#DEFLATEGATE: Goodell never had any balls

The bigger story is that the league has not contacted Brady yet. Goodell promised he would be more thorough in his investigations but it's clear the NFL still has no idea what it's doing.

Goodell has recently had it verified that he can handwave any inadequate investigation by saying "OOPS LOL! We forgot to ask!" so I would doubt he ever makes a request for anything as part of an investigation again.

Goodell is just scared to do anything before the Super Bowl, so he will drag the investigation on and then hand out punishment until after. He's spineless.

He hates Belicheck though, so he may love to stick his hands in the cookie jar here. .

I can see Brady and Belichick in a life raft.
Brady, " I'm just going to let a little air out".
Belichick, "Sit your ass down and shut up".

Yup. If there was no ball scandal, Goodell will be grilled about domestic violence in the NFL by mainstream media leading up to the big game. In many ways this must be a relief for him.

Uh huh I'm sure he hates one of the best coaches in league history. I bet he really hates how much revenue Belichick has helped generate for the league through these past 15 years.

Tom Brady asked if he's a cheater: "I don't believe so. I believe I've always played within the rules."

His choice of words are just remarkable Lol.

Its very good politics. You can't say yes obviously. If you say no, then you burn the opinions of those around you that are contrary to that. If you say it the way he said it, you get people off your back.

You're right, Belichick got more Giants merchandise purchased than any other individual in the league.

Wow your trolling has always been pretty hit or miss but that might be your biggest miss ever.

you're right...

because all the patriots superbowl gear from their last two superbowls are given away to the needy for free. kind of evens out. you're absolutely right.

I wish I had time to search for links, but yeah, he doesn't get Xmas cards from the Commish, lol

The media is covering this far more than Ray Rice.

Not really. First Ray Rice incident maybe. Also a bigger deal for the media because it's in the lead up to the super bowl which is usually a slow news week.

Within the NFL offices I think they know this isn't that big of an issue. It'll blow over.

He also mentioned ISIS. Brady got run over by his coach and had a breakdown.

I have a hard time believing the organization would be that disheveled. Seems like all those guys are on the script.

They're normally inflated to 13-15psi. It's a lot.

Depends on what the starting point is. If they did 12.5 to only reach the bare minimum any drop at all is a violation of rules whether intended or not.

I still think it's weird no NFL player has gone mad over this. All seem to either not care or seem to think it isn't that much. The only people hyping it up are people like ESPN etc who want the hits. It is still making me think this stuff goes on a lot.

All of this still and the NFL hasn't said anything. I think its because they don't know how to say anything because the rule is something they really didn't care about. If you inflate a ball to the minimum spec, then play the game in a cold environment, then the pressure of the ball is going to decrease. If it decreases by 0.1 it is still below the minimum. How much below the minimum is ok then?

Ding ding, ding it's become the next biggest thing and the media wants it to become the new spygate..

The players? Well, this is one can they don't want opened because either they all do it, or they know it doesn't matter, look at Brady's numbers in the second half compared to the first...

I don't think the NFL has any evidence that the Pats did it intentionally. I bet the investigation is taking so long because they can't prove it, or aren't trying to (they haven't spoken with Brady yet??).

Man, those Pats are pulling some Jedi Mind Tricks. I really think they're going to get off with a slap on the wrist type fine or Scott free even.

Villains of the Forever! :D

Marvel needs to do an NFL crossover. Dr Doom, King Pin, and the New England Patriots join forces to fight justice.

Yeah from the player comments and past instances of similar behavior...

Sounds like a fairly common cat and mouse game the refs play with the QB's and their equipment managers.

I'm unsure if that makes it less "wrong" to purposefully circumvent a clear rule that even has a fine already laid out in the rule book for it though. If your QB likes the ball out of the range, it seems like the better solution would be to lobby the league to change the PSI limits.. especially if nobody seems to think it's much of an advantage and is more of a preference.

But who REALLY cares so much to generate this much publicity?

Who cares? Seriously. People are nuts. Death threats have no doubt gone out over this crap. Quite pathetic.
A quarterback and a receiver can wear these types of gloves that basically make it feel like you have tape for hands. And we piss ourselves because balls are underflated?

It just a bunch of guys throwing around a ball. Have you ever been to a game? Its just dudes throwing a ball. Sometimes they run, sometimes they kick it. Its not that serious.

It would not be being talked about so much if no one cared. The NFL Playoffs is the most watched thing on American television. Of course, people want rules to be followed and enforced in sports.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the balls were checked and ok'd prior to the game. It wasn't until halfway through that they were below regulation psi. So....Brady altered the game balls during halftime? Left the sidelines and altered pressure?

I don't buy it. Not only does this seem "beneath" him, but it seemed like he was trying not to burst out laughing during the press conference.
