Project Scissors: NightCry (Clock Tower Spiritual Successor) PC Kickstarter ($300k)

That's a fairly all-star lineup for something that's only asking for 300K. I guess the question is, how many people want an old school Japanese horror game these days.

Hopefully it reaches its goal and then some.

If Modbot could be reprogrammed to make people forceable donate 1 cent every time someone complains about Japanese devs announcing a game for phones, or the death of survival horror it would be funded overnight! :P

This isn't looking too good in terms of funding. If you want to raise 300k for a game these days on KS you should probably do at last 50k in the first 24 hours.

I hope it gets some more coverage.

In the KS, they mention they ship internationally but I am in Malaysia.
How much will they charge? $35?
I am planning to pledge $120 but if it doesn't include shipping, I will be waiting for this game to be released in PS4..

It looked like it was $15 to most countries, but I didn't check what it was for Malaysia.

It looks rough or like a medium budget PS2 game, in any case it could be interesting so i'll wait for it.

At the launch of the KS we were all together, watching the campaign go live and watching intently.

I think Toda-san and Yamane-san blushed when they noticed people were backing just for the music.

I'm a bit surprised you had Yamane there... That seemed like the kind of team member reveal to share later in the campaign, for a new publicity boost. I also hope you're planning console versions as stretch goals, for further publicity.

$3,000 +

Sketch!

You will receive the signed Collector's Edition ($200) AND an original sketch from Masahiro Ito! Requests are allowed, but requests for a certain geometrically-shaped man from a famous game series will be refused.

Hee

A fair point! We've still got plenty up our sleeves. :)

I'm IN.

By the way... I already backed it and I know it's better to think it'll succeed (I hope that sooo much)... but in worst case... Can't we have the mobile version coming to PC/Steam ?

Even if possible probably not in their interest to answer that yet since many would just say "good enough" and not bother backing it.

Yes, I guess so. But that would be really sad :/
In any case, I backed it and I can't wait to play it.
I totally loved CT on SNES and the sequel on PSX.

Full Short Film

I put in a pledge. I'm hoping it gets funded. I'd love to see the originals get re-released onto a digital format for everyone.

A message from Shinji Mikami on their KS page:

"Hifumi Kono is not only one of the great game creators in Japan— he is also a dear friend and colleague.

Our earliest collaboration was Steel Battalion, which I produced and Kono-san created and directed. That experience confirmed for me that he is an artist, an innovator and an all-around responsible guy.

I congratulate and support Kono-san on his return to the horror game genre, which we both love and enjoy creating.

Please join me in supporting this project!"

Yeah, this was launched at a horrible time (middle of the night on the weekend in the US). Really bad planning on their part since the first day is so important to success.
It'll be awful to see Playism's sophomore Kickstarter project fall dead and leave this game on mobile for...who knows, forever? Bad timing can really fuck up your crowdfunding, and I fear this failure to bring Project Scissors to PC will discourage Japanese developers from trying crowdfunding for the platform in the future. I'm backing this for the Early Bird right now.

I backed it despite the fact I don't pay more than 10 bucks for games now days (College student here so saving for studies)

In for 18 bucks

To be fair though they started on a weekend and during PAX South. Hopefully next week everyone informs their readers about this.

I don't think that the timing has a lot to do with the slow funding, to be honest. The simple truth is that next to no one has ever heard of the Clock Tower series outside of Japan and even fewer have played a game of the franchise. And judged on its own, Scissors just doesn't look very appealing on first sight.

Hnngh, all of that talent! I've never backed a Kickstarter before, but I may change my tune for this one. It looks great, and I have no doubt they'll polish the game up.

CT isn't really that popular, especially nowdays, and it doesn't help that the best episode is basically unplayed by the majority and the most famous episode (3) is pretty baaaad.

Should have brought in some famous people like, dunno, Mikami? If anything just for the name.

Definitely backing this when I get my paycheck. Crossing my fingers so hard, will see what I can do to pull some attention to this, but this unfortunately I think will be a close race, due to Kickstarter being a bit slower these days and bringing attention to it.

The heroine looks really phenomenal. A woman with a mouth on her eh? Cannot wait to see what her deal is all about. But usually while I love heels on female protags (All about Ada Wong basically)...If I was in her situation, I'd be barefoot faster than you can say "Some motherfucker with giant scissors is chasing me all around trying to kill me".

Very seriously thinking about making a separate topic for the live-action short film, as we had a topic about the teaser for it, it is kind of its own thing and might get sweeped under everything here, plus want more people to notice NightCry. Anyone here think that'd be a good/dumb idea?

I've put in $18 for the Early Bird tier, I think it's starting a little slow because of things like PAX and Magfest going on. Hopefully the game will be released on GOG along with Steam.

Might be better to make a thread for the short in OT. You could promote the Ju-on link to potentially get some new eyes on the game.
