii Classic Controller Pro supported by any Wii U games?

I have the Wii U Pro Controller, but I just like the CC Pro (Wii) better. I feel like the D-pad is inset too far on the Wii U controller. I played Xenoblade Chronicles in its entirety on the CC Pro, and I want to use it again for this game. Sorry if this has been asked.

Is this game in any way related to any previous Xeno game narratively?

Nope, not connected through plot with Xenoblade either, although it will have it's mechanics and some familiar elements.

It will probably have similar themes from the other Xeno games though.

Well there's always the possibility....

That this world that they crash on is the "New World" created at the end of Xenoblade.

That seems like a similar plot point to something that would have happened in Xenogears/Saga anyway.

It reminded me immediately of the crash landing of the Eldridge in the opening scene of Xenogears.

Not that it's connected narratively, just a similar plot device I guess.

It's supported though not every game supports it. Unless XBX makes extensive use of the clicky sticks i'd be surprised if it wasn't.

And during the combined direct is when they'll announce Xenoblade digital download for Wii U

it beats playing as a generic white guy character. I love it when a game lets you make your own main character.

Gross. I'll play as a "generic white guy" forever if it means my character is a character, not some mute.

I'm still kinda bummed by that, but I guess I'll get over it. :P

By a lot of them, yea. But don't expect it to be supported here since you can see "click right stick" is mapped to a thing in one of the new screenshots.

I agree with this fully. Well semi fully. In a story heavy jrpg style game I would always prefer a set character that you can actually have the story made around, not someone who will turn out to be a side character/not really relevant to the overall story because of not being set. Sure, there are exceptions but not a ton of them turning out well. This has been and will continue to be my biggest fear for this game, and only thing that I've had doubts with. Hope they are able to make it work out well.

Yep. Fuck silent protagonists. Hearing this really hurts my hype for this game.

That's my complaint. Not that the main is a custom, but silent. Wish they would go the Dragon Age Inquisition way and voice a male and a female character so the character still has a voice regardless of customization.

But considering that so far in what we have seen the main is silent, I'm guessing they elected not to go that route.

I'm still excited regardless, just a preference. I mean Skyrim and Fallout 3 are two of my favorite games ever and they were both silent mains so I'll deal.

Honestly I go the other way on that. It isn't that the character is silent, there are a ton of silent protags in jrpgs that the games worked well with. It is that the character is completely customizable. In the Bioware/Bethesda games you mentioned that isn't a big problem since they have story options and for all the choices you have. As much as I like that kind of game I don't think that that is going to be the case here, and I really prefer set character stories more anyway. I would just prefer a well written story around one set lead over an okay story around a character you customize with different options in the story depending on what you made. Well for this type of game anyway.

So basically what I'm saying is that I would rather they didn't go the Dragon Age/Elder Scrolls route. That would be better then a completely silent/non relevant to the story customizable character, but worse then a silent non customizable character that fits completely into the overall story. For me at least.

I don't like imposed voice much when it's the same voice for all races.
That's just break the immersion, example : you're a rogue but you talk like a noble because of voice actore. (lol)
Lot of people disliked voiced MC in DA 2 because it was too snarky and I agree, I never portrayed my hawk like that too.

So I rather prefer have a silent MC rather than have to choose a voice that doesn't fit my character at all.

Have I already said stuff about disliking the character icons during battle?

They're pretty small and don't allow for changed in facial expressions.

Both valid arguments.

I guess the lesson here is that they were never going to please everybody regardless of how they handled it.

I'm also not a big fan of customizable main characters, they always feel somewhat dislodged from the story imo.

I think i'll just end up trying to "mimic" one of the Xenoblade characters and give it its original name. Might go with Reyn.

I'm starting to think that this game has less of a focus on story compared to the first game, and I think the silent protagonist solidifies that theory.

The first game had a pretty basic story
until the ending
, but at least it was still notable. The premise of this game just seems to be getting used to a new homeland.

It looks like they want to focus more on exploration.

Takahashi said X has a much larger script than the original Xenoblade, so I think it's more likely that they just don't want to give many details about the story before release.

This again? There is absolutely nothing indicating that. Starting with this being a Takahashi game and there being lots and lots of stuff we don't know about but have seen glimpses off that will obviously be dealt with. Silent protagonist just means the story isn't about your player character being someone specific.

Btw, we have now officially been over all the steps of the Xenoblade discussion cycle. "This looks like Monster hunter!" + "Ugh, MMO combat!" + "Less story!" + "Ugh Sawano!" ...
