This is the crux of the issue, I feel. It's almost like the portrayal of women in a lot of Japanese pop culture these days is at an all-time low because that mindset/culture is more prevalent than ever, as well. (Or maybe that's just my imagination). I'm not saying it shouldn't exist at all, but that it's unnecessary in a lot of cases.

Yeah, it's really silly most of the times. But it's okay (imo) if it's limited to certain VNs and the like.
