Alien: Isolation passes 1 million units sold

Just finished the game and liked it alot, but it seems they didn't know when to quit because it's entirely too long. Probably won't touch the other DLC and game modes for 4-5 months due to burn out.

Such a shame it hasn't sold more. Freaking damn games media and all their negative scores definitely had an impact. I saw plenty of "Oh, it scored badly at such and such website, therefore it's not going to be good like Colonial Marines".

My favorite developers are the ones that are happy with 1 million sales. If you need 5 million just to break even you're doing it wrong IMO

Awesome, great game,a little hard and frustrating at times but its the kind of game thats so good, even though you rage quit, you are back the next day lol...lets hope that makes it a go for a sequel, with a little more variety.

Good for Creative Assembly, I'm yet to play the game but everyone of my friends is praising it like there is no tomorrow, and anyway it is cool to see Survival Horror still kicking (somewhat).
Well, they started in May 2011, had a peak team size of 100, and had their margin diluted by the licensing fee.

I wouldn't be surprising if they lost money overall, especially given the likely average selling point, but they might consider this good enough for trying a second time.
When you put it that way, oh well hopefully somehow they managed to make a success out of it.

Not necessarily...all dependent on their budget and outlook for the game. Even with the Alien name, it's a hardcore horror game...not exactly a mainstream genre.
Not just that. But also a first person NON shooter hardcore horror slow paced game where you play as *gasp* a woman!

Happy to see games like these doing well. It dared to do off the beaten path and it shows that, when done well, mediocre review scores mean little.

Happy for these guys. We need more games like these and less Colonial Marines.

Well , i hope this game has legs .and that it continues to sells based on word of mouth/fame ..too bad the franchise has tested the heart of his fans so much in the last years.

Pretty sure that was sarcasm.

Hope so, christ

I played it at release for the PC, and other than the 30fps cutscenes, it ran like a dream with no issues throughout the campaign and the DLC.
Same. I've played this on three different systems (gotta love cloud saves) and I've never encountered any issues.

Those cutscenes sure were weird – but yeah, it ran fine, what the heck is that guy smoking

I sadly don't think the budget was low and selling only a millions copies spread between five platforms is sadly a failure.

Aliens is actually a pretty good game. A little long for my liking with some pacing issues, but I still would recommend people buying it.

One million pants shat.
Glad that Alien Isolation and The Evil Within both sold so well. Played them back to back. It was incredible.
Hah, me too. With a bit of REmake HD in between.

This game was absolutely stunning in VR. I say that in every single Alien Isolation thread because it was extremely compelling. I wish I could bring this around to people to try, it's incredible.

Nice to see a triple A game with little fighting and shooting sell nice. Just bought the game and personally I am not really enjoying it which sucks because I was really looking forward to savoring it. Still it is nice to see something off kilter for big budget games do well.

What do you not like?
Atmosphere. Graphics. Tension. All top notch.

Remember the first few hours are slow as Shit.

I expect this example will be used whenever discussions of "games with female protagonists don't sell" take place.

Man, so you're telling me that a brand that was tarnished after its last game, stars a female protagonist and doesn't focus on combat sold more than a million freaking units?!

I'm so happy! Seriously, if there was one game I wanted this for, it was this. Totally want a sequel with the same production values. The guys and gals at CA are amazing.

I recently watched Alien, Aliens and Alien 3. Alien is my favorite of these, as it is so tense, and the atmosphere is fucking amazing.

Ordered Alien: Isolation (Ripley Edition for dat Nostromo stuff) for PS4 yesterday, can't wait till it arrives. Anything I should know before I dive in?

Seems a bit low but I'm very happy they seem to be pleased with this number. It's a great game and it deserves every bit of it.

Again, I'm sure they knew it was an uphill battle after CM. So they likely knew that it would Isolation would take a hit in sales because of its predecessor. The fact that it sold over a million and got so much praise is a big win I'm sure. They literally turned the brand around from worst game of 2013 to GOTY contender in 2014.

That's pretty great.

It starts very, very slow. Keep playing until you get to the alien, it's breakneck after that.

Trust me, I know the opening is very slow. Slog through it. It's structured sort of like a movie with slow build up.

This is kind of what I loved when i watched Alien, so I'm pretty optimistic about that! :)

Well, the opening is filled with generic enemies which are very unlike the alien. Those parts are boring to me, those parts just feel very different from the rest of the game. THose early parts are more about navigating around static enemies without being seen. The alien portion is a huge cat and mouse game. Much more exciting.

Thats why I say keep with it until the alien shows up. Even though the hiding mechanics are the same, it's exhilarating and works great with the alien, where they are honestly boring with the normal enemies.

Being hunted by the alien is one of the best experiences I had last year across any game. I actually got disappointed that you gain weapons later in the game.

Well deserved sales, hopefully CA will get the chance to work on a sequel, game is awesome and very true to the source material, i have bought the game twice (ps4 and PC), so i did my part :-)

I'm waiting for this to drop a bit on PS4 before buying it, considering I passed on the Black Friday sales. But I really want to play it.

Play on Hard in the dark.

Play with headphones or surround. Sound/music design is incredible.

While in LEAN mode, enemies can't see you [if your body is hidden].

NEVER RUN if Alien in near. Heck, run only if you are certain you are totally alone or you are certain you can escape into safety.

If you hear him up in the vents, he will often not come down for entire levels if you are not noisy [running, hitting stuff, firing gun]. Once he jumps down, he's there to stay.

Also, even on Hard if Xeno is not near you you can stand up and walk. This speeds up the game a lot. Keep notice of all hiding places for quick getaway [tables/hospital gurneys are great for ducking under], although when you get flamethrower you can easily make Xeno run.

When you craft max number of items the game allows, you can still commit resources into next "uncraftable" item. This frees up you inventory so that you can pick up more crafting materials from the station.

Wear headphones.

Will do!

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind!

I bought it last week, but need to finish a couple of current games before I start it. Hope it's made profit for Sega and CA, although honestly I doubt it has. I expect Colonial Marines damaged the brand in the video game sector, and thus Isolation sold lower than expected. But I hope there's enough goodwill and momentum for CA to get the chance to make another, or at least do something else unrelated to Total War.

A game in a niche genre (survival horror) after a highly publicized flop from the same IP isn't that bad at 1 million. Sure, money spent is quite likely on the high side, but it served its purpose at getting that tarnish off the brand.

Even having a 'run' button at all is such a masterful troll by CA. :p

It's amazing- even though my mind knew damn well not to run, there were moments I would simply panic & hit that damn button. Dead meat. Every. Time.

Love this game.

Love this game.

It has its uses. It helps getting around areas you know are empty.

Also, if you ever get into combat with an Android, you can "kite" them fairly easily by running back and shooting them with the revolver until they die.

I've no idea if this is a good number or not for Creative Assembly. I just hope it sells more as it's a fantastic game. Probably my GOTY last year.

I still have to pick this up, but somehow I already have a backlog this gen and I cant justify buying another horror game I wont beat(looking at you outlast).

But glad it sold at least a million and hopefully that's good enough to justify a sequel or more games like this. Unfortunately, I think CM tainted it before launch. Such a shame it's probably unconsciously attached to it. I don't even remember seeing any commercials for this either.

Yep, playing the game with proper surround sound (5.1 etc) in the dark is fantastic, the sound design really does deserve the proper speaker placement.

Its nice to see they've hit a million and are happy about it, but man does the game deserve more sales than that - a great game and easily my GOTY by a land slide.
